When I think of a startup, I think of a Sass company. Not a call center. What do you think?

this would be all about the script writing. solid sales making script one after the other for clients.. that would be the equivalent of internet growth hacking!

Short answer: Yes, you can. It will just be harder to collect the data you need.

    Long answer:
The term growth hacker was invented because too many traditional marketer applied for that positions and lacked some analytical skills. Although not completely correct, it could help to think of "data-driven marketing". And don't forget that marketing is not only selling but also positioning, product development etc.
While I don't think this is the "definitive" guide, this is a good starting point:
The (not so) definitive Guide to Growth Hacking.
SaaS products make it easy to collect the data, so they are just ideal for growth hacking, but it is not exclusive to them.

Growth Hacking a call center would be defined as getting B2B clients, your call center would work for. So, in essence, most call centers work for 3-4 companies so I don't know if growth hacking would be the best term as you'd only need those 3-4 clients to have a fairly profitable business.

Unless you planned on creating a company that could directly compete with something like Salesforce.com
