A list of things to do right after you publish your blog post

HEllo folks,
I am looking for some advice on what one must do right after publishing a blog post to spread the post and get traffic.

The site is a general news and entertainment site for young professionals.

Currently, after I publish a story, I post the story on our Facebook page, Twitter, and Google Plus.

We tried pinterest for a few weeks but it had absolutely no impact on traffic -- maybe its because of the nature of site content that doesnt align with pinterest.

Where else shall we post?

Any suggestions would be helpful. Or if you could point me to a link, something like "a checklist of steps after you publish a blog post"

thanks

First thing you need do is sharing your post on social media. If you have social profiles with good amount of followers, definitely you will gain good amount of visitors. But it depends on your strategies.

Twitter, Facebook, StumbleUpon, G+, Pinterest are good.

Guest blogging is another great way to get more exposure.

Press releases still work to some extent.

Also: You could tweet some gurus and say "Hey @randomguru, thank you for inspiring this blog post: "

They might retweet if you are lucky.

Stumbleupon is a great place you can start distributing your content too, may be you can create your own thread on reddit? don't know how viable that is for you though

posting on Reddit varies. If your page is an authoritate news site then they wouldnt mind.
but if you're just a blog starting out and you're posting with the same account, people may suspect you of being part of that sub reddit for the purpose of advertising. (it's fine if you are a regular posting on other topics)

Make a You Tube video about your blog post. Put a link in the description box under your video for traffic to your blog. You'll get search engine traffic too as Google owns YT so it likes your videos.

You can also add the video to your blog post as people have different learning styles. Some love to read though others love video content to take in information.

Videos are great for branding & know, like & trust.

      Cheers

I think it's always great to share your post on social media after you post it, but I think it is important to focus on the best place to share it. Find out where your audience hangs out, and post there. But not only post, really take time to evaluate the title, preview image, and description of your post.

For instance, the photography community hangs out on Reddit a lot, the fashion people frequent pinterest, internet marketers love Twitter. Find out the favorite hangout of your audience and start there

I just created something specifically for this. I've yet to test it out, but will in the next 3 months. It's called: "Speed Racer Blog Traffic Checklist" which is pretty much everything I do to promote an epic post. **attached** I'm new to the forum so not sure this will attach - I'll check-in and if it didn't I will add it to dropbox.

Basically you prep all social sites and forums.

You write your 2000 - 3000+ word epic post.

Prep the post for maximum benefit (opt-in conversion or sale)

go to twitter, FB, Pinterest immediately upon publication to share. You can auto share, but personally sharing is better. ex. search for questions that your post answers then answer the question adding your blog link for more detail.

Then I add share options (some you can automate) 1-day after post goes live, 1-week after the post goes live, 2-weeks, and 1-month.

Now, 30-days should give you some good stats to check to see if your post did well.

p.s. one of the prep tasks is to create tracking links for your post for each network - this lets you know what version (copy) was clicked

I suggest you to submit it on all relevant social bookmarking sites. StumbleUpon, Reddit, Bizsugar, Scoop it, delicious, Inbound.org. etc. that you should try for. Another great tool "Buffer" which help you to publish your content on a Scheduled basis so you don't need to publish it daily.
