Building up a forum?

Hello everyone,


Any tips on the best way to build up a niche forum? I know about paying people to post and promoting it in other forums but really is that the only way, we haven't done any of this? We get sign ups but not many posters?

    Why don't you send out emails to those who have registered. Alerting them about the "weeks hottest topics" and asking them to share their opinions.

    This was the thing that frustrated me when I was building up my niche forums. They were allways people signing up but only a few of them posted.

    My questions to you are:
    - How old is your forum?
    - How many members do you have?
    - How many topics do you have?

    These are important factors. Community allways take their time, till they build up. I would create fake accounts and start posting topics and answers to your board. This is what I have done in my niche boards and by the time, people joined the discussions.

    I know a webmaster who has a big Chinese forum with 1500k registered users.
    He said his secret is 365 days to post 300 listings or replies with different accounts by himself while he was studying in a college.
    Now he owns a super big forum and hire his brothers to run the forum after graduated from college.

      Damn much respekt for that dude. This is what I was exactly doing when I started forums and what I can recommend everyone who likes to start a forum. There is no other way to succeed. To be absolutly honest, who is going to register himself on a forum with none or only a few members? Nobody. So you need to push it a little bit.

        Hello! Cheers for the replies, my forum started in early July this year, has around 30 legit members, and around 80 likes on our Facebook page

        Anywhere I can get decent, legit link building? I have made some myself as I know 95% are scams. Need help on building this up though!

          Forums needs time to grow. It also depends on your niche, how many potential members you will get. I can´t answer you this question because I´m not familiar with your niche.

          You are right, most backlink building services are scams. I would also not use anykind of automated software because this will be flagged by Google.

          Building quality backlinks need time. You can search for blogs that have a higher page rank than yours but which are dedicated to your niche. And ask the webmaster if he (probably for a small donation) would insert a link to your forum on his page for a few weeks. You need this kind of backlinking. Not the worthless mass.

    TBH, starting a forum is really difficult. If you are new to IM I would recommend that you spend your energy on something else in order to make money.

    People who have been scammed are more likely to post.

    So make sure your forum has plenty of posts about "red widgets ripped me off" or "green widget scams".
