Tracking abandoned projects to aquire

A question for the more techy among you.
I want to keep an eye on websites, resources and apps related to my industry that are being abandoned and I could buy at a cheap price.
Any suggestion for how to monitor websites automatically and create an alert for when they stop being actively promoted and used.
For example, I see lots of interesting, related projects being launched on ProductHunt https://www.producthunt.com/topics/marketing .
Not all of these will turn into viable businesses. But could have some value in terms of links, traffic and users.
I realise there are services to track if a domain expires but I would prefer to catch it before that.
Any ideas? Or where to ask next?

  • www.videotrafficgenie.com/wfspecial allows you to find YouTube videos that have an expired domain in description. I am not sure if it still works, obviously is not working like in the beginning.

I am not aware of an alarm system for expired domains but maybe you can find a software to test domains and you run that every day on a VPS.
