Build your Email List Or Social Media Following ?

Hello,

This thought has just occurred to me now, I have been building an email list from solo ads (95%) since August 2015.

Also also building a social media following & most of my best business partners (+ sales) have joined me/come from from my social media building efforts.

Building an email list is expensive but building social media following costs almost nothing apart from your time.

The email lists of subscribers takes forever to warm up to you but social media followers interact with you straight away.

So Should I Build My Email List Or Social Media Following ? Times are changing !

Cheers guys!

Building a solid email list and having a steady engaged following on social media is one of the single biggest keys to launching successful fundraising campaigns. Both are effective!

I would focus primarily on building your email list.

The reason is because the world of social media is constantly changing. You never know what's happening next.

Email, however, is something that will not go away. You have more safety with that.

Also, if you promote something, more people will see it if you send them an email compared to a post on a social media platform

I totally agree. As Google said they don't count social signals, because as you said "social media is constantly changing".
And most successful marketers use primarily email marketing.

Continue growing both. Social media followings can grow quickly, but a change in ToS or a page shutdown can ruin your entire business if that's all you rely on.

Your e-mail list will be a more dependable source of revenue for you in the long run. Both are worthwhile.

Your email list is an asset you own while your social media page can be just shut down at any time as Coach Marc mentioned, so I'd do social media with the intent of getting email list subscribers and not likes.
I'd also make sure to keep sharing valuable content to keep my e-mail open rate high.

Moreover, email is a transactional medium. People are used to doing business, reading and buying offers via e-mail while many just use facebook for entertainment.

Social media will expose your company or service to new eyes. With one click your message is shown to multitude of people. Social media can help you find customers already talking about your business- information you can leverage to reach even more people.

The broad-stroke advice is that email list trumps social media presence. That is, as internet marketers we would always want to funnel everything to our email lists. It gives us more control and tends to build a closer relationship if you are doing it right.

However, since you are experiencing great success with your social media process, I would say just keep building on that until it stabilizes then work on your email list (assuming you can only work on 1 at a time). Work on what's working for you, that's all there is to it

Build both to have an insurance. You won't know when the social media platform will be shut down, and you'll lose all the followers.
