Which is Best WebHosting?

Used Hostgator for a few years without any major issues. But this year is getting really bad. Slow load time, timeouts, slow customer support etc. Thinking of switching to a better webhost. Which is the best webhost you've used so far?

Hostgator used to be the best a few years ago. Their support used to be very good; fast wait times, very knowledgeable etc. Godaddy I'm not so sure as I used to hear bad things about them, not sure now.

When it comes to web hosting, it is crucial to find the perfect combination of affordability and efficiency. You won't get this combination right if you don't research on the features and services provided by the web hosting companies.

It's really difficult to find proper or good web hosting service. I would recommend you to stay away from companies under EIG group. Hostgator has been purchased by EIG group.

It depends upon customers to look around for companies which satisfy there requirements. Customers should also search for reviews about companies.

Have you considered that you've been overloading the server with all your content, or your current plan just can't handle the additional traffic you've been getting? Maybe it's just time to upgrade your hosting plans if you're planning on upgrading. Switching hosts requires you to re-learn the back panel that different servers provided. Request a professional site checker to see whether the faults are from the server side or simply your own oversight on overloading of traffic/content.

I had used several web hosting services and the best that I discover is GoDaddy. I can
ensure you that it is the best option you can find for your bucks.

You need to make sure to look up promo code on Google because every week they
    release thousands of promo code.

On holiday, you can even buy web hosting with up to 80% off; so, you need to be aware
of this fact and take advantage of it.

Webhostingtalk is the place to spend a little time digging.

If you're not in need of a VPS or dedicated server (your sites don't get a ton of traffic) you might consider Stablehost.

One of their threads on WHT gives you like 75% off a years worth of shared hosting and their service is pretty good.

I would only recommend a host like WireTree if you have already outgrown shared hosting and need a more robust solution.

90+% of this forum don't need VPS or dedicated hosting, so shared hosting is fine for most needs.

    Weighing in with Skynethosting.

Recently had support issue with SEOhosting and Skynethosting at the same time.

Even though both solved my problems Skynet was about 36 hours quicker and without the responses from them I would have probably struggled for days longer with SEOhosting because their questions to help with resolving my issues were very ambiguous.

Currently use the following hosts in descending order of support experience. All are excellent but have ordered in response time as per my experiences. Skynethosting, 1&1, Hostnine, SEOhosting, Hostgator, Godaddy.

Somewhat embarrassed to list Go-daddy as my experience would warrant not listing them at all. For Buying and selling domains they are great but for hosting?? nah.

Obviously, this is a pretty general questions. It really depends what you're looking for. Different situations demand different suggestions.

Shared Hosting - I would recommend someone like Nexcess (they'd also be my Magento recommendation)
VPS - I would check out Wired Tree or Future Hosting

Ultimately you should look for a web host that specializes in what you need. Like others have mentioned, I would also avoid EIG owned companies, but that is a personal thing. I think smaller hosting companies value their customer relationships more and offer better customer service.

I don't know if OP is still reading this, but this may be helpful for others as well.

There are many things to be said about the "what is the best hosting company" question. The first, I feel, is there is no such thing as a best hosting company, for the very reason people looking for a host have different needs.

As it was said in this thread, you first need to consider what hosting option is right for you, between :

      Shared Hosting
      VPS
      Dedicated Hosting
      and other cloud based solutions.

There are also lots of points that you need to consider when choosing a host package : Linux or Windows ? 1 script install ? Backups ? Free domain ? Marketing credits (adwords, bing, facebook, twitter) ? datacenter locations ? How many visitors you site receives ? How much diskspace do you need ? etc.

Then, there are essential features a good host must provide and those are :

Speed : crucial if you don't want to lose returning visitors and rank better in search engines
Reliability (uptime) : crucial if you want your website to be online with the the fewer downtimes possible
Support : crucial when you'll need support

With that said, I didn't help OP that much so far.

There has been lots of hate from customers towards Hostgator, iPage, Justhost, Fatcow or Bluehost, which are all brands owned by one large hosting group : Endurance International Group (EIG).

EIG has a reputation of harming the quality of services of the company they buy. But to be fair, Hostgator and Bluehost are some of the largest hosting companies in the shared hosting market. And since people tend to express themselves more when they're unhappy than when they're happy, it's only normal you see more complaints about these bigger hosts.

I personally have used lots of hosts in more than 10 years online. I currently own accounts at the following hosts :
      • Arvixe
      • A Small Orange
      • Bluehost
      • Dreamhost
      • Fatcow
      • Hostgator
      • iPage
      • Site5
      • Siteground
      • Inmotion Hosting

I am using those accounts to run comparison tests, and the results so far :

if you're hosting HTML sites, the best options, speedwise :
      • Hostgator
      • Dreamhost
      • Siteground

Keep in mind I'm not adding suppport or reliability to the equation, I'm just talking about speed.

if you're hosting Wordpress sites, the best options, speedwise :
      • Site5
      • Inmotion
      • A Small Orange

Again, I'm only talking about speed here.

As far as support is concerned, it's a different story (well, not entirely) :

Hostgator takes days to respond to my tickets
A Small Orange live chat support has proved to be available almost instantly, everytime I used them.

Actually, the above are only parts of my testing, I can't post much more here so far, since I'm not done.

But to give a simple answer, I'd say go with Site5 or Inmotion if you can afford them, if you're hosting Wordpress sites.

Otherwise, A Small Orange has decent speed, but not the best, but their support is just great. ($5 a month)

For the record, iPage and Fatcow show some of the worst speed results according to my tests

      Cheers !

Justhost, Bluehost (both the same company, found that today out when I called support) are good. Depending on what you're using it for, small niche sites are cool and dandy for shared hosting, but to answer your question nothing is going to beat out your own private server.

I'm also using HostGator right now, but there is an increasing amount of issues such as file hacking, failed database connections and really slow support (around 40mins), so I'm thinking about SiteGround as I cannot host my website and recommend HostGator when it's so poor these days.
