Huge launch (biggest ever?) -- yet no thread on the product review forum here?!?!?

The only thing I really wana know is, what the OTOs are? (I'm assuming there are many of them -- yes?)

All the gory details -- like how much they are ($), and exactly what they are.

I always prefer to know what the OTOs are, in advance. That minimizes my sighing and eye-rolling.

Thanks.

    Hello,

OTO1 = Mega Themes and SVGs ---> Downsell - Personal Use
OTO2 = Slides and SVGs Montly Membership --> Downsell - Personal Use

    OTO1 = $37 --> Downsell $17
    OTO2 = $17 Monthly --> Downsell $9.95 Monthly

Some talk about Explaindio on this thread here, especially pages 2 and 3.

Yeah, we've been talking about Explaindio for awhile actually, but on the thread ForumGuru provided.

Explaindio needs its own thread, however, so thanks for posting, TimothyW.

So Joan... since you gave us a pretty good review/summary of Explaindio in the other thread, perhaps you could provide some of that info here? Not to be redundant, of course. But you're right - Explaindio should have it's own thread.

I purchased Explaindio but I still have not had a chance to look at it. Not sure I'll get the chance today. Hopefully I will tomorrow.

Thanks for the link. I started watching the tutorials but Nick goes through the sequence like he is hurrying down a 12-inch subway sandwich. Then again, I'm busy and don't have time to spend two hours learning yet another program.

Tomorrow, the pitch-fest begins. They call it training. But I remember having to sit through the elaborate presentations with VMFX. I most likely will watch the replay, at least I can fast forward to what I think is necessary to learn the program.

I must be the first one to have problems with explaindio?

Have got to instal but will not open the software, no warnings about problems?

Left message with support 24 hours ago, no reply to message, via email

Tried to register with their helpdesk support in members area, that is also brocken as it will
not accept me as my email is taken?

    I am using windows 7.

I can understand them being busy with sales etc but thought they would have some support
in place if even to say will be back to you.

Their is something about a problem in their facebook group, about not opening, it does open but it's a blank screen, they are working on it.

The cause of it is that it looks for a mic that is not there, so if it's the same problem you have, try to put in a mic, or use your audio manager to make it look like their is one.

I don't have a mic in, but realtek audio manager make it look like their is one (by making it not look for the front jacks or something) if I turn that of, I also get a blank screen, but by turning it on again it works fine, hope they fix it soon.

Their is also another problem they are aware of and working on, for some people, me included, the libraries sometimes won't load in a project.

But other than that it's a great software.

Given all the promotion, I'm very surprised this isn't a much longer thread (and yes I've read through the other thread from ForumGuru).

I too am very interested to hear from anyone who bought the OTO's - are they worth it, and what is the difference between the main OTO and the downsell 'personal use'.

Can anyone who purchased provide just a basic review i.e. are you able to get it to work, does it seem to work as advertised, is it simple to use, etc.

    Thanks!

    Update to EXplaindio problem

I was able to download an updated version 1.4 and it solved my problem. The software operates fine.

Have explored and played about with the various options and used the built in slides, music and hand sketch. It is very simpe to follow and it also allows you to import your own music, videos, backgrounds and images. Although I have not compiled a video so cannot comment on the final output.

It appears they are going to be doing updates for any problems and providing further videos for advanced
training and have an active FB page where some people have posted some impressive videos they have able to create using the software.

Sorry I cannot comment on OTOs as I did not purchase any, it may be possible to upgrade to purchase once you have bought the basic?.

So in summary have got it to work, it works as said yes it is simple to use and fun.

I purchased the first OTO, which is a collection of character slides (all male characters - 3 total), including a weight loss guy character slide set (separate from the other 3 mentioned), some backgrounds, 120 SVG files (for the sketch feature) that are also all male and allows you to build a story from them (doctor, construction worker, funny employee, mechanic, and an office worker), 2 lower third animation zips, a large zip of more sketch elements, such as arrows, men and women, business icons, charts, flags, buildings, scene objects, etc..and a zip file from a frequent seller of graphics here on the WF named Max (I can't remember his last name) that has his sketch doodles and some really nice image backgrounds.

The OTO is $29 (might be more now...maybe $37) which you can use for yourself and client projects, and the downsell is the same package but for personal use for $17 (again, this might cost more now).

I passed on OTO 2, which is a membership for these type of graphics on a monthly recurring basis. Again, the first offer is for personal use or clients, and the downsell is for personal use only. It was cheap for the personal use only membership ($9.95/mth - might be more now), but I already have the VMFX membership and ESP membership, so I don't need another one.

    Edited to add....

Importing VMFX files for me required the following steps:

    1. Go into your Program Files folder on your computer drive and look for the "VideoMakerFX" folder. This is where VMFX extracts its own slides to your computer when you install them and you'll see each slide set in their own folders.

    2. Zip up those VMFX slide folders, individually, not all in one.

    3. Click the import icon in Explaindio and use the first option listed "Import Slide Pack To Your Library" to load the VMFX zip files into the software. Just browse where you have the VMFX zip folders of the slides and load each of them one after another, clicking the "Start Import" button for each.

You don't have to save anything or close out after each import....just load the zip, import and immediately load another zip and import. Doesn't take too long.

They have instructions to do it differently, but that did not work for me. I had to figure out how to do it myself and the above method worked.

Shortly after posting the above comment, I discovered that you cannot add video backgrounds to imported VMFX slides, because VMFX never had that option. So you can only use video backgrounds for the slides that Explaindio creates.

Now I might cancel my VMFX membership and subscribe to the Explaindio membership for that reason alone.

Hi, for anyone who has purchased it I have 2 questions.

      1. How many video backgrounds come with it?

      2. Can I create my video and then do a voice over?
I have Video scribe and I create the video, then record over the top of it while it plays so I can see it.
      Does this have that feature?

While it lets you record your voice over the video I've found that the voice over is not in sync with the video itself. Most annoying!

Also have come across another problem which didn't happen before. Now when I save a small video it does not save the whole video. I've left a ticket and am awaiting a reply.

@Enfusia: You supply your own video backgrounds; however, you can create a video out of any of the animation slides or scenes and then use it as the video background for sketch scenes or as background for other animation slides.

In the audio settings, you can click the microphone icon which brings up a box where you can record a voice over while the slide or entire scene you are working on is playing in the center of the box. The slides start to play when you click the microphone icon in the box (this is an additional microphone icon, separate from the one that brings up the box to begin with).

You can adjust the volume, see volume level activity while speaking, and stop and start the recording.

After you exit out of the audio settings, you can preview the scene immediately and hear your voice over along with it or turn voice over off.

My problem is that Norton Internet Security will not let me download the main product. It says the exe file contains malware. As soon as I download it, Norton deletes the file. Tech support for Explaindio says it's because of the anti-piracy protection they use. I have not run into that issue with any other software, so I'm a bit skeptical.

Has anyone else seen this problem?

There are a few threads in the FB group. I don't know if they solved it as I didn't have the problem so never read the threads.

The thing that winds me up about the software is, in the main settings screen. The bottom right preview screen.

Every time you make a change in the settings it automatically starts playing the preview.

Yes I had to turn Norton off for 15min in order to download and install the
program or else Norton would quickly delete the program. After doing that
everything seems fine. I tried just shutting off the Norton firewall but actually
had to turn off the whole program.

A little off topic, but I gotta say - I am not a fan of Norton. Having a background in IT, I've helped people who were having problems with their system running slow - uninstalled Norton and installed Avast and their problems went away.

Norton is a HUGE resource hog. And as for protection - the free version of Avast did better in tests than Norton. Way better.

OK that's it for my rant. We now return you to your regularly scheduled discussion.

I agree with you on Norton, it is a resource hog. I used Avast Free for years and never had a problem until about 3 years ago when I picked up a bug that Avast would not delete. I installed Norton in desperation and it cleared up the
problem and I just kept using it. May sneak back one of these days when the
          renewal comes up for Norton.

Still haven't really had a good chance to sink my teeth into it yet. I got it downloaded and installed, fired it up and there was a message that there was an update available - lol. That was fast. I guess there were a few bugs early on that they had to work out...

So then I downloaded again and reinstalled. Looking forward to diving in.

I originally had problems with Norton deleting Explaindio version 1.002. I just downloaded version 1.004. Norton simply asked me if I trust this file. It did not delete the install file this time. The installation went smoothly.

I don't know if Norton is starting to register lots of installations, or if the original installation problems were fixed.

Does anyone know what the zip file version is supposed to do? I downloaded that first and unzipped it. You can run Explaindio from those files, but there isn't any installer.

      That makes sense.

I went to the first link and did a search for clipart with "Christmas" as the search criteria. It brought me to a ton of Christmas clipart on a site called openclipart.org.

From there, when you click on an icon image, it takes you to a page where it shows the image a little larger and gives you the option to download a small, medium, or large PNG file. But if you click on the image itself, it takes you to the image in it's largest format - right click on that, and choose "Save As"... and they're all SVG files.

      Pretty cool stuff.

Yeah, openclipart.org is a public domain site that was started back in 2004 by the Inkscape developers. While that site is one of the better ones, we can only hope the uploaders of the images and clips to the free sites actually had the rights to upload the stuff in the first place.

Nice software but having many problems with every version so far..I have three support tickets opened and not answered, they must be swamped. One problem is that after saving a project, then reloading the project, the only font that it will keep is their default. If I change any text font, it disappears after saving a project and reloading. I hope they get the problems worked out but right now I cannot even use it until this function works. Once the bugs are worked out, it should be great!

I still haven't had a chance to really get into it and now it's looking like the soonest I might be able to is Monday. But what you said about the font... I'm curious about that. Do you mean that when you select a different font it switches it back to their default when you go to run/test the video, or do you just mean that every time you go to add text it brings up their default font instead of the last one you used? Because Easy Sketch Pro does that also - and I didn't like that either. Both the font and the font size.

No, here's how to duplicate the problem. I'm using the software on Windows 7

1.) Create a simple project, one slide is fine.
2.) Change the text on the slide to any font but the default one. It works fine, it displays all the fonts.
        3.) Save the project.
4.) Load another project or exit and reload the software
5.) Open your saved project like you were going to work on it again and the text is now missing until you select the default font, no other font but their default will work on the project now

I hope I'm not the only one with this strange bug..

I had literally JUST finished downloading and installing 1.3 and when I opened it, I was prompted to download and install 1.4. And it wasn't just a matter of updating what was already installed; I had to redownload and reinstall.

Yes, it's beta for sure. It's a brilliant video creator but they definitely used some poor programming practices in this software. Example, support says run it as Administrator.. Nobody should have to do that if the programmers were following proper rules for file creation. I'm not sure when it will stick here that's for sure. I'm thinking of trying it on my iMac to see if it works properly there.

Ugh. Yeah, Easy Sketch Pro (the first one - I can't speak for the second one because I didn't buy it) had a lot of rookie programming issues too. That's why I didn't believe him when he said he spent 100k on the development of the second one. I think he just found a programmer on Fiverr or something.

Well I hope Explaindio will still be a useful tool.

"Run it as Administrator" is the new band aid for technical support who can't solve your technical issues. Remember the days when computer support people would ask you, "Did you plug in your computer?"

I'm thinking of trying it on my iMac to see if it works properly there.

Lol. That's because a lot of people either forgot to plug in their computer or it unplugged by accident.

When I got A+ certified in 2007, that's what we were taught - start with the basics first. Of course, more knowledgeable people would get irritated by those questions, but if you didn't ask those first you could be spending a lot of time trying to figure out a solution that had a simple remedy.

I remember one call I had, the guy's mouse stopped working. I asked him to check if it was plugged in (wired mouse), and he seemed annoyed by the request, and it was plugged in. I then asked him to unplug it and plug it back in and reboot the computer - he sighed loudly - but that fixed the problem. Temperature changes over time caused the plug to move just enough to disconnect while still plugged in.

Yes, that's true . And in this case their software is writing all the project files to the Program Files folder at run time, a protected folder which requires admin rights. That alone will make your support desk flood with tickets.

Hey guys, I am having major issues with Explainido.

    1. I can not contact customer support. I use the email / password provided with purchase details. However, this does not work for support. I then register ( provide my Name / Email ) but there is no option for password. It looks as if I am registered. However, I get NO email from them. I then use the option to reset password. I then get the following error - We're sorry, but we could not locate your account. If you are having issues try copying and pasting the URL from your email into your browser or restarting the reset password process. Absolutely Frustrating !!!

    2. I took the entire afternoon creating the perfect video with 7 screens. The preview looks awesome. However, I go to Export and there are problems with Path / File. It does not seem to want to use the particular path or file folder I am wanting to use. I attempt to use the desktop. At first it looks like it is exporting correctly. I then get the ( Export Complete With Errors ) I can not locate the video on the desk top, or any other areas on my PC. Extremely Frustrating !!

Have anyone of you ran into similar problems? Do you have any idea how I can access support via regular email? I went back to JV zoo and the purchase details said support@explainido.com but when using this email , I get NO conformation that my request had been received..

I appreciate any information you fellow Warriors can provide..

    Take care,
    Jason

      Hi Jason,

Can answer your query in part.

Re: I experienced everything you did regards support / help desk. I eventually received an email
3 days later giving me a link and ticket number ? but I had already solved my problem when I updated to a new version. Incidently I did not know of the new version until I visted the membership site.

It seems that they are not linking up their communictions.

Hopefully others may help you on the saving created videos.

      Good luck

I got an email late last week stating that they created a new customer support account for me. It included a link (personal) to activate the account and create a password.

I did that just now and everything worked fine. I never did put in a support ticket. So you should find a way to contact them.

Version is now 1.8 with the ability to resize and move videos and images inside the animated slides. Nice new feature.

Well, today I get an email saying I can get an add-on app for Explaindio for half price.

So, I watch the video and think, "yeah, that's a necessary feature. But why are they charging their customers for it? Even $4.95 at half price?"

The feature is the ability to draw different colored sketch lines. Something that it should have already been able to do.

I mean, Paul Lynch over at Easy Sketch Pro just keeps updating and upgrading his app (according to user feedback), without so much as hinting at more money. And gifts buyers with free images on a regular basis, as well.

So why is Explandio trying to shake us down over a standard feature add-on afterthought?

    Disappointing...

I got the plugin under pressure (the scarcity principle + shiny object syndrome = powerful combination!) - no time to check if all this can be done by playing with the settings in Ink or Adobes. I agree with you, this is not a stand-alone product, it enhances the functionality of the existing software, and if it is to be treated as an update, then it comes a bit strange as upgrades were said to be free for a year.

Oh well.. It is just 5 bucks...

P.S. Returned to add - just had to, cos in my experience the Explaindio team (Nick La Polla, Aeon Thompkin) are part of the sadly not too big number of the good product creator guys on here; their support ethic and product management have been great on previous launches. The last thing I would like to do is bash them; I suggest we wait for some explanation on FB.

I paid the $4.95. But I see your point.

As far as Easy Sketch Pro... I didn't buy the second one (just the first one) and Paul Lynch doesn't offer anything else to me anymore. And before he released the second one I rarely received emails from him that weren't selling something - and a lot of times they were extras for the program. Maybe he's changing his strategy now, idk.

I got that email as well. I agree that it should be be treated as an update.

    But........$5 bucks x 10,000 clients = $50,000 Money, Money.........!

I'm at the point that I may not buy anything from the IM sellers anymore.

They only sold a little over 100 copies of it for the special offer price. Not many jumped on it.

And I was wrong (misunderstood the video). The product creator explained it is a stand-alone application, not a plugin, as I thought. You can do it in Inkscape and Adobe but this tool will come in handy for quick jobs. I don't regret the purchase, for sure.
