University of Internet Science - Don't get on their list unless you like LOTS of email

So I signed up for this free program - University of Internet Science. I wasn't really looking to join a program, a friend had sent me a link where you could supposedly get some free tool from them. It looked cool and I wanted the tool. I signed up and never saw the tool and never saw any indication of how to get it. I was just suddenly enrolled in their program.

My inbox was suddenly inundated with email from Michelangelo Lopez. The first one was simply welcoming me to the program, which was fine. But after that, over the next few days I received multiple emails daily - mostly promoting something. Many were the same email sent multiple times and sometimes the same email with different subject lines.

On the "lightest" day I received five. On the "heaviest" day I received ten. I have never, ever received so much email from a single marketer who's list I had subscribed to.

Anyone else who has experienced this?

Well, what do you expect when you sign-up to a list in-exchange to receive something for free?

It's all about the money, once they got you on the list by giving away something for free, they then need to convert you into a buyer, hence all the heavy email promos. No one wants "deadweight" on a list.

And lastly, if you don't like it, just unsubscribe. No need to make a thread about it. As a marketer yourself, you must understand why you're getting all the emails?

Build list, profit, rinse and repeat. No one builds a list for the "fun" of it. It's all about the benjamins baby.

Uh... hmm. Yeah. I do understand lists and marketing. And I think it bugged me more as a marketer than as someone getting too much email. Email marketing is all well and good. But email bombardment is not a marketing tactic that tends to be successfully employed by anyone.

I did unsubscribe, btw. As I suspect most people who sign up to their list probably end up doing pretty quickly.

I just started the thread to give people a heads up is all.

I once got on a list of someone that was a regular poster here, I have not seen him lately though. His free offer was very informative. Then the emails started coming 2 and 3 times a day. And, they were all one sentence emails to the likes of "Hey Check this out" or "Here is a great product". That is it, one sentence and a link.

I unsubscribed after about a week
