Perry Belcher! He's Promoting Hard. Anyone know of him?

Hey guys!
Hope you are good.

Has anyone come across Perry Belcher?
He's promoting his twitter course at the moment (I got a link from someone in an email yesterday 16.July 2009).

He's good at self promotion, that's for sure. Although I have to say his video and pdf does have some good stuff in it.

As a clever IM-er, I did of course do a search for him to see how he stands in the eyes of others. It would be fair to say he's self promoting quite well!

And he has been a naughty boy in the past according to his local sheriff's department. I won't bore you with the link here. Just do a search for Perry Belcher (I used Google).

I'm not pre judging him. I never think that is fair, even with his past track record. But it should give cause to check him out. So what do you think?

Anyone have any constructive feedback?
Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,
John Adams

Yeah,he is promoting himself hard. His e-book getmoneyfromgoogle was bits and tips. I hope you check out reviews by other marketers.

    Thanks.

Interesting blog post ind you got here! Sounds like Perry pissed off the wrong people and paid a pretty stiff fine (a cool $1M) for doing. Still, from the guys I've talked to about what he and Deiss are doing, this program is on the up & up.

I got a 6 x 11 post card usps from them yesterday on their new social media money system. their vids are only so/so - but i've gotten a few neat tips from viewing the prelim stuff and the guarantee makes the down side manageable, although thinking about 8 weeks of watching online videos seems a bit much.

        nice one guys!
I knew this one would draw some people in. I don't usually take much time to chase too many links in every post I read, but I have to say I have checked out the links posted here, so thank you all warriors for that.

Truth is I only mentioned him because I wanted to check out a link he promoted in the pdf: http://www.warriorforum.com/internet...-bits-one.html Affiliate Review Site Monopoly by Stephen Carr
I agree with the quality of his 3 twitter videos and pdf on beating twitter. They are good, and very doable. A lot of what he said makes perfect sense. It's obvious to see that he has done his home work.

As it is obvious he's spent a lot of time mastering twitter. His videos are entertaining (which makes a change from most that are flying around). He's a good marketer, there's no doubt about that, and hats off to him for that: He's actually taking action on getting on with it.

It's a shame (for everyone involved) that he got caught up in black hat stuff. He definitely paid a good price for it in the end (check out the content and video posted by JNFerree: Perry Belcher: Internet Marketer Pleads Guilty and Forfeits Assets : Internet Law and Business Blog).

It is a great lesson for every warrior to take a look at. Stay white hat and keep the sheriff off your back!

Nevertheless, I like what he says so far. I like the way he presents his videos and I'll be following what he does until I see cause not to. I suspect he'll do well. And based on what I've seen so far, he'll deserve to.

I definitely recommend you take a look at the videos and grab the pdf (no, I'm not promoting. Not an affiliate or anything). The mindset he has on twitter is different to everything else I've seen, and it does make perfect sense.

I have received numerous emails from him as of late. I am not sure how I got on his list really. His information looks quality.

Well, everyone makes mistakes....it's the ones that won't own up to it that you really have to worry about.

It's rather amusing how some people refer to what he did as a mistake. You even have one guy in the thread calling it blkht. WTF? The dude broke the law in a big way. He laughed his ass all the way to the bank. He gets caught and then is sorry about it all? Come on people. Do you think he would still be peddling his sugar pills if he hadn't gotten busted?

Ah what the hell... he seems like a nice enough guy. Send him some more money then I guess.

You wonder why the big names are all promoting his stuff? It's because they all know that they are a heartbeat away from going through the same thing. They only hope that people will be around to pick them up and help them start over. It's the good ole boys network alive and well.

All you have to do is think about this stuff just a little bit. It's not to hard to figure out.

      Exactly!
who will earn $500 to 4 1500 from every single buyer out there. Of course he is clever and witty. But is tis worth $ 1000 for a six week video program. You pay upfront and get the course drip feeded, like a few weeks ago with Cris Carpenters (Re)launch of the google cash detective. So your moneyback guarantee becomes a joke because before it ends you have only seena percentage of the content.
So: if you want to check it out, build a coop with fellow Warriors / marketers and save the first 50% that otherwise will be payed to the guy on whose list you were.

Plus Attorney Mike Young makes a fair point in his blog:
For example, I just got spammed on Facebook for Belcher's new webinar. Although I'm sure Belcher would deny responsibility for the action of his affiliate, here are excerpts from the spam.

Holy Crap, This got BIG Fast! 8000 Seats GONE for The
Largest Webinar in Internet Marketing History!...

      See You On The Webinar,

      -Perry

      P. S. My normal speaking fee is $25,000 for 70 Minutes
So this is REALLY a valuable webinar.

The number of seats is suspect. At best, this means the number of people who went through the squeeze page to register for the freebie.

However, his speaking fee claim is ridiculous. Where's the social proof? How about a list of speaking gigs where he has actually been paid that amount to speak (not gross sales on products and coaching programs pitched from the stage).

      Why was I spammed today?

Here's part of this week's Affiliate to-do list from Perry and Ryan's site:

Tuesday July 21st - Mail For Social Media Webinar (swipe mail to be provided day before)

Wednesday July 22nd - Mail For Social Media Webinar (swipe mail to be provided day before)

      LAUNCH DAY

Thursday July 23rd - It's Open Mail Sales Letter (swipe mail to be provided day before)

What Belcher is piking is a system that he used to "create 130,000 rabid social media fans in just 9 months." Translation, through automation and hired help, he built lists of followers on Twitter, Facebook, etc. Take that 130,000 number and "rabid" description with a grain of salt.

There's a fine line between sales puffery and outright lying. My hunch is that Belcher is crossing it again.
How long do we want to accept fellows with bragging to get "$25,000 for 70 Minutes". I am to close to people struggling, to be fascinated by that. I watched Belchers seminar last night. First I thought: how honest this guy deals with his past, but at the end I was not sold but unsold.
Immediately send him two tweets. Will be interesting to see whether I will ever get an answer.

Perry has 105.000 followers and pretends to follow 113.000 himself. And pretended that some 10.000to 20.000 where on the call.
Perry Belcher really knows what he does, and the presentation was excellent, but at the end it comes to selling. So the question is what? We heard a lot of giving away for free and then up selling recently and most of the guru follow this path. And here is MR Belcher with almost $1000 for six weeks of videos. And seconds later he tells you that this the "cheap" entry. The real deal is in the coaching and in the mastermind group. This simply means he has no product to offer for his average follower. That is bad news. And: Look at the video on the affiliate site: maybe I am to conservative (already) or to left wing (still) to join forces...
He makes a big issue on his blog about his shocking confessions.
I posted the following comment there:
          Hi Perry,
Mistakes in the past can happen.
          But:
          I did not understand:
who hat the disadvantages from your profits?
Did you apologize to these people?
And compensated them from the big earnings you make now?
          And if you say:
"I will never tell anything less than 100% FACT BASED truth till the day I die."
Are you and I really going to believe your time is worth more than $20.000 for 2 hours as you claimed in you invitation yesterday?
Any proof and real answers or just these vague videos?
No, you can not see it there.

I don't know what's in this program, and won't be buying it myself. I do pay attention to everything Perry and Ryan do though because they are two of the smartest dudes out there, period.
I did buy Winning With Social Media, which was the first social media program Perry had, and it looks like this new one has a ton more info in it. I've made hundreds of thousands for my clients, which translates into tens of thousands for myself, with the info I got in Winning with Social Media. So, I think if IM is your thang, what Perry is teaching you really is the cheapest and easiest way to get yourself in front of an audience.

Hey we are all entiltled to make a mistake. And yes Perry could possibly still be selling his pills if he hadnt been caught. However he was and has paid the price.

Great that he hasn't attempted to hide it, i wonder how many other business's have horror storied they have covered up. (just about every big corporate business then!)

The difference here in the IM world is it's oh so easy to dig a little and find out the info both good and bad.

Kudos to Perry for realising his mistake and having the sense to come out and be honest up front about it.

He didn't realize anything. He was arrested and convicted.

For you folks talking about how he is not trying to hide it and is being up front about it. How is he going to hide it? What other choice does he have if he wants to sell you shit? He knows it is going to come up. So you make a video partially apologizing for your "mistake", and you paint yourself as somewhat of the victim.

Shake down my ass... you better research some more.

I have to ask how it would be possible for him to hide if it it made front page news in several online news sources? There could be nothing to hide and nothing to do but admit it and ask forgiveness, right?

It's true that some of the more well known (Not the highest earning) IM'ers are friends. And they do help each other with promotion of their products, just like any good friend would do.

But what I don't get is why everyone has to keep on bitchin' and moanin' about these people.

Don't like the e-mails Filsaime sends you than unsubscribe and you never have to hear from him again.

Don't like the product Perry is putting out than don't buy it!

Here's the thing these guys know what they're doing, and they're very good at it.

Filsaime's, Kern's, Belcher's, Moffatt's, Walkers's products all deliver value. Massive value, value that in the right hands will sky rocket your business to the same height as theres.

It's becoming cool to hate these people because it's easy to do, but where is that getting you?

How much money is that making you?

Maybe it's time to start thinking about what's going to get you ahead.

I saw Perry Belcher at Yanik Silver's Underground Seminar in DC in 2007. Remember him well.... He was one of the speakers there and I must say I was impressed at the time--he got a lot of cheers from the audeince.

Perry (supposedly) comes from a very humble background and is a very 'motivated' individual who claimed to make millions monthly. (I was not exactly sure if Perry's statements were true or not but he was and probably still is very entertaining, that's for sure)...Knows a lot about making money with outsourcing.... Incidentally, the audience just loved it as he tossed gourmet chocolates, Victoria Secret gifts to them.

The product teaches you tactics that can get you banned from social networks. It is also being promoted by people who supposedly had an "epiphany" on social media and decided they would no longer do bait and switch tactics. Obviously the "epiphany" originated from the fact that their tactics no longer work.

    My take? Proceed with care.

BERNIE MADOFF made mistakes too. I'm very confident he "Knew what he was doing too". I guess we can shrug that off as well eh?
Let's face it people, it wasn't "MISTAKES" that were made. It was GREED that was performed & it was the fact that he was CAUGHT.

I love how people just randomly name of names, "X, Y, Z" Yep, they do good stuff, they know what they are doing. "Knowing What You Are Doing" is an assumption. You don't know for a fact what is SPENT, and what is actual revenue is really generated.

Until marketers can actually specifically speak to the costs of what their programs are
in a clear & concise way, absolutely "NO ONE" "KNOWS" what they are doing.

    OK, so here's the deal:
there are 3 levels of the program, at $1K for the videos, $2K for the coaching, and $3K for the mastermind. I actually like Perry a lot, and think his content and strategies are great, but not wanting to spend 1K now, are there other products or WSOs out there that are teaching the same concepts for less?

Liked the stuff he talked about too. But not a price tag for me either, especially if i pay upfront and get the content monthly.
So very interested in "the same concepts for less" too.
Plus: like (e)books still do not necessary need everything on video. It is so much easier to recheck a well marked book when beeing unsure some month after the original reading.

After reading through WF on this, I did a little bit of footwork and came across this program on Twitter and Social Media by Darren Monroe. He's been really helpful and he has zero hype and a decent resume.

In the end, look at all this stuff objectively and do your research before whipping out that credit card after watching the fancy videos and pre-launch voodoo.

I received an email a couple days ago from an "Expert" Internet Marketer who is promoting Perry's Social Media program. In this email the marketer was praising Perry's knowledge of Social Media and how he has over 100,000 people following him on Twitter. Well, he is also following 100,000 people on Twitter. Tell me, now do you follow 100,000 people on Twitter?

Before you spend a dime on a product that promises you Social Media riches, I recommend that you watch the two minute youtube video linked below where Seth Godin makes this excellent point about Social Networking (please note, I am paraphrasing). . . .

"The internet has allowed an enormous amount of fake networking to take place and it is easy to be seduced by it. It's not about how many people are following you on Twitter or what that little scoreboard at the top of the page says. It's about connecting with people and having 'Real Relationships' with people and prospects. And you get this by going out of your way for them. To the point!
      Thanks for sharing!

Only a complete idiot would not understand that it's not the number of followers you have, but the connection you have with them, and the esteem they hold you in. I've had lists of 25,000 people that are totally worthless, and had lists of under 1000 people make more money. However, what Perry is teaching with Social Media is excellent stuff, I've been using his stuff from his last Social Media course on my clients, and several of them are making hundreds of thousands because of what I learned from Perry about Twitter, FB, Social Bookmarking, and Youtube, that I then passed on to my clients.
If you've got a business, and you want to have an audience, your an idiot if you don't listen to what Perry B has to say, period.

      Marian,

Although I do agree that most people would be better served working on their business, I also understand how people can have a healthy amount of skepticism toward Perry's seeming transformation.

Business is about trust and value and if you plan to serve your customers for any length of time beyond one sale (which many of the churn and burn crowd can't muster because they peddle an endless supply of tactics with no strategy), you had better have a good supply of both.

Many on this forum are looking for guidance. Who would you seek for that guidance? Someone with a solid track record of value and trustworthiness or someone who was caught brazenly fleecing people who now professes to have seen the errors of his ways (only after he was caught, I might add) and is now back at it with the usual IM nonsense?

I believe people who pay for their mistakes deserve a second chance, but for me, the jury is still out on Mr. Belcher. I truly hope he is the guy he now professes to be.

Perry Belcher had around 10k people listening to his advice last night on a webinar...must say some seriously good things if he's got 10k people taking his advice.

We work with Perry, I've never met him...but he seems to be trusted by a lot of people at this point...maybe because he's so open about his past and ready to move forward.

I am not saying that I would BUY his products or that I totally trust perry.

EDIT: And no I didn't buy the product, and I DON"T wanna buy it simply because I don't want to use social media as one of the top ways to bring income.

I only trust a handfull of these big names, because they proved to me that besides wanting my money (witch I have nothing against, nothing is free in life so get over it) they actually want to help people.

And another thing, its all about who your target is...I see alot of people complaining "but what for the average guy?" or stuff like that...did you think for a second that maybe you were not his targeted customer?

If you do research on all the products that the big names have sold, you will ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS see that the ones that complain to be a scam or stuff are the ones that spend their food money or some sht on the product, the ones that tested it for a whole 2-3 days and all that crap...

While in the background, the other people are already making money.

People have to start thinking for themselves..."if this product is $2000 will I HAVE THE RESOURCES to use it?, do I have the AMBITION to use it for more then 2-3 weeks?"

If people were to start asking those questions first before they spend their food money on those courses, then I can GUARANTEE that 80% of the blogs out there that claim x product is garbage would never have existed.

And with perry...I just got a simple question: do YOU trust Deiss? Did he prove himself to actually wanna help people?

If your answer is yes, then by all means...go buy perry's product, because I personally don't think that Deiss would associate himself with Perry if he didn't think that he is trustworthy.

And for god sakes people, stop it with "the gu.ru's only want my money, they don't care about us...they just want money"...you don't like somebody, unsubscribe.

And maybe he DOESN'T want to help you, maybe he wants to help people that are making $10.000 a month or more...did you ever consider that?

Nobody is making you pay $2000 on a product, you decided that...but like I said, if you spend that money out of your rent money or some sht, then don't expect it to make you rich.

I have ALWAYS considered that if your just starting out, buying $2000 courses is a very bad idea UNLESS you can HONESTLY afford it.

Frankly, I have said before that people's best and most cost effective resources can be the bookstore and the library. There is already enough great information written about business by people who have led fortune 500 companies. Why would I need to learn a few useless tactics from a self annointed internet Goober when I can get the whole enchilada for a fraction of the price from a marketplace annointed counterpart? Why do people think they need to learn business on the internet from internet Goobers - hilarious. Release your minds from the box.

As for unsubscribing, sure, go ahead. However, this IM world is a marketplace like any other and word gets around. That's the way it's supposed to work. Word of mouth can be good and it can be bad and you control your own destiny. All you really have online is your good name. Tarnish it and you'll be clawing your way back to respectability for quite some time (unless you come out with another one of those make 25k in one hour while in your skivies headlines I see so often - pure bullshit). NEWSFLASH - NO ONE in the real business world sells this way - they'd be laughed out of the office.

Everything else being equal, I would go for the guy who didn't dirty himself in the first place.

wow! this thread is on the emotional twittering point ;-)
yes... I meant teetering point and tweetering point all the same.

    Here's the thing.
    1) if there is something of value in course to you... buy it
    2) if you get a few good ideas that help you earn more money and actually deliver a return on your investment... buy it
    3) this thread was titled "anyone know Perry Belcher"
my answer is 'not really' but lots of people think they know him by following him or watching is videos.
As anyone in hollywood can attest, what you see is not often what you get "let the buyer beware" as always...

Perry appears to be (APPEARS TO BE) a fast talking salesman / preacher type with something to sell to a given audience.

But... here we sit several hours after his masterful PLF launch and he has still not sold out!
I can still buy each one of the 3 product levels...

what does that tell you about the power of a 130,000 strong list of people that follow you via SM? When it comes down to the wire... 250 Customers is less than .2%
and Perry has not been able to close 250 sales for either his mastermind or his coaching club...

that should tell you something compared with unreal online conversion successes by Frank Kern, John Reese and co recently in a 24hr period

heck, if Perry's coaching did not yet sell out completely already... something was either wrong with the pitch or the 10,000 people on the webinar were leaches

I did mention earlier the word 'preacher' and in many ways, especially linguistically, Perry comes across as a man with a mission and that mission is to spread the word and the word is buy stuff from me and I mean like today, not tomorrow because there is scarcity and seriously limited resources and no one wants to work hard for their money anymore so WE DO IT ALL FOR YOU.... hmmm ... for a moment, that sounded a lot like Jeff Johnson!

Anyhow, enjoy the free videos folks... they are a hoot.
Use the info and TEST TEST TEST... then I'll see ya'll back at the stompernet water cooler for some more of the same

Good luck to those that are brave or wealthy enough to step into Perry's pool - I'd love to hear about the experience and hope it helps you to achieve one of your goals this month... or next... cause there is a 60 day money back guarantee and... just a sec...

with a 60 day guarantee, this should be a no brainer folks... why haven't you bought Perry's course yet? heck there are only 250 seats and most are probably already gone by now

ok... here is an update on the 24th July at 4am EDT and the numbers are the same as they were at 6pm!

and the scarcity tactic rears its head again but WITH THE SAME NUMBERS AS 8hrs ago!
"I'm only allowing 1000 people to have access to this
    training:

250 at the MASTERMIND level -----------> around 14 spots open
250 at the SUCCESS COACHING level ----> around 29 spots open

500 at the MULTIMEDIA TRAINING level ----> 72 spots available

If you want to be 1 of the 14 people left who get it DONE for THEM
you better cross your fingers and act now:"

If there were a lot of people on the webinar is was probably because, as John Reese once said, if you offer a big enough commission anyone will pimp it.

I'll tell you this, and my office has previously corresponded with the authorities who prosecuted Belcher, there is no way I'd pay a dime for this thing. Just my personal opinion. It's your money.

But, maybe that criminal angle has an appeal for getting 'followers.' Someone was just telling me that convicted murderer Scott Peterson gets more fan mail than most Hollywood celebrities.

I bought Perry's "Make Money With Google" (or something like that). Even though the buying syphon left me feeling a little used and cheated, the product itself proved really valuable for me and was great for furthering my online marketing education at the time.

I wouldn't recommend this particular product to advanced/experienced internet marketers, but it's great for building your base knowledge, which seems to be the case for most products that he's producing.

I find his marketing methods are pretty normal (as opposed to being spammy, pushy or downright offensive) for the internet marketing niche and I've only experienced his content (free and not) to be above average.

As mentioned I commented on Perrys block.
I had a look at it today.
There are no new comments after the 20th of June and mine still awaiting moderation.
    Just out of curiosity:
could someone please check at Perry Belchers Original Post whether that is a general policy or just shown to me.

You know what - I'm going to be the brave one here and admit that I have purchased this product. I actually jumped in after the webinar the other night and grabbed just the multi-media option. I'm not regretting this move in the least (yet) and here's why:

I've launched and offline IM/SEO/SEM consulting business in which I proclaim to know a lot about social media when I know for a fact that I have only scratched the surface. I don't understand Facebook at all. It baffles me. I know that 99% of the people that are marketing on Twitter are doing it wrong because I watch the tweets on my tweetdeck roll by and they're all obnoxious sales pitches. I blog and dabble with YouTube but there are ways to leverage all of these and, frankly, I'd rather have someone hand me the keys to the kingdom over 6 weeks for $1k than do it trial and error for the next year when I could have been earning money.

Do I think the price tag was too high? You bet. I'd be much more comfortable at about 1/2 that price but, at the same time, I have a comfort level that this is giong to pay off for me in the form of the results I can offer clients that others can't. I haven't seen this sort of in-depth social media training available for free or otherwise anywhere else. I know everyone says that you can get any info. on IM you want for free and that may be true, if you have unlimited time and resources to search and scrounge. I don't.

And if this is crap (don't think it will be), I'm not a doormat and will have no qualms about letting Perry & Co. know what I think.

In any case the Webinar Perry Belcher presented the night before his launch was one of the best overviews I got about socialmedia. Now that the launch is almost over it can be seen in a replay:
    Perry Belcher PreLaunch Webinar.
It lasts more than one hour but it is absolutely worth it.
We all agree that Perry Belcher is one of the leading experts when it comes to social media. So to watch this webinar is absolutely worth it.
He claims it will be up for 48 hours only. Copuld be a marketing trick again.

    watch Perry's video @ 10:43

The Guy Repeats exactly what Gary Vaynerchuk said at the WEB 2.0 COnference in NY
Just fast forward the video I posted in a post above to 04:40 and you will see.

Or go to this very specific video on his blog where he lays down the concept of Legacy on Web 2.0

    http://garyvaynerchuk.com/post/78887...-than-currency

So my point is that there are o lot of better places to learn about WEB 2.0 and Social Media for waaaaaaaaaaaaaay less and also get a better understanding of the new tools.

    just my 2 cents

When I started this thread a few weeks ago I knew it would bring a big response. I also knew we would see a whole load of mixed comments, some of which are on target, some of which almost seem like a witch hunt.

I'd never heard of Perry Belcher before I got the email promoting his Twitter course. The reason I mentioned him was because of a link he was giving reference to in his pdf.

I was much more interested in the information that came from the link! In fact, it led to a product I've been looking to buy.

Belcher is without a doubt a good marketer. He follows the basic rules to the letter. His pre promotion, videos, emails, webanars and partners are all good quality.

And what he said about twitter was bang on, no doubts. Whether he learnt the twitter stuff himself, or replicated it from someone else really makes little difference. He knows how to market, and that is something most people get wrong.

As for his past and the methods he used to get sales: I think it is inexcusable. I think he did wrong and he should have been punished, and I'm glad he did get punished.

If he was selling ebooks on how to catch more fish, and it turned out to be bollocks, then I'd hate what he did a lot less. But to get involved with products that humans have to digest, ingest, apply to body, then he was a stupid person. That to me is selling your soul to the devil - - for cheap.

But he has been punished. The law, his community, fellow business people, warriors, his wallet, and uncle Tomm Cobley and all have had their 2 cents worth of flesh from Belcher, so I think we should leave that alone and judge him for now.

We should focus more on what he does now and always keep it in the back of our mind that he's good, but maybe too good. That way you can make a better decision on whether he's offering you value with his products. And the only warriors who can help us there with the truth are the people that took the risk and bought the course.

Personally I thing the course will do exactly what he says it can do.

And in the right hands I'm sure it'll prove super successful. Do I think it's expensive? I do in deed, and I would agree that you can get the same stuff for a lot less if you hunt around and purchase different information from different people.

Some people want it all NOW, and they want it made easy. The videos are a plus. That's probably the real reason it is the best of what is about at the moment.

I would advise all beginners to follow the free videos, ebook and sales copy. He's a great test to watch for a business model, and it might be worth joining his mailing lists. I think a lot of people looking for success could learn some basic marketeering ideas from him.

But don't spend money, and don't take a foolish step without checking him out (as you should with every product/person). The warrior forum is the gold mine of providing the whole truth, and that is what you should do first.

I'm glad I've heard about him and I will be following him for sure.

I do think he's worth watching. A lot of top dogs are helping him with this, and not every super affiliate and professional marketers has done a pact with the devil. And loads of the big boys have been plugging and recommending and promoting him.

I did not buy the course (and did not intend to) and I think he could have sold it at a more realistic price. But I wish him well as I do with every honest IM-er

I hope some of the people who bought his course are willing to share their recommendations and successes. That'll answer us all.

Great thread! Thank you all for your input. I appreciate the time taken.

    Sincerely,
    John

Sure it makes a difference. If he "replicated" it, then he must know it doesn't work, he basically admits this himself right in his title (note the qualifier "finally"). This is further verified by the fact that there is no "new" content in what he stated (at least not in the 1 hour I listened to, on strategies he presented for free..), it's the same old stuff (anyone who thinks this stuff is new, is new..EOS), but when you look at the metrics (and the beautiful part is now youtube, displays the top 10 sources for video views), the reality changes, and the "truth" changes "reality"...weird

He appears no better at the twitter angle. What I pasted below are the metrics from a picture view from a yfrog link to a photo (as of todays date) that he tweeted on June 28, 2009, the amount of people that viewed that photo is well below the 100K plus followers he has (don't think there is going to be an "upsurge", and only the future pic links may have raised that to an artificial 329 views). That includes the 10 views I put in just to see if the same IP limited the counter to just one view (it did NOT).

      perrybelcher uploaded at 2009-06-27

How is it, that the only "verifiable" metrics don't show an astounding twitter popularity? Think about that.

Maybe he is a master of facebook....according to his video, maybe not

      H Dec 22, 2008 First referral from Facebook - 195

195 views in 7 months 4 days... not very stellar...he has about 4K "friends"...and a shitload of accounts with 10's of followers (not even hundreds...his ????students????).

As to his analogy about people being his twitter friend (because of personality) is bang off. Twitter is a numbers game, everyone is trying to get to the top, they will follow (simply to keep you as a follower....the first rule of twitter marketing, don't tell anyone that the numbers don't mean a damn thing...bang on!), and that's the bottom line (proven so by the amount of people who even cares about what he tweets...guess his popularity isn't what he claims...big surprise there). It's all a numbers game, and the bigger the look, the better the guruosity. Now what is he selling.....oh yeah, his "expertease".

As to "selmedica" that was a nothing company that he himself grew into a huge conglomerate after the fact. Why? Quite simply, have 100 complaints of 1000 or so supposed customers, well that's bad. Have 100 complaints of 900,000 customers (or whatever that number is this week...funny thing is the alexa metrics for selmedica.com were never stellar...weird), it's good. The numbers were only used to prove his guruosity. People are going to like him or hate him regardless, so skew the numbers for better odds and the people that like you think you're brilliant and the ones that don't, at least don't think you are as bad....hmmm.... he claims $50 (or $100) odd million in sales for his "placebos"

"The Sheriff's Department said the $1.2 million Belcher made through his multiple online businesses is through illegal deceptive means."

New math question...how many times does $1.2 have to be exaggerated to become $50-100 million? Cops that understate crime? What reality have I entered into here? I feel like I am that guy from "who's eating gilberts grapes" (you know the retarded leonardo decrapio character). Mama....mama.....wake up!!!!

Its called Collective Intelligence or "We are Smarter than Me"

To stay on topic here, I really do think that Perry's material is not worth the price tag unless you have lots of money and zero time. His stuff (from the webcast I watched ) is far from unique.

I do a read a lot on Social Media and never heard about Belcher's contributions to the field..

But you dont have to take my word on it.

Read from INVESP a top consulting group on e-commerce their take on top IM people in 2008

      The INVESP 100

Most Influential Online Marketers of 2008

This is our first annual list of the world's most influential online marketers: leaders, thinkers:

Take your time and work the list one person at the time and you'll become a much better "Social Media" expert than getting some get rich/popular/followers quick shortcut scheme.

      All the Best

        Hi,

        Thanks for interesting post.

But I have some doubts about this "top marketers list" and Conversion Rate Optimization | Invesp Consulting itself.
Question no1: what is their definition of "influential marketer"?
Quiestion no2: What sort of individual thought patterns led them to place someone like F. Kern on position 45 and ie. Aaron Wall (no disrespect to Aaron - he's cool and surely infuential) on position no 7? It is beyond me.

Please don't feel offended but this list and whole investp, or whatever (with their alexa circa 50 000 rank) don't mean much to me.

        Best

        JJ

PS. I don't thing Belcher is anywhere near the top though - far from that. But it doesn't mean this whole list makes any sense

I listened to S. Godin's videos and I couln't agree more. I felt somehow guilty about the facebook - that I'm not "using it to my advantage", but for some reason all this software for harvesting "friends" didn't sit well with me at all. I personally do't like twitter at all - as it reminds me of a huge trashbin, where everyone talks about nothing (or nearly everyone). It's the same thing with IM - I never god sold on the idea of selling just anything, making these direct linking campaigns using only an indicator of how much money I'll do, and what gravity it is, what comission etc. Because - and it applies to everything - if you'll become very effective in selling a lot of stuff, then what if what you're selling is not doing any good? Or maybe even doing some harm to people? Tricking them to waste their money for something completely useless only because you're very good at writing copy, or good at sucking them in through social media? You do a campaign because it's "profitable" in the clickbank stats, and GCD or whatever says they sell a lot of it. And you got all this thousands of people on your list on twitter, facebook, mailing lists etc etc - and you sell crap to them all. Not for me

I know I probably went to far - it's because the word "decency". I don't like the way Belcher is using social media. The only indicator how effective it is is how many dollars you do per user per month.
