Help!! Should I Choose GoDaddy or Hostgator for Hosting

I need some fellow warriors' advice on hosting.

I've been using hostgator's reseller's package for about $25 a month, but upon checking godaddy's premium linux plan for $15, it looks to be a better deal.

Hostgator's been a little spotty for me as far as uptime lately, and i've never had a problem with godaddy.

Anyone have any advice on this one, or can anyone suggest any alternate hosting companies that allow unlimited hosting of sites, near perfect uptime, and free add ons like wordpress?

GoDaddy servers are SO locked down it makes them difficult to use. Scripts can't be installed, certain functions dont work....avoid the hassle.

      I would recommend neither.

Godaddy has traditionally had a low artificial limit on simultaneous connections... as low at 51 simultaneous connections and your server is not available to your visitors.

      Always read the fine print.

Out of these two I would definitely recommend HostGator.

However I found support from the UK difficult, as the freefone number is unusable. If you're in The US, Canada it's fine.

I switched to JustHost, simply because support is easy and free for UK users. I've had no problems in 6 months.

Some scripts with heavy databases does not work on godaddy. Check with their support.
Godaddy is good for domain management while hostgator is ok for hosting.

I think Godaddy is WAY to controversial! They bomb you with promo's and s**t.

I personally use hostgator, and i'm incredibly satisfied.
Their support will blow your mind, and the prices are good. Not to mention it's safe.
They really know how to take care of their customers as far as I can see.

The interface of GoDaddy should be enough to steer you clear. Way too much stuff going on. Who has time to dig for every single action you want to perform. Two thumbs down on the GoDaddy is my vote.

Wow, I think you have a clear answer and I agree with everyone here.

I have a Godaddy account I use for testing php scripts. Scripts that work on all cpanel type web hosts work fine, but many won't work on Godaddy.

Plus, the non-standard Godaddy hosting management interface is slow and not intuitive.

I have been with Hostgator for a few years and have had very few problems with them, and no down time.

        Go HostGator without a doubt.

I wouldn't host with a domain registrar, and I wouldn't register domains with a hosting company.

    Don't use GoDaddy for hosting.

I have a couple of my original sites hosted with GoDaddy and hate having to go in to make web site changes. The hosting is slow and everything takes a million clicks to do.

I have never used hostgator but would choose them over GoDaddy any day.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[91543].message }}
    • Actually I do use namecheap's hosting - and because it is a separate account in a weird sort of way, there's no confusion if you cancel hosting... You keep all your domains.

I'm quite happy. Other than PayPal billing being manual instead of a subscription, but that is no big deal. They email you an invoice, you pay, end of story.

Great support, great price, great package... I'm happy. I'd encourage you to check it out.

I have hosting accounts on both.

GoDaddy is 'OK' but it has some limitations and quirks that a regular cPanel hosting arrangement doesn't have. I've got about a dozen WP blogs and some static sites there. I haven't had any significant downtime problems from them. The annoying parts are that some scripts don't work, updating some things, like WP permalinks, takes up to 30 minutes to work and the excessive advertising. I've kept their hosting plan just to have my hosting spread out but I'd probably go with a cPanel based host if I was starting out from scratch.

Host Gator has been excellent for me so far. Great support, no downtime. I recommend them.

I certainly would not use GoDaddy's servers which have not beed updated since 2001. They are slow, crappy, and not very secure. One of the worst hosting companies on the net.

      Go with a proven leader, hostgator.com ...

Kick GoDaddy to the curb. A nightmare to navigate and the barrage of promos is ridiculous.

For what it's worth I use Bluehost for hosting and have been very pleased with the support and right on down the line from there has been exceptional as well.

You can find plenty of blasts on here about GoDaddy so I wouldn't even consider them at all if I were looking for a hosting company.

I currently have my websites on DreamHost but I will soon transfer all my projects to Hostgator - they are just better than the rest imho. GoDaddy might be the biggest domain name seller in the world but their hosting is not at such a high level and furthermore the support they offer can sometimes be annoying and even useless.

I will go with Hostgator on this one.

We are on the same boat. I stopped buying domains from Godaddy and now using NameCheap, nice and clean

For hosting, I have using Hostgator for almost 2 years now and I can say they are the best. Excellent support.

I've used both in the past too and I also preferred Hostgator. I found it pretty simple to use although I did have a few problems with the server speed. Sometimes pages would load in a split second, sometimes they'd take 5+ seconds.

Also, I second the previous post about Hostgator's customer service. I've chatted to them on the phone and they have the livechat and I've always found them really helpful. Godaddy seem to make it a bit harder.

Seriously, do yourself a HUGE favor and don't host your site with GoDaddy.

    Don't even register domains there.

Avoiding them like the plague now will save you a lot of frustration in the future.

    Hostgator all the way...

    ...and Namecheap for domain names.

I use godaddy and always have problems with my hosting. But, even though that's a true pain, the real problem is whenever you call about their service not working they always try to blame wordpress or your designer.

I absolutely love and adore hostgator as do many other marketers I know of. GoDaddy is pretty good at what they do as well but hostgator seems so much more simple and easy to navigate. GoDaddy is kind of like an information overload type of deal flooded with all of these upsells that you don't need.
