Who uses BlueHost? Can you recommend?

I'm looking to switch my Hosting and wondered if anyone has any experience with BlueHost (good or bad) they want to share.

Thanks,

Mike Hill

Yes, they have been great to me over the years.

They also have 24 hour INSTANT support via a chat service, highly recommended

  • I like Bluehost very much, but the server tends to go down at about 2:00 in the afternoon, EST, which is not good for business. They're getting better at keeping things together, though.

Their phone support is great -- you get a real human being in the U.S. who helps you solve any problem.

I like the thought of talking to a live human being... Over the last few months my current hosting has been so unreliable. I have tried to stick things out but man what can I say, I am loyal but this is beyond acceptable IMHO.

PS. I'm trying to figure out why these guys are so cheap?

I use bluehost and have never had a problem. Great support and almost immediate response to any questions. Only thing i don't like is no reseller accounts. Other than that they have been great.

I've used Bluehost since fall of '07 and I haven't had an issue!

I also haven't experienced the server going down at 2 pm... *shrugs*

BlueHost was the hosting providers I used on my first ever site (they broke my hosting cherry) so there will always be a special place in my heart for BH.

I'm with LunarPages, HawkHost and something else now tho.

    Cheers,

    -Aidan.

Blue host is a good place to stay away from. It is true their tech support is in the USA (Utah)

Without going into great detail there are huge security holes in their system.

Once someone comes into your site through their security holes, its your problem not theirs.

To Quote the owner Matt Heaton, "We are only responsible for our servers, if our servers are up and working, we have completed our job. Everything else is the responsibility of the customer as far a security and protecting their sites from attacks and Trojans"

My advice is to Stay Away.

I have loved bluehost since I started two years ago. Another great host for the money (and a little cheaper than bluehost) is HostMonster.

I still have not tried hostgator, but I am sure I will in the future.

I switched my hosting from 1 and 1 to Bluehost last year. Unlimited hosting a money saver and a simple control panel with everything you need. The only time I required support I managed to get to them by phone in minutes.

I also use Hostmonster - which is somehow affiliated under or with BlueHost (I suspect they're one and the same) and think it does ok. I also use Downtownhost and lunarpages with no problems although I don't think they have 24/7 support.

Make sure to get a discount before buying.

I use Bluehost and have done so for about 1 year. I have no complaint whatsoever. I've read a few people complain about the support desk (or lack thereof), but the times I've used it I've had replies within 24 hours. I can only give it my highest recommendation for cheap, easy hosting

I also use Bluehost and LOVE them. Very easy to use. I have a bunch of sites with them and initially joined for the push button wordpress install but found their c-panel very easy to work with.

I also just signed up with Hostgator so as not to put all of my eggs in one basket. I plan to use both but still like Bluehost better.

Other than fly-by-night hosts (and there's only been a couple) the ONLY host that I've had problems with when helping customers w/ installing my plugin has been Bluehost. Permissions, goofy way of dealing with ionCube, etc. I don't know why they configure their boxes so funny, but I haven't been laughing.

I've had a Bluehost account for about 4 years now. During the first 2 or 3 years of my account, they had 24/7 telephone tech support line. At that time I found the tech support friendly and competent. Not that I required lots of tech support, but on the few occasions where it was necessary, it was more than adequate. Since then, Bluehost has moved away from telephone access to email support, which I find less satisfactory. Not horrible, just mediocre. About a month ago I needed to have ioncube turned on for my domain. The php config tool wasn't working, and it took about 3 days to finally get that resolved. Perhaps I just had bad luck with the particular tech staff handling my request. But that was a simple problem to resolve a function that already supposed to be working. What would happen with a more complicated problem? My advice, use Hostgator or Hostingzoom/Resellerzoom. Or, find a local hosting provider who would allow you 24/7 telephone access.

    Just gone to bluehost myself.

I took the unlimited plan. Very well priced and I have to say the support is very good. The instant live call is a winner.

Not been with them long enough to add any real input, but so far all is excellent. Not keen to hear about the down time mentioned by one warrior? That can't be good. Although no one else has noticed a problem?

I can say I did my research before I spent my money.

For me bluehost and hostgator came out on top.
I took bluehost in the end because for blogs (WP), bluehost was getting the best feedback.

Not having a reseller account on bluehost is a minor point, but silly they don't really, but hostgator do, so that would be your option.

bluehost was a dollar a month cheaper if it matters to you. I will also mention that payment is 12 months up front. But for less than 100 dollars a year, I think it's a great choice.

Wishing you great results and hoping you make the best choice for you.
    Sincerely,
    John

I started with a really cheap webhost at first. They did fine, but when it came time to renew, no way to locate them or call them.

Then I switched to another one, who freaked out about my use of dadamail bogging down their servers.

Then I switched to BlueHost, upgraded to a separate IP, and paid the extra amount, and now I can e-mail 500 e-mails per hour.

I've never had to wait more than twenty minutes to contact them when I had a problem.

They have everything that you could want, and now even host Dadamail in their simple scripts.

Tough to beat, unless you need a reseller account.

    Make it a great day!

I signed up with BlueHost about 2 weeks ago when they were running a special of full hosting for $3.95 per month (includes domain).

It is good to read all the positives regarding bluehost in this thread. But before I had signed up with them I had done a lot of research and did not find anything negative about them.

Bluehost is a good webhost, but don't use it if you plan on running a forum or anything that would consist of a large file count. Such as a photo gallery or large database of files. File Storage Size they don't care about, but the quantity/amount of files they do.
