I am with hostgator after trying several other webhosts and I am quite happy this is the first time I have heard of kiosk.

The other host I recommend is bluehost the only reason I prefer hostgator is because they do reseller packages

      Hope this helps

I add my vote for Hostgator. I have used them for a couple of years and have a reseller account.

Register domain names with Godaddy and host at Hostgator.

I also second a negative vote for 1and1. IT SUCKS!!! I was a user before switching to Hostgator.

I've used Hostgator, but found their customer service to be horrible when i needed help. When they are up, it's fantastic. I was using Bluehost.com for a while to. Great package, fantastic support, but I got a lot of hackers hitting my site. I also used 1and1 (have 74 domain names with them) but I find that they are getting worse every month, so I'm slowly moving away from them.
In my honest opinion, if you can afford it, go with your own virtual server. They are much cheaper now, and you have more control and security with it, rather than a shared environment. I am using eboundhost.com for a few of my sites.

    Cheers

HostGator offers a lot more than most, and they are reliable.

Another good tactic is to put a site up on ByetHost. This is the absolute best free hosting I have found. No ads, free Wordpress, and tons of tools. The only drawback is no SMTP. You can get around this with Gmail and Imap.

I've had a site with ByetHost for 2 years, and not one hitch.

kiosk.ws is used by major marketers. It is located at kiosk.ws
They have a variety of plans but you can test drive it for a buck. The domains are expensive to buy through them ($14.95) but you can buy them somewhere else and just point the nameserver. It's easy to do on godaddy, that's what I have been doing lately. The Hosting is a good deal though if you plan to put up alot of sites. It can add up quickly if you are paying by site. At kiosk you can get a major reseller site for a great yearly or monthly plan.

I have had kiosk since last October. The support is super fast and if you don't get the answer you are looking for, Joel will actually write to you himself. Plus they put on a totally silly blog, driving hummers into the creek etc. Joel Therien's Blog
They just sit there and yak, it's hilarious.

They also have IM interests so like the other poster says they know what it takes to get it done. If they have any issues they are totally upfront with it, they show videos on their blog about what was going on etc.

If you like to go with the crowd, go with hostgator. If you want a personal experience on a great reliable service, use kiosk.ws (not an affiliate link but I have one if you want it. LOL )

    Anyways, that's my two cents.

I used kiosk for over 2 years. Had the platinum plus account @$49.95 per month. But, hardly used the capability of the account. I have only about a dozen websites and just didn't need a high powered kiosk account.

In the last 6 months I have switched to a hostgator business account which costs $14.95 per month. I find that Hostgator is really good and perfectly meets what I need from hosting but at a much cheaper cost compared to Kiosk.

I read that Kiosk is much easier to deal with regarding problems like somebody making a spam complaint even after they double-opted-in, and how other hosts will just yank your site & ask questions later, but Kiosk will work with you since they know the IM world.

Do you know anything about this aspect of it?

Hostgator also has something else that they recently added to their reseller accounts: unique templates. The only requirement is, the site designed by them must be hosted on a Hostgator server. This might make a huge productivity difference for some people. Login to CPanel, scroll down to where the Fantastico link is and look for it; it's either right next to it or nearby. There seems to be tons of site designs for all different types of sites, all yours for the taking. The quality of the designs were stunning to me.

I have a reseller account; don't know if these are available on the plans that are not reseller.

Also, in addition to chat support, they offer phone support. So you can phone them, email them, chat with them, whatever works best for you. Very responsive and knowledgeable in all the cases I've used them, which were over questions and how-to's, not support issues such as broken sites or things wrong.

Well Hostgator didn't last long for me. They refunded my money about 1 hour after I signed-up. They said it's due to my site is roboticforex.com and "forex violates our TOS." When I called & asked what exactly did they mean by "forex", the kid couldn't say - he just read from the rulebook. "No forex or other ponzi schemes."

When I told him I sell automated forex trading software that I wrote myself via my website and it wasn't anything fishy or scammy, he said oh ok, they'd let me host with them after all & said I should just log back in & pay the new bill. Crazy.

Having no idea what they even meant by "no forex" (and since the boy I spoke with there also had no clue) I decided I'd best host elsewhere -otherwise it seems they could suddenly decide to blacklist me again for their mysterious "no forex" policy and they could shut down my site at any time.

So I'm trying kiosk.ws for their 30-day $1 trial. We'll see how that goes. As I said, PowerDNN wasn't bad - quite excellent, in fact. I just don't like DotNetNuke. Otherwise, I'd have stayed with them. Though they are a bit pricey. $20/mo for just one domain, no frills at all. Very basic hosting. But blazing fast website performance and top-notch support.

Well, based on what I've seen so far with kiosk.ws, they are far far superior. So far. Of course, it's only been a few hours. But they have a real-time chat room with SOUND (and typing also) where you ask a question & support sits there & talks to you in a virtual conference room in realtime.

It's wonderful. They talk you through moving your DNS servers, setting up your cPanel, Fantastico, website - everything. So far, so good.

I forgot to mention: I asked the kiosk.ws guy about hostgator's "no forex" policy & the guy was like "Whaaa? what r u talking about? Of course you can sell your software here. Why not?"

And I just found out: you can have only 4 domains at kiosk for the minimum-price account ($18.95/mo) whereas hostgator allows unlimited domains for $7.95/mo - so that's a major drawback. On the positive side, each domain at kiosk has its own cPanel! They're not just "add-on" domains like hostgator. Which is nice, I guess.

I've been with Kiosk for 1 3/4 year now and, so far, I've seen no reason to leave them.

I think my lack of experience in having to change from hosting company to hosting company, like many of the earlier posters in this thread seem to have done, also should tell something about the hosting company I'm with.

As for HostGator; I have no experience with them. They might be a very good company for all I know.

They're totally different in one respects: Hostgator is a cheaper because you pay for hosting only. Kiosk, on the other hand costs more because you get hosting plus a forced matrix MLM plan builtin into the cost. Otherwise, they're both good hosting choices.

This is an interesting observation. I have no opinion as I'm a total newbie to IM & pretty new to webhosting also. I never really had reason to think much about hosting until I discovered IM with its mailing lists, potential for spam complaints & concomitant risk of having your website(s) summarily executed by your own webhost based only on mere suspicion.

Or they take you down because you have a sudden dramatic spike in traffic after a hugely successful product launch (something I'm hoping happens soon with my software.)

These are obviously very serious issues if you start making real money with a website. It goes way beyond cost & uptime & speed of the servers - it goes to the heart of "what is the nature of IM and how is IM different from a "normal" website and does your hosting company understand *successful* IM activity (e.g. mass emails, sudden traffic spikes, etc.)

It appears that kiosk understands and supports successful IM and it appears that hostgator may not - based on my experience with merely signing up with them and having the "wrong" domain name.

And regarding traffic spikes etc, this guy's experience is exactly what I'm suspicious of when it comes to cheap providers like hostgator (I can't post links til I have 15 posts, but it is exactly what I fear with hostgator down the road if I host with them):

      (remove spaces)
      webhostingtalk com showthread.php?
      s=7e6563f23f1a6de
      fa313510692c60ff8&
      t=876857

But this idea that kios's MLM scheme somehow adds to their monthly cost (and the seeming hint that since it's MLM it must be "bad" - at least, that's what came to MY mind when you said that) - makes me pause.

So I just emailed kiosk and asked them their comments on the idea that their MLM model adds to monthly cost.

I'll let you all know what they say.

I suppose that's true. And if they ever did shut down your site(s) for a spam complaint (even from a double-opted-in prospect who'd forgotten they'd double-opted-in), or because you had a successful product launch and you had a sudden surge in traffic let's say, then you could just move on to a new hosting company & call it lesson learned.

It seems to me as if there is a difference in the basic concept of the two.

Host Gator seems to be a cheaper and more generic hosting company that is great for 80% of the people simply looking for web hosting. But it may be of lessor value to the person interested in IM and the long term aspects of such.

While Kiosk is more specialized into the IM aspect. While it seems to be a more costly alternative initially, it will be worth the extra few dollars in the future if you are primarily into IM and the specific issues that are involved with it.

If it is your income that is at stake...
Can you afford the cheapest hosting?

      Hello Warriors,

At the end of the day hosting plain and simple is a commodity. You can always find someone to do it cheaper... my recommendation is if your just looking for hosting for a few sites than hostgator probably makes the most sense.

With that being said if you're an IM'er or plan on being a reseller than hands down Kiosk which is now GVO is the way to go. As previously mentioned Kiosk/GVO is run by Internet Marketers for Internet Marketers. It's not just Filsaime who has been a customer for years but almost of the top guys...Frank Kern, Daegan Smith, Stephen Pierce, Todd Gross, Tellman Knudsen, Ewen Chia, and the list goes on. Do you really think guys like that would trust their business to to this company if they didn't provide a great service.

I hope this is helpful... I'm also posting their hosting features below.

Although this is not directly related to either HostGator OR Kiosk, I feel compelled to comment for those who mentioned they have 1and1.com.

I previously used 1and1.com for domains. Great pricing and all, but I had the following problem with them, and at the time it caught me unaware and was a nightmare, albeit a temporary nightmare.

I had one account with multiple domains in them. One domain came up for renewal, and at the time my credit card had expired. Their policy is, all domains autorenew unless you specifically notify them you do not want to renew in advance. And my card, being expired, did not clear. So they froze my account. NOT the DOMAIN that was due for renewal, but THE ENTIRE ACCOUNT! At the time I needed to make changes to a domain that was not due for another six or seven months. This means you cannot even transfer out domains that are not up for renewal yet.

And the thing is, once they freeze your account, getting it unfrozen once you give them updated credit card details is NOT automatic. As a matter of fact, it took 3 days before I could access any of the domains AFTER I provided the updated credit card details.

The reason this bothers me is that every other domain registrar I have ever been with has a per-domain policy and doesn't freeze the entire account for not renewing a single domain.

Another thing. They don't just hit you with the cost of renewing the domain if your card details are no longer any good. They also charge an additional fee that is 2 times the cost of renewing the domain PLUS the domain renewal charge, and this is even if you are only 1 day late with providing updated billing details.

Needless to say, after paying the renewal and all related charges I transfered all the domains out to leave them as soon as I could.

Kiosk should close down for shame of being the most problematic, joker host I've used in my entire life. This was back in 2008.

They were going down like crazy. And server load is consistently ridiculously high that your sites will load painstakingly SLOW (loosing most of your visitors).

This went on for 1 whole year. Infact the situation and my opinion of them is far less then words can possibly describe. Doubt anything is different now in 2010, knowing how hosts work.

Only reason why I went with them was a famous internet marketer recommended them.

    --

Hostgator gets 10/10. Their servers are configured to allow X% of nodes/resources per account. So you'll never find yourself on a server whereby it's slow/downed due to another abuser or busy website on that server.

I've used Kiosk and hostGator both, reseller accounts on both.

I will be the first to admit that Kiosk and I have had some seriously harsh words from time to time - BUT the move to the new data centers has gotten rid of the server issues - and there aren't many companies where the CEO takes the time to call you and discuss the problems.

To compare today's Kiosk with 2008 is really not fair. If you are a serious IMer, and run a lot of sites, handle your own mailing lists, etc (which I do) - I don't think you will find a better company out there. They really do understand what we do, and the issues that can arise. Support is fabulous, and there are a lot of new features coming in that you won't find elsewhere.

I've tried HG more than once, and I think they are okay if you are running small sites with low traffic loads - but when I used their reseller account they were not using WHM for the control panel, which I really like, and Kiosk uses.

In 2008 - I would not have recommended Kiosk - today, it's a very different situation.

Best is Hostgator. I have tried other hosting, but hostgator is the best.

i started this thread before kiosk turned into an MLM style company - GVO. i am a member of GVO now and i would like to say that its actually really good. Unlimited Hosting, Unlimited Autoresponder, Free Video Hosting, and a lot of other features. its a one stop shop for a lot of marketers needs.

I use Kiosk (GVO), as this is very, very powerful hosting with all other tools.

Kiosk offers hosting, autoresponder (up to 25 000 subscribers), video recording, Webcast tool and more. You just get complete IM package with one provider and all for 44,95.

Think for a moment. How much you will need to pay for Aweber (25 000 subscribers), Hostgator and Gotomeeting?

Kiosk is the best option for IM.

I'm closing this thread as everything has been said and it keeps being targeted by people trying to pimp their signature files.
