Domain and Web Hosting discussion

Hi everyone, I own two domain and rent a web hosting and would like to discuss with you guys about domain and web hosting, share our experience.

I started with godaddy and it was ok. I just bought few domain with godaddy without hostage, then one of my forum got some regular visitors then I started to think about web hosting. I finally picked namecheap and transferred my domains to there too. It is 2 years something now, so far so good. The support service of namecheap to help me transfer from hosting website at home to their hosting is pretty good.

I recently renew the web hosting plan, and I looked up other place like Godaddy, HostGator, BlueHost. They have different approach comparing to 2 years ago, it is either just 1 domain cheaper plan or unlimited domains much more expensive plan. My current namecheap plan is 5 domains with around $37 US dollars per year which is not available anymore. For me just want to test out different .com ideas and see if anyone works then $37 per year is a good price since I would use around 2 to 5 domains at once but never more than 5 domains. All choices with unlimited domains is around $70 US dollars per year, it is around double of what I pay now but I don't need that many domains allowance.

So how are your guys experience? In term of price, support service, control interface, hardware/network speed/bandwidth...

I used Bluehost.com before. Nice live support and hosting. For $3.95/month, you can host unlimited websites too so it's really worth it.

      3.95 is only one website.

Sorry, they have updated their plan. You need to grab the Plus plan to host unlimited websites (starts at 5.95/months for 36 months). Hawkhost seems to be famous as well but i don't think they have live support. They allow you to host unlimited domains. There's an offer now - $2.47/m for the basic plan.

Without live support is pretty bad..I think live support is the main cost for a hostage company, should be more expensive than their hardware...

Wow how many people read your blog in a month? Just generate that $100 per month is better than more than 99% people making websites.

If you are happy with Namecheap I suggest you stay with them. However if you want to move check out StableHost and HawkHost. They are reliable like Namecheap and have plans less than $50/year.

For $38 a year you can host 3 websites with Namecheap. Stablehost is more expensive but good. If you are just testing things out then do you really need 5 websites especially since you say you'll use 2-5 but no more than 5? Could 3 work?

Got to ask how much longer you are going to play around and see if anything works? If you've already been testing for 2 years and still don't know the direction you want to go, then maybe you don't need hosting - especially since you seem concerned about the costs.

My point isn't to be negative but to say that I've been there and done that and it's no fun to realize later how much money and time has been wasted testing things out. It wasn't until I got serious about this stuff that I started to make progress.

Thanks for sharing. I have a forum that has been around 7 years, it gave me not bad profit and it is still going on, so the hosting so far worth it just for this forum. I did do the electronic cost math and it is much cheaper to use a shared hostage plan than I turn on my desktop 24 hours a day, and it is much more stable. Current I am having an older plan with namecheap, 5 domains instead of 3 and 25GB space instead of 20GB with around $10 more per year, I am fine with $10 more per year.
I am trying this as well and talk about it in my another post:

Used to use GoDaddy + HostGator but now stick with BlueHost, can't go wrong with them in my opinion, especially if your new or on a budget.

I even recorded a tutorial on setting up Wordpress with BlueHost.

hostgator is only good if you never contact their support. It takes average 60 hours to get a reply from their support.
