Hostgator Support is Terrible, Been Offline For 2 Weeks Now {Read My Story}

I have been hosting with Hostgator since 2012 but the nasty experience I have got from them recently makes me regret where I signed with them in the first place.

Mid August, I had my sites get a cryptoPhp attack and Hostgator decided to put my hosting account offline until I cleaned them up, something I did in 2 days time max. I contacted them and they promised to work on them. 4 days later, the message was still the same. A week later them same. 10 days... the same, 'Our team is tirelessly working to get your sites online'

Most of my sites have now lost ranking significatly and some de-indexed due to the 403 error they have decided to put on them.

15 days since, I contacted them again for the 100th time and it seems like my ticket to my case has been trashed as the chat attendant couldn't trace it. After 30 mins of trying to trace it, the message was the same, 'Our Linux team is working hard to your case'

Today marks the 16th day since my sites were set offline and what I have for hostgator is total displeasure.

To add salt to injury, they are now invoicing me to pay my hosting for September instead of first getting me into the mess they put me into.

I respect you hostgator and appreciate your tremendous growth but that's not the way to treat your loyal customers.

Well, there's a reason why HostGator pays the highest commissions in the industry for hosting. The cheap option is rarely the best option.

I disagree, Namecheap is cheaper and support is almost instant. I switched from Hostgator recently to Namecheap because of a similar experience to the OP, sites down for days and slow response to tickets.
If you read a lot of hosting reviews on this forum you will notice Namecheap is well respected for it's service, support and pricing, wow I sound like an advert for Namecheap.
I had my sites back up and running with-in 3 hours of changing over and have had no problems since, touch wood.

Unlike most website backdoors, CryptoPHP is not installed by exploiting vulnerabilities. Instead attackers distribute pirated versions of commercial plug-ins and themes for Joomla, WordPress and Drupal through several sites and wait for webmasters to download and install them on their own websites. Those pirated plug-ins and themes have the CryptoPHP backdoor embedded into them.

So you installed a pirated plug-in or theme and expect them to fix things? Best thing to do is cancel your account, get a new account and this time don't install any pirated plug-ins or themes.

Make sure everything you download and install is from trusted sources.

Agreed with the above statement. You simple have to Buy a new hosting and start everything from the scratch.

Yeah, I opened up a Support Ticket just to get access to my username and password which I missplaced.

Took them 6 days to get it to me.

      Miserable Customer Service

Closing the account does it mean losing all the files even for old sites that were not affected or you mean transferring them to the new account?
