      Hello,

I have all of his letters on a CD. It is just a bunch of babbling about stuff overall as far as I am concerned. If I actually paid my hard earned money as a subscriber to his letter I would be Very pissed off.

I think Gary is and was a Great Marketer. I think a lot of his Letters may be available for Free online.

I believe there is something called The Boron Letters that are very interesting from a marketing point of view.

I am keeping this short and sweet. You will soon learn where Gary was when you read The Boron Letters.

I have seen Copies of his newsletter.

He was just an incredibly smart guy who knew how to write Copy that sold millions.

      A good example to emulate

Halbert's material is of little value here in 2015. It was designed for 1980s mail order and was still pretty relevant to the early internet. But you get beyond 2000 and consumer culture has shifted. That's why pretty much all of the big names in mail order failed to do anything online. A few stuck it out and became "gurus" to make ends meet and you'll see their names dropped on this forum sometimes as "internet marketing legends."

Recognising that human psychology is slow to change is one thing most successful marketers acknowledge.

The creation of engaging dialogue between a seller and an buyer is an art form and it doesn't matter whether it is 1800 or 2015 the human psyche is the same.

People who read great copywriters messages whether they be actual ads or personal letters need to grasp the concepts and the content in which they were written.

Anyone can read something and say "that doesn't apply today"....but it takes both intuition and education coupled with creativity to apply what any copywriter wrote at a specific point in time to make it relevant or applicable to your current situation.

There is no cookie cutter approach so don't seek one.

Respect what is gone by honouring and creating something new that builds on what has passed before.

the morons saying that gary's stuff is outdated are the ones constantly running after the new shiny-object hyped up IM course and never making any money.

Sorry, but if you expect everything being served on a silver platter to you you are obviously lacking some basic intelligence.

Gary's "wisdom" is timeless, tried and true and guaranteed to make you a lot of cash if you actually THINK about what you read.

    Here's an example:

One of the very first lessons on his site is about how he tried to make direct response work by following what the gurus were teaching but somehow it never worked out for him (sound familiar?). then one day he decided to use his own brains and create a killer promo based on what he thought would work, not what the gurus were telling him to do.

He decided that creating a letter that looks like an ad will probably not get read as often as a letter that looks personal and a few other things I won't get into right now. The business he created on that day generated many millions of dollars for him and was his first successful endeavor.

How can this be applied today? Have you ever heard of flogs (fake blogs)? Those sites that look like legit articles from authority sites but are in fact just one-page affiliate sales pitches with fake testimonials, promises and fake everything?

The psychology behind flogs is the same as behind Gary's famous a-pile, b-pile "theory", namely that you have to make your ad look valueable and not like just another hyped up sales pitch by another snake oil salesman.

Flogs are one just one way that came to mind. More legit approaches are advertorials, reverse squeeze pages, free webinars, etc.

And this lesson is just from the very first letter!. There are many, many more marketing gems "hidden" withing the garyhalbertletter.

You can read all his letters in chronological order on this site (I don't know the dude running this site):

A marketer that I know used to write his letters out each night so that he got the 'words' into his head. Thought this was a great idea and I think you can find some of his letters free online.

As long as human nature doesn't miraculously change, and it hasn't since time began, basic sales psychology remains the same. If you study history, you will find that fur traders in early America used the same sales techniques as ancient Greek restaurants around the agoras and propaganda sheets issued by the Catholic Church. Selling is selling.

Gary Halbert's work remains as applicable today as it would have in Rome 2,000 years ago and as it will on the Mars or Moon colonies.

In truth, the only things that have changed on the 'net since the 80's are the number of web sites. the number of viewers, the trendy methods of communication, the increased number of ways to make money, Internet communities, and the addition of texting and Twitter speak.

Other than the above, which is all technical, nothing has changed. Humans remain human.
