Hosting Inquiry (Launch and Membership Site)

Hi Warrior,

(I tried to search for an answer using the search button but couldn't find something recent and specific...)

I'm having my first ever product launch...

...and planning to move my sites (one site for the front end product and another is a membership site that would be promoted at the backend).

Questions:
1) Do I need a Dedicated Server or would a VPS do for the launch?

2) What hosting companies would you recommend?

3) Would membership sites (let's say you have 100, 250, 500, or 1000 members) require a Dedicated Hosting? Or would a "shared" or "VPS" hosting do?

I'm sorry if I can't mention any number for the case of "traffic" during launches because I have never done a launch for myself. If you can help me figure it out, that would be awesome as well.

Thanks in advance.

Peace

    Hi,
    I'm using digitalocean.com

They are using SSD drives, and I'll tell you it works very fast. In the beginning I was reluctant but now I'm very satisfied and I would definitely recommend them

They are virtual private servers but if you know how to set it up that shouldn't be a problem and it's very cheap

      Thanks, Gene...

For a first time launcher, what tier of their hosting would you estimate I start with?

I'd use a VPD so you have more control over growth and what happens.

You could use something cheap like dremahost, or you could go for something more high quality in terms of features and support such as future hosting.

You may start from low cost and reliable hosting services from a2hosting.com (QUICK51) and ewallhost.com (EWSDNGX50 ).
They have active support and they fix issues if they occur very fast.

Dedicated hosting is really NOT needed by most sites.

For what you are doing a VPS would be the max you would need, a properly configured shared host would work as well...

Now before I get bashed by a bunch of people on here about shared hosting... I wouldn't recommend most hosting company's shared plans as they are not performance tuned, they are under tuned for a reason, to upgrade you later.

However with that said, my shared hosting plan with the current server configuration has been able to handle 5 million visits or more daily or burst... with no page delivery or slowness issues.

Again, this is on a properly configured shared hosting server...

I would however recommend a VPS, just because everything is under your control.

Now if you don't know how to setup a VPS, most hosting companies will setup your VPS with a standard, non performance enhanced setup...

We do things a little differently, we tune and setup your VPS with our custom configuration before we ever turn it over to you to start setting up your websites... this takes up to 24 hours to complete, because we load test it first and manually configure each VPS for our clients.

And we do this while providing 2 times the resources or more than our competitors do at the same price.

I agree with WPMLM on this one. It depends on the ability of your current server.

A VPS with an SSD should work. You could use DigitalOcean as eugenedm recommended. I use Known Host. Wired Tree is also good.

I would not recommend you to use shared hosting at all. Because if the IP where you will be given hosting already have a high traffic website, your website performance can suffer which you would like to avoid at any cost while launching your website.
