I am totally agree with you, their service is way to bad, their response time is over 3-5 days now.
What they are doing is just trying to grab as many clients as they can. by offering 80% discount. Not only this speed is another problem, I too facing these days.
I also thinking to shift my sites to someone better..But have lesser customer base..
Hostgatar customer base is increasing rapidly but they are not increasing quality and customer support..

Tip: Stop hosting malware because 99.99% of host will shut you down.

Earlier this year I was going to move my blog to hostgator. They offer FREE website migration.

I paid and followed all the steps that they outlined.

No one looked into my ticket for blog migration for two weeks. I sent about 3 more emails (1 day apart) and still no answer.

They didn't reply to 'any' of my support requests until I asked them to shut my account down and 'refund' me.

Then they tried to talk me into staying.

Bad customer support is a red flag.

The only thing host gator is good for is taking your money.

Just do a search on the internet for host gator and you will see a ton of complaints.

I've been slowly taking my sites off of HostGator.

The support used to be awesome once upon a time (in fact, that's how they won a lot of customers back in the day). Now it's a joke.

This malware thing seems to be affecting a lot of their servers. Opening a ticket and a live chat got them to run a "scan" and clean out the stuff - nothing changed.

I'm almost done moving away, and would not be renewing my account with them. Sucks, because I had been with them for so many years and I've got tons of stuff to move.

I've been with hostgator for 8 years, and recently moved all my important sites away from them. Their customer support is terrible, 3-5 days for a reply, which means 3-5 days downtime if they blocked you for something.

If you're a marketer and have important sites, and prefer support emails within the hour, sometimes minutes from a web hosting company that actually cares about their customers, look into "Knownhost". They not cheap, but at least I have piece of mind that I am in safe hands.

So glad I stopped using hostgator, strike 5 and they out!

I can highly recommend Amerinoc, I´ve used them for years and works like clockwork.

Before quitting, I tell them to be honest and upfront with all new and existing customers.

That their email support and website security has been outsourced to 3rd party SiteLock instead of misrepresenting the public that their service is the best through Youtube - which you may have seen several times as prelude or interruption of other videos you are watching - and other forms of advertising.

All my sites were hacked today, and their response was, but sitelock. That's all.

I removed all the files the hacker uploaded, and I just wanted them to run a scan and clean my account.

They refused.

It seems like they don't have secure servers?

Guys, I'm really desperate here. I frankly don't want to and can't spend 100s of dollars per month on hosting.

My instinct says these guys don't have my best intention at heart, and I want to host with someone who cares.

I've been trying to reach them by phone, chat and E-mail for the past 12 hours, and NOTHING.

I've chatted with their reps thrice, and they are unbelievably rude, and I once chatted with the sitelock guys, and man, they are more rude than these guys. I don't want to spend $40/month/site with them. Definitely not.

I have more than 20 sites hosted on Hostgator.

Do you guys have a good recommendation?

aarthielumalai, you don't have to spend hundreds per month on hosting. Try Arvixe and InMotion.

And Hostgator continues getting a bad name! I started IM 7 years ago, and I found Hostgator (together with my mentor) the best provider. Now things have changed considerably.

Hi Amuro I have never used hostgator, but I did use another large provider, that continuously let themselves down on the customer service. I also after about 10 years of loyalty realised that I needed to have my domain names and web space separate just in case I encountered problems. All my domains are no on name heap with my hosting separate, if I have to move again it is just a case of pointing the DNS settings to my new web space.

I was with Hostgator for from 2009 to 2011. No problems those 2 years.

Then, one day in 2011, woke up, fired up my PC and lo and behold, almost all of my blogs
(about 40 at that time) were down.

No prior warning the day before, nothing.

I quickly did some research on other hosting providers, decided on HawkHost, and quickly moved all my blogs over to them.

At the very least Hostgator could have given me 24 hours notice to fix the "cache issues" that caused them to suspend service.

Also, with Hostgator, several of my blogs were hacked. Since I have been with HawkHost the past 4 + years, I have not had a single blog hacked.

They need to do better. They used to be a good hosting provider several years ago but not anymore...

Hostwinds might be good (or not). I have never used their hosting, so I can`t say anything good or bad about them.

I do use HawkHost and have had no problems the past 4 and a half years with their hosting. I highly recommend that you consider using their service.

Hostgator is the absolute web host on the planet. If you still use them, it's only a matter of time before you'll be saying the same thing. I've been marketing online since 2002, and have never ran into a worse web host. Try calling their customer service. If you wait less than 20 minutes to speak to someone, I'll buy you a car. Average wait time is 45 minutes to talk to anyone. Average ticket response time is well over a day, if you're lucky. Live chat? yeah, good luck. Prepare to wait for infinity to reach a live person.

Any reviews you see online of Hostgator being a quality host, are either from many many years ago when a different company owned them. OR are reviews written by their affiliates who earn commission when you sign up.

I'm not one to "talk trash" about another company, but these guys are about 2,000 people under-staffed and will show your business ZERO respect and attention.

Please don't let me say, I told you so, and just find some other web host before its too late.

Used Hostgator for a VERY short period of time, but lack of good support sent me to Bluehost and iPage....never had any troubles!

Everyone keeps talking about "lack of support".

When you should be worried about "uptime".

And here's the graphic showing the downtime getting worse year by year. I was using SiteUptime.com 1 minute monitoring at the time. Best investment ever. You always need to know when your income producing sites are down. This opened my eyes to the Hostgator trend and I jumped ship shortly thereafter.

Agreed with you. Support is bad. Hostgator is not honest. I signed up for a 6-month hosting service, which was due for renewal on 22 Nov 2015. I informed them that I intend to cancel it on 16 Nov 2015 and raised a ticket to cancel it on 20 Nov 2015. They informed that I had to cancel it thru my billing account, which I did. I got an acknowledgement that my account would be cancelled on 22 Nov 2015.
When I received my credit card my credit card statement last week, I discovered that they had already debited an amount of USD 50.00 on 17 Nov 201, which was a week before my account was due for renewed. Althought they did refunded me on 26 Nov 2015, I suffered a lost of SGD9.00. I am very disappointed that they debited my credit card one week earlier, they didn't inform me when I was communicatiing with them about my cancellation.

I never use email support but when I call Hostgator I usually get through in a matter of minutes although I have not called them in the last month. I use their reseller account so if one site were to become infected, the other sites would not become infected. Only problems I have had have been with using up bandwidth,so I use Bluehost for my high traffic site. I also found out two years ago that Hostgator has better malware protection than Bluehost. Also, we all should be backing up our files. Finally, on my major WP sites I use Wordfence security plugin set to allow no more than three unsuccessful login attempts before denying further access to the login page and a plugin that requires Captcha solving at login.

You can still call in but expect to wait a minimum of an hour. I agree with what's already been said which is they used to be great, but they're really bad now. It's disappointing and it's going to be a pain moving all of my websites to a new hosting company.

Liquidweb has AWESOME, and I mean AWESOME service.

If you have the budget RACKSPACE is also AWESOME, but not for the faint of heart, they are pricy.

His new host is in Siberia & likes for him to host malware on shared servers.

I'd stay away from HostGator, and any of the other EIG hosts.

If you're looking for inexpensive, decent hosting, I'd recommend NameCheap

Great to see this thread! I just changed from Hostgator to InMotion LAST NIGHT! I had heard rumblings about Hostgator and my sites were loading so slow...plus their support has really gone downhill.

I only have 24 hours experience with InMotion but their customer service has been excellent so far and right now I am very happy with them...and glad to have moved away from Hostgator.

InMotion did free transfer (12 sites), has SSD, free backups and all cheaper than what I was paying at Hostgator.

I have to add my two cents to this thread. I've been with Hostgator for many years and very happy.

Recently, I got notices from Google about malware on two of my sites. When I looked into it, I had no malware at all on my actual sites. It was someone else on a shared server messing with things which were then affecting my sites. I told Hostgator and they told me it was fixed. But then I got another notice shortly after. Turned out it still wasn't fixed. I worked with them again and it finally got fixed and I was happy.

But now there is an entirely other issue with Hostgator where Yahoo and AOL have now graylisted their email gateways so you can never be sure which emails to Yahoo or AOL users through their shared servers will go through. That problem has me realizing I may have to change hosts. I've started a thread on that issue here:

Like some other people in the thread, I'm dreading the idea of having to change hosts because it's a huge hassle and it's hard to go through that whole process of figuring out which company to trust for years to come. (There are so many choices it's overwhelming.) It's pretty sad because I loved Hostgator. I loved using them and I recommended them to others. And I would like nothing more than to stay with them for more years to come. If they've gotten to a point where they're driving even someone like me away things have really gotten pretty bad.

I hope someone is showing them these threads so they can realize how badly they're hurting their once really great business.

I've had bad experience with Hostgator as well. Mailing response is very bad and I think they've already a lot of users. And maintaining all the users issues and all causing this bad issue.

Guys, STOP using EIG hostings and you won't have those problems. EIG really done a bad job to host our websites!

When you switch to new hosting, be sure to ask ANY company you're talking to if they are EIG owned or affiliated. Pretty easy to pickout hg, bluehost, big companies. But, it's the littler hosting companies/resellers/private labels you need to be cautious of too. You will likely be using the same support system provided by EIG and company-wide server specs.

So if all the EIG companies are now suspect and smaller companies and resellers are too, then who should we be looking at? Especially if we just aren't big enough to merit a $100's per month dedicated server?

From all reports, although personally I don't use their service, I would take a strong look at MDD Hosting for shared. Seems like they are riding the wave right now. They are not the least expensive, but then again what does it cost you for poor support? Still a good value.

Their offices are in Indiana with the data center in Denver, CO.

Same issue I faced with them in 2012 .. when they were sold out to EIG, since them I have migrated to Webhost UK Pretty happy with the service I got, I really feel I told the right decision at the right time.

Also they are not to back your customers but to simply shut your site down at the first silly complaint they may receive.. cheesy

The same happened to me, my sites got hacked and instead of trying to help me they said they will not do anything and that I should pay a ridiculous amount to SiteLock just as a subscription without any quarantee. Additionally they haven't even back up my site as they used to do in the past!

Any suggestions for a hosting provider who actually cares about its clients?
