Hostgator Horrible - What is recommended ?

Ever since Hostgator was sold they have descended into a really inferior provider.

Now the latest is they don't even keep their own servers protected from Malware. So they tell me I have to pay Sitelock $300 to remove malware from my site?

What host providers do you recommend , that keep their servers protected from Malware and

      COMPLETELY agree!

LiquidWeb provides awesome support, fast, friendly, helpful. Which is what HostGator used to provide before being taken over by EIG.

LiquidWeb usually answers emails within 15 minutes and their servers are top notch! Although I do think LiquidWeb is more for the specialized hosting, dedicated servers etc (storm servers) they also provide shared hosting.

      Good luck!

You don't have to pay Sitelock $300. You could pay me $750.

Why is it Hostgator's responsibility to keep YOUR site clean? Your account, your responsibility.

Thanks I will look into that provider. Will only cost me $20 to move to a new service provider, but these con artists charge $300 and this character above for 750 to remove Malware...??

Don't think there would be any problems. The new host should be able to move everything for you and make sure it's set up correctly.

            Thanks for the answer!
I just talk with them and they offer 2 free account migrating with each new hosting plan.
So actually there will be no problem or any new setup transferring the whole cpanel data with my websites ( not sure about my emails accounts using thunderbird ).
I just realize that Hostgator raises the yearly prices even for old customers!
I just take a look on my future payments and the next payment will be +$30!!!!!
So, just another reason to change to another company.

I can understand the frustration with HostGator when it comes to malware. I used to get some malware injected into my WordPress sites from time to time and I would always contact HostGator and they would scan and remove the malware for me free of charge right then and there.

Now when you ask them to do that they won't help and want you to pay for their Sitelock protection. This is only something that has started since they were sold.

I can understand why people would be frustrated since most other large hosting companies will hep you out for free and not try to push one of their services on you. However, HostGator is a for profit company and so I can understand they are trying to make money.

Sometimes, though, a little customer service can go a lot farther in terms of bringing in new business than making your existing customers buy a monthly protection service. That being said, I guess you can't really expect a hosting company to protect your sites for you in addition to hosting them for $10 a month. After all, it is the site owners responsibility to protect and backup their own sites.

After many years testing different registrars, I think its pretty much a wash. Many of the same hosting company's are owned by the same larger overseeing company's, so if there is a problem it is most likely to trickle down to their smaller affiliates.

I had a very similar experience with Hostgator back in 2011. Their support was very slow to respond to me.

I switched over to HawkHost and have had no problems at all so far.

GVO might be a good choice too, but I can`t say one way or the other since I have never utilized their service.

I am still classified as a reseller for HORROR gator, and that should be their name. Frankly, we do not rec them any more. The original company was taken over. Actually, they were pretty good years ago. Sadly, we no longer feel that is our case. Hard to know why this occurs in companies. Like we mean... once they grow to a certain size... they feel consumers do not matter any more.

        UPDATE:

I have moved all my Worpdress sites to Go Daddy two weeks ago. And so far no problem. Malware did not come back.

I will also say this. A lot of people have negative comment about Go Daddy. But of about 10 hosting services I have used in past 15 years, Go Daddy BY FAR has the BEST customer service.

Host gator customer service Phone or chat 30-45 minute wait.

Hostgator has been good for a couple of years, just after it is taken over by EIG. A REALLY BIG problem hit my website. Poor customer support, long waiting time for live chat, website keep getting error.

Not only that, they raised the prices of their hostings.

My advice? GET OUT of Hostgator ASAP.

I am with Linode since 2009. Requires a bit of skill to set everything up, but it's like having your own physical server. Very happy with them.

You get what you pay for --> I've been with Hostdime since 2002. Excellent company, great data centers, great connectivity, excellent support. See the extremely comprehensive company overview, server and NOC details, live NOC video feeds, and the data enter video tour they have on their website.

    Cheers

What host providers do you recommend , that keep their servers protected from Malware and
Why you are paying Sitelock $300 many host provides free sitelock for one website, how many websites you want to secure using sitelock?

I was with hostgator for years for some of my sites. They couldn't handle some support requests, so I moved to A2 hosting and have been extrmemely happy.
