Alternatives to Udemy

13 replies
I have been doing quite a lot of training this last year and now looking to branch out to some similar platforms. I have looked at a few but thought I would get some reviews from warriors.

So if you have used other LMS (learning managemet system) platforms add them below.

Thanks in advance.

    I've used Udemy and Zenler. I prefer Zenler to Udemy as I'm in control of my own list there and don't have to have my courses approved before they can be published. I also considered Teachable and Thinkific, which are similar to Zenler and well worth a look.

      I have tried Zenler as well. Compared to Udemy, I agree with you, I prefer Zenler. I tried a couple of courses and it was really good. I am not giving all the chips to Zenler, but I think it will depend on the course that you are looking for. I still will recommend Udemy because I used it longer than Zenler and it was worth it.

      There is a HUGE difference when discussing anything OTHER than Udemy for reasons you'll see below.

      I have 40 courses published on Udemy and over 70 courses on Teachable.

      I like Udemy because they invest in your business by marketing & promoting your courses for you with:

      * FB ads
      * Targeted email campaigns
      * Organic sales from their site
      * Facebook retargeting ads
      * Retargeting ads on other sites
      * Site wide sales

      The majority of my Udemy sales come from Udemy's promotional efforts.

      Teachable, on the other hand, does ZERO promotion of your courses and is NOT a marketplace like Udemy is, so your sales will ONLY ever come from your marketing efforts. (there is no other way for people to find your courses other than through your marketing efforts.)

      Having said that, I like Teachable because

      Teachable has an "instant" "import from Udemy" feature, so I can easily import my Udemy courses and they are available within 10 minutes.

      * Courses do not have to go through a review process
      * I can upload PLR content
      * I can upload any mix of video, audio, PDF, etc that I choose. (Udemy has certain requirements for a "course")
      * I have control over my students / leads.
      * I can email students whenever I wish
      * I can delete a student if they request a refund

      I have a WSO all about Udemy and another one all about Teachable.

      Zenler is another great option, although they don't have the easy import from Udemy option so I haven't really dug into it. My gut is that Zenler has more internet marketer-based features, which I like - just haven't gotten into it since Teachable is easier / quicker to use.

      Hope this helps!

      In a different thread on this site, I made a post with a list of online learning platforms and some key business courses, a few weeks back.

      .

      Here's the same list I posted there:

        I just searched through Dropbox to find an old list I used for reference before...

        Most of these won't be of any use to you for what you want to do, but I don't have time to sort them out right now.

        Maybe you can still find some an idea or two somewhere in the list.

    I actually get Lynda.com access free through my job. I think it's a really well done site with lots of training. Maybe Udemy is better but it can't beat free. I recommend that others who work for big companies check to see if they are offered a benefit like this.
