Online Marketing Investment Startagies
A $100,000 investment in a site could take 2 years (or longer) to become profitable. This is not the case with say Facebook marketing, you would know if you were profitable pretty quickly. There's also a risk vs reward discussion here. The investment into a site could potentially turn into a massive return. Some sites historically were relatively cheap to produce and were sold for astronomical amounts, these forums are a good example. This is unlikely to be the case with paid advertising, but since the return period is much shorter, you could "bounce" the money and potentially earn more, but there's a chance you could get completely ruined.
The SEO investment seems less risky because you could always lock yourself up in an apartment in Thailand while you work on it. Obviously the cost of living is relatively cheap there and all of your business is done online so it doesn't really matter where you operate it from as long as you have set it up before hand.
If you do product creation, that investment amount should be enough to produce a reasonable quality line of digital products, but there's always a chance the products could flop entirely. There would certainly need to be a strategy here since the first product you launched, you would basically be unknown and you would have no solid customer list to mail. If you did manage to get a product to be really successful, it could also generate a massive return.
So, based upon your experience, what strategy or combination of strategies makes the most sense?
