Hello everyone,

I"m interested in starting a forum on my website and was wondering if anyone here has used the WordPress in combination with BB Press and Buddy Press? How did you like it?

I have used vBulletin before and I really do love them. Just wondering if it's worth it spending the money on them is all. Thanks J

I have used BBPress with WordPress on several projects of my clients. Works seamlessly. Just need to ensure, the theme you're using is BBPress compatible. Many Theme providers, today make sure that their theme is BB Press compatible.

    I hope, it helps.

Thanks! So it's free and it works well and gives many of the same functions as vBulletin? Thanks J

VBulletin is great but pricey, but if you want to monetize your forum, it gives you a lot of control. BuddyPress is great but tough to monetize, but if you simply want a forum with profile features etc to start a community, it works well.

A low cost option that still allows you to create paid sections on your forum is WebsiteToolbox.com - their forum is simple to set up but still gives you the ability to create a paid access point, such as the WarRoom here.

I've used VB in the past as well, but if you're going to spend that kind of money you may want to take a look at XenForo instead. Actually VB would be about my third choice for an optimal forum right now behind the aforementioned and IPBoard.

It really gets down to how you intend to use the forum.

Thank you BeechHill! I appreciate your insights and suggestions as well as referrals to other providers I can check out.

Really all I'm looking for is a Forum that I can monetize eventually with area like The War Room in WarriorForum. Just have it so people can post their own avatars and user names and even a limited number of links in their signature. I just want the community aspect and the discussion would be monitored by Admin and Mods and all be very similar layout to the WarriorForum and I like vBulletin I which I am sure WF is using. I don't need to to really do anything other than that.

What are these other two Forum providers better for? Can you give me an example of which type of Forum would be better used with each type of software? Thanks J

Also I called vBulletin and confirmed that you must use one license per one domain. So you cannot purchase vBulletin and use it on a few different websites. So if you plan on having multiple websites and want forums on all or many of them then that can add up. Any free alternatives people out there are using in terms of a set up that works well and acts as a forum where people can build up their personality and their 'respect' in the community. Things like their own avatar, description, levels of Mods, Admin and special blocked off area if possible and if not then that is fine. Thanks J

Thanks LeoDav! Is this what you mean? I never heard of it. How do you like it? This may be a good alternative. I wonder how it compares to WordPress Forum with BB Press and Buddy Press?

Thanks LeoDav so why would you transition to vBulletin then? What would be the reasoning? Why not just stay with SMF it's it's free and superb as you say? Please let me know. Thanks J

VB has had a few ups and downs over the last few years. Law suits with XenForo, former developers that had left. The transfer of the business. A less then stellar roll out of VB4. It's still a great platform, just that there are some other worthy options now at that level. The benefit of VB is the huge community.

As far as what you want to do, the three mentioned can do that, plus many of the top rated free ones. You should realize though that the Warrior Forum is a heavily moded version of VB. So, if you're looking for the same functionality it maybe something you will have to pay to implement.

I have tried most platforms and settled on Invision Power Board - pretty happy with it and WAY simpler to manage than VB.

Thanks BeechHill and Terry Kyle! Just wondering with one of these other brands like Invision Power Board are you allowed to use it on more than one website per license if you are the owner of both websites? Thanks J
