Can anyone identify this software?

PRODUCT REVIEWS

I was sent this software in lieu of the product I wanted. It is supposed to be a software that is used by hackers supposedly to extract or compile data from web pages. However, when I tried to install it, it said I needed a password, which had not been sent. The sender then tells me the password would cost $500, which of course I am not willing to pay.

Can anyone examine this software and find out what it is and what it actually does?

  Thanks! That was too simple. However I have no idea what all the features he lists mean, but he does give a password, and I'll try that to see if it works for installation.

OK. So, what is this software supposed to do? What is it used for? Can anyone give me a clue? I am not a programmer.

Elliott,

I read the forum posts from the response that Zefriks gave you.

It appears that it is used to "trick" the internet service provider (ISP) when they provide those services on a metered basis (i.e. usage fees), and can also access domains that normally are not available in their native country.

If it was provided in lieu of a product you paid for... you definitely got cheated, as the ZI Phreaking Tool is (and always has been) a freebie.

I think it's probably of little use to anyone in the U.S.

Personally, I wouldn't trust it. and would never put it on my own machine.

Thanks Sid. I read those threads too, and you have confirmed what I thought - its useless. The person who sent it to me had offered to compile a list of students at a public university here, along certain parameters, then sent me this "tool" so I could get started doing it myself. But he sent no password, then said the password would cost $500 to generate! His name is Mustafa Khalifa I believe, and he seems to hang out on those sites which refer "ethical" (and otherwise) "hackers". I think they are lead capture pages for scammers, mostly.
