what's best hosting for big product launch?

Hi,

I have a big product launch scheduled soon and want a reliable hosting company who won't shut the site down if it gets a big spike in traffic.

Anyone have any experience with launches and flexible hosting?

Thanks,

    Martin,

    I would look into Mosso.com or MediaTemple.com

What you get basically is a piece of their robust enterprise-level server cluster with massive redundancy and resources.

This goes way beyond dedicated servers and is more affordable due to it's "pay-for-what-you-use" model. When you exceed the resources allotted to you in your base account, you just pay for additional CPUs, storage and bandwidth as needed.

Media Temple starts at 20./Mo (100 sites) and provides more space and bandwidth while Mosso will cost you a minimum of 100./mo. but gives you unlimited sites and sub-accounts for resellers.

Mosso wins out for pedigree as this is a service of Rack Space - one of the best in the business.

I am running my Ad Network on Media Temple and my sites on Mosso and so far I am very happy with both.

      Hi Mark,

I really appreciate your help. I knew of Mosso because I have a couple of dedicated servers with Rackspace but even Rackspace dedicated servers seemed wrong for a product launch (outdated technology for fast impulse spikes in traffic). Mosso seems like the perfect environment for a launch site. Any Gurus use it yet for a launch?

I wasn't aware of Media Temple's version of cluster hosting but I will certainly test them out also. I have become spoiled by Rackspace's fanatical support and 100% network uptime. How does Media Temple support and uptime compare?

BTW are you Mark from vTribes.com?...I have been looking at vTribes.com for the past couple of weeks for a large member site I am planning. I was mostly concerned with the hosting being in Canada (from what I was able to see) - is that with Kiosk.ws? Will you be moving to a US based host / network?

Thanks so much for your advice!

      Best,

      Martin M.

p.s. your DNA Members Priority Notification Signup looks very intriguing - I going to watch the webinar now.

Too early to tell with Media Temple support and uptime as I just started recently with them.

Entry fee of 20.00/Mo. is pretty enticing. Their MySQL structure looks pretty advanced and that's one of the most important cogs in the "wheel" for handling a large number of requests.

On demand CPU, Storage and Bandwidth is where it's at and where most of us will be going ;-)

        Mark

P.S. We are moving vTribes to the "Cloud" next month and will finally eliminate dedicated server issues that plague us and anyone else using dedicated boxes. (ClickBank and new video/audio features coming next week as well)

I will certainly keep track of vTribes developments...I have a potentially large member site to develop and looking for the right membership platform has been tough. I like what I see in vTribes and that it is backed by great IM people also. I like Mike. :-) Just bought his Traffic Fusion...looking forward to using it.

As for the new hosting revolution did you know that Rackspace and Mosso Racklabs - Thoughts on the Hosted IT Revolution Clouds Everywhere, Including Rackspace are developing a competing platform to Amazon's aws.amazon.com and Google's Google App Engine - Google Code

  • I'd shop around you can get host for next to nothing , but it just depends on how much you know about web design.

If you want quality and reliability, IMO

      Rackspace

      would be a good choice.
