Aweber Alternative - Suggestions Please

Hi,

Before you go and post a big list of all of the autoresponder services out there, here are my requirements;

- The list in question is 15,000 in size.

- Aweber changed their pricing structure a short while back, we are still on their old one paying $20/mo but they have recently put us on a higher pricing plan (despite having 'unlimited' leads / lists etc) as we have had a big spike of subscribers recently.

- Lots of other services out there seem to either charge a fortune for bigger lists, anything over a few thousand really ramps the price up.

- Alternatively, they charge per email sent or 0.01 per delivery.

Just want a good, respectably priced auto responder service (LIKE AWEBER USED TO BE!)

Any ideas?

What is it that you don't like about aweber?

You should be able to make the list pay for itself, meaning that you should be able to earn more from the list than you're paying for Aweber.

Let me get this straight... You are complaining about Aweber's pricing not being 'respectable,' at the same time that you're stating that the other places you've looked at are substantially higher in price.

Perhaps you meant to say "cheaper," or "within my price range?"

I Like mailchimp. If used right, most IM campaigns don't go against their Terms of Use.

You're absolutely right about a list paying for itself... However, my issue with places like Mailchimp - they want $150 per month (Thats $1800 per year!!) Just to hold 15,000 email addresses. Aweber were great with their $20/month deal - but as mentioned, their pricing structure has changed.

In all honestly, we don't email this list very often thus this is a big amount to justify ... Emails don't cost anything to send remember.

I don't count $150/month as value for money to mail out one list. I mean jeez, we could provision a dedicated server for this amount to dedicate to this purpose.

By the way, I currently spend around $40k per year on 'technical' outgoings for servers, hosting etc right now - so don't get me wrong, I do understand the value of paying for a service, but I always choose carefully.

If you own your servers then why don't you install your own autoresponder with domainkeys, SPF record and optimize it for good deliverability?

        Ummm.... What?

Even assuming that's all your list service provided, that's hardly an accurate statement. It's actively harmful to folks who don't understand that SMTP is not the only thing provided by a good list host.

Sure, you can get a server for that much each month. So, why not do that?

Please be specific. You'll be quizzed on your answers.

I'm confused. Are you saying you were forced to upgrade to the new pricing? I thought they weren't doing that. Under the old pricing a 15k list would have cost $29.95 per month. How much are they charging you?

People have said they've had issues with MailChimp, but I just moved from AWeber (who I have been with for years) to MailChimp and couldn't be happier. They offer more tools for developers. They have a much nicer email design interface, if you're into sending out well-designed emails. They have a very nice, inexpensive inbox testing service. Their list segmentation options are better than any other service I've used. I could go on and on.

Sent out a little 1,500+ blast today and have seen a better response than I've seen in the last 3-4 campaigns I ran with AWeber. I don't know if it is just the time of year, the content of the email, or something else, but I couldn't be happier with them at the moment.
