Clive - I use Chitika, along with Kontera and Adsense. I've been testing it and Kontera, and overall they are far below Adsense in CTR and CPC.

It's not a totallly fair comparison because I use Chitika on just a few pages, and on secondary pages to keep it from competing with my best money affiliate and adsense pages.

So given that caveat, I can give you a comparison. I keep good records. if we assume my Adsense CTR is 10%, my Chitika CTR will run 10-30%. Chitika earning per click is about 15-25% of my Adsense.Again, this is not a balanced comparison, but it should give you a perspective.

Interestingly, Kontera gives me a higher CTR than Chitika, but a lower CPC.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that chitika ads are only shown to American and Canadian visitors, and only if they come to your site from a search engine.

If you don't get much SE traffic, or your SE traffic is from elsewhere, chitika is pretty useless.

I just started using it because I was looking for an alternative to adsense. I have used Adsense for the last 3 years, but 3 months ago Google banned me. I have no idea why and lost the appeal from the 800 pound gorilla. Tried Adbrite and Bidvertiser, but Chitika is much more targeted to my content then Adbrite and Bidvertiser were. Would love to have Adsense back and would love to know how or why I got banned.

I say use kontera or other services if you are selling ads on your website not using other companies where you are getting paid per click.

For example John Chow makes sense using kontera because he sells his ads on his website. Then kontera is just the icing on the cake!

I earned $587 in 2 months for my entertaiment sites and i earned 67 usd with kontera with the same traffic in 5 months . dont ever dare to enter in kontera site . really kontera sucks after all ups and downs with the earning, i must say the infolinks is one of the best networks. Having infolinks combined with axill,clicksor and with adbrite banners was very good to me. They dont have many restrictions like adsense except adult and ilegal content

I recently read a blog post in a very popular blog website and the writer was saying that chitika was the second best earner after adsense. Can this be possible and how? I am guessing this is simply possible by having a very nice monthly traffic stream.

I know a guy that uses it on a medical site and the ads that come up are things like, video games and womens apparel, i don't think it's as intuitive as adsense which will give you ads related to the page

Clive I think Ckbank talks about problogger - darren rowse. He use Chitika effectively and gives some very good advice. Well worth a look. He is also one of the top earners in blogging.
