Membership Site Software: What is the best? What are your experiences?

Hello forum,

I'm seeking desperately for a very good Membership Site Management Software / Membership Script. I've already done a lot of research on the WarriorForum and the internet but I'm still unsure what is really the best software with the best value for money available today.

I found the following products:

  • AEC Membership Manager (a Joomla extension)

  • aMember Pro

  • DAP DigitalAccessPass (a WordPress plugin)

  • DLGuard (not really a membership management software)

  • EasyMemberPro

  • JoomSuite (Joomla extension "Member")

  • MemberGate (very expensive)

  • MemberSpeed (quite expensive)

  • (Memberzilla – it turned out to be vaporware)

  • OpenCrypt

  • Simple Member Pro

  • (SubHub – not a script, subscription based)

I would appreciate your honest opinions very much if you have any experience – good or bad – or even if you know some other scripts not mentioned or if you know some honest reviews about membership scripts.

Thank you very much in advance,

Karl

P.S.: Thank you all for your great and helpful responses. If someone wants to add his product to this list, please PM me.

Put Simple Member Pro on the top of that list and buy it.

I havent tried the rest, but I've been a simple member pro customer for almost a year now and the free support and upgrades are a welcome addition and the script is fantastic.

It's got everything you'd ever need, seriously and it's fully customisable.

You dont want to save a few bucks on another script and regret it later, like I have done in the past.

PM me if you want my affiliate link

Or not...but just get it either way, you won't regret it,

In it's simplest form all a membership script needs
to do is create and manage passwords so only those
who have signed-up or paid to be members can
    access the member only content.

This might seem alarmingly crude - but I have seen
memberships sold which are nothing more than
    password protected blogs.

    Which begs the question:
Other than passwords what do you want the script
    to do?

Do you need the script to manage downloads?
    Track and pay affiliates?

    And so on.

I just have experience with Amember, and I'm very happy with it indeed. One disadvantage: it's not beautiful-looking out of the box; you will want to tweak templates and maybe add code to personalise pages etc. Advantages:
    1) It works - solidly, all the time
    2) You can adjust it to do more or less anything you have in mind, not least thanks to the range of add-ons to integrate with other scripts (eg forums, Wordpress, Joomla, affiliate scripts (though it also has its own)...)
    3) The support. It's stellar. The time other people spend on marketing, they spend responding to support tickets, frequently providing custom code at no extra cost. They've actually been so instrumental in getting my site set up that I watch forums like a hawk for threads about membership site scripts where I can sing their praises.

Does it integrate with Aweber or is that a relevant question?

It does as much as anything is allowed to. That is, it can put an Aweber sign-up form on your thanks page and pre-fill it so that people only have to click 'submit' - and if you head the page something like 'one final step...' and describe the benefits nicely, they generally do. Aweber won't allow an automatic subscription in the background.

It'll also unsubscribe from the product-related list when membership expires, and when I put in a request for the ability to unsubscribe from list a when signing up to product b (so purchasers could reliably be removed from a prospect list), they added that for me free of charge.

          The e-learning model is intriguing.

Would this be aWeber series of emails or have

Depends on what you need your site to do. But these are all tried and true, and I have used them all.

                For Wordpress:
wpwishlist hands down. (way worth the price tag)<-- super easy to use and set up.

                For Joomla:
AEC w/ Community Builder (Both are free.) <--- Joomla has a higher learning curve. But if your willing to stick it out and learn it. This is the best and most affordable way to start a membership site.

If you have the cash to spend, (cost for script, then cost for each plugin)
Amember is also awesome, and it can be made to work with wordpress, joomla, and html files.

aside from these there are a few others out there that are good as well. But they are way overpriced for the features that you get.

I use Extreme member - it's fully hosted (no installs, integration) has various pricing levels and will get you email/affiliate marketing, forums, etc and is based on wordpress.

For e-learning, you can use EM to provide one time payment, fixed number of payments or module based memberships (drip content over time) to make time based course delivery. But I think as long as you provide ongoing value (I provide monthly q&a sessions on ustream.tv to my members) there's no reason why a membership site can't work. I'm also a long term member of jimmybrunoguitarinstitute because I can submit vids and get feedback from a pro jazz guitar legend

I have been using Easy Member Pro and have had a lot of issues with the software such as: disappearing members, e-mail notification when a new member signs up (still not resolved) and members not being able to confirm opt-in message to activate membership. It is not compatible with Aweber, you have to manually transfer your members to Aweber to set up automated e-mails. Easy Member Pro has an e-mail function, but not an auto-responder function.

I haven't launched my site yet, because of the software issues. It has been a bit frustrating to say the least.

                Good Luck.

Karl, for what it's worth. I've done a lot of work in the membership space in the last few years. My largest client makes more than $1,000,000 per year with two sites my company ended up building for him from scratch.

Myself I've never had the time to launch a really good membership site, at least not yet.

Don't know what your site will contain but I'd like to offer you my thoughts.

For one... my impression is the vast majority of membership sites fail. There are many reason if so but a big one might be that not many members stay members for very long.

Soon I think you will see the membership phenomenon begin to fade just as AdSense websites did when Google made enough changes that seriously hurt our monthly revenue. As membership after membership fails or doesn't generate enough revenue to be worth the time something else will come along to replace it.

I'm predicting it will be e-learning sites. A fixed term membership site if you will. These will work better as the user or "member" needs to complete the fixed term to get his value. This should solve the high turnover rate common to most membership sites. I think you will see 365 day courses, 52 week courses, 7 day courses etc. Each course begins to presell another as it comes to an end.

Just a thought Karl. Good luck with your project.

            Hi Karl,

Many good suggestions were made here for the various types of membership management software that Warriors have had experience with.

I was thinking that if you listed some of the capabilities you wanted to incorporate into your membership site then others could chime in with whether or not the software they are familiar with can or can't do things on your list.

I personally chose JV Manager Fantasos for it's ability to manage mutil membership sites from one central location.

            Good luck in your search.

What kind of software would be good for a fixed term elearning course method? ONe that would sell one course after another?
Simplest and cheapest method it to use an autoresponder like aweber to send out the lessons via email and place an add for your next course in the email.

Other method is for content to be viewed online in a fixed period of lessons.
aMember can handle this with the Incremental Content Plugin. You can then also use wordpress to handle the content management side of things.

I've been using memberspeed for nearly a year now and have very mixed feelings about it. first of all I had no idea that it was in beta when I bought the license and there have been continuous upgrades, patches and new plug ins. Good for improving your sites but when you have more than one site you just get that here we go again feeling after a while. Apart from that the new plug ins were listed on the sales spiel and at least one of them is still to come but it was advertised with the package when I bought it. As my first year is nearly up I have to make a decision on whether or not to pay a years upgrades and support fee which has nearly doubled in cost since I bought in.

As the software is very sensitive it doesn't take much for things to go wrong. One day something is working the next it isn't with no apparent reason and that has happened several times. Without having their support I would lose my sites and all of the work that I've put into them so I would be crazy not to pay for it, but I feel as if I'm squirming on the end of an hook and too dependent on them.

I initially had great difficulty in understanding how to use the software and plug ins and when it comes to updates one site will update successfully and I can go through exactly the same motions with another site and mess up. In fact one site crashed when I was doing a simple update and the only way that I could get it back was to pay my host. Now I pay memberspeed to update my sites it's less stressful. Initially the instructions were thin on the ground but they have got better and support is very good.

Moan over now for the good. Memberspeed is very SEO friendly and traffic starts coming in effortlessly. It only takes a couple of weeks to get Alexa rankings of around 600,000 and as each time I've been too busy trying to figure out how to build the sites to do any promoting it's pretty good.

After a time consuming, stressful and frustrating beginning I am now using the software quite easily and am actually beginning to like it. Although I would have preferred to have had everything promised to start with I can appreciate that the software is very good and getting better all the time. I am finding myself looking forward to what else they come up with - as long as I don't have to install it!

I recently had a Joomla site installed on a domain that I had bought to use with memberspeed but I thought Joomla would be easier to use. I am finding the Joomla admin side more complicated than memberspeed so I guess you get what you pay for.

Interesting to hear about the e-learning ongoing model. I am working on a site now that has that built in.

Instead of giving it all away upfront..it will be a series of progressive steps to learning what needs to be learned.

I am using memberspeed and it is very powerful. It is a total management system that in my eyes after being out for 15 months, really just came out of beta 3 months ago.

It has too many features to list here, but most everything you can imagine has been built into this puppy. Autocontent delivery based on number of days in the membership is awesome, so on day 30..suddenly this new content appears for them..day 45 suddenly new content appears for them..

This will allow me to do alot of the work upfront for the content, and set and forget it. Freeing me up to focus on other aspects of development and marketing.

You have to first determine WHAT kind of membership you are going to offer. Mine is going to be rather large and more complicated so to speak, so using memberspeed makes sense.

I have heard nothing but good things from amember, although I do not have experience with it.

Hi Karl, Patrick here from Germany, too.
the first problem you will have is that the scripts are all in English and you will need to translate them .
There are a few ones I recommend. At this time its wishlist member because its a wp-plugin and you can do all sorts of things with it and wp. I will go to the people from Wishlist and ask them If I can translate their script because I am going to use it myself here in Germany.
Most of the payment processors are english and will not work well here in Germany unless you provide a video walk ture. I suggest you go with paypal or click and buy (Online Payments easy and secure worldwide ) I think.

I hope this was helpful. If not you can contact me at any time and we can speak German.

You may also want to search for membership scripts on gogle in German.
I will do that as well;-)

David I think you are right. It all depens on the content you prowide. If its content members get every month that they love then they will happily pay for it. There is so much imformation overload that people are willing to pay if someone just sends them what they want.

  • I am partial to launch formula marketing myself. Awesome script, and you can build as many memberships sites as you want. The script is also very easy to modify. I received above par customer service on this product, and have been very pleased with the results.

I have also used amember, and although it is a good script, I found it too expensive considering the limits on the license.

If you want to see amember in action visit my blog in my sig below. I just added a bunch of how to videos.

    Enjoy

    How about abizac.com?

It offers an all-in-1 marketing solution which includes: membership manager for unlimited membership sites, unlimited autoresponder, affiliate program manager, rss autoresponder, digital download product protection, ad tracking system, customer support manager, mailing list manager & many more. It allows you to fully automate your business in 1 single panel.

If you are interested in using their services, DON"T signup on their website. PM me for the link of their sister website that offers all of the above features + hosting of up to 20 domains + pro website builder with 370 templates for a very very low cost. Much lower than what abizac.com is asking.

    Hope this helps....

    Hi Karl,

I recently designed a membership site for a local swimming club and I chose to use Joomla! Mainly as I wanted to get it up and running asap. The sheer number of modules available mean you can do almost anything you want with Joomla! and the community support is top notch.

The only drawback I found was that the site felt rather 'clunky'. Especially as you begin to add more and more modules. Most users won't notice this but at times I felt that it was taking quite a bit longer to load than a simpler site might have. We're talking maybe an additional half a second at busy times - nothing serious, maybe I'm just being overly critical

If you want a decent (and low cost solution) which comes with some PLR products to get started with try the link here: Start your own Free & Paid Membership Sites - Easy Cash Method Membership Software and Ebook

Right now I am preparing a relaunch of Easy Cash Method moving on from the script and offering pre-built membership sites, with content, etc all setup.

I will then roll out probably in the new year our Product Launch Formula Script which has a major package of web2.0 features built in. Click this link: Product Launch Formula Script - launch a product today! for more details.

The reason why I developed Easy Cash Method and am working on the new script was the lack of quality scripts that could be easily setup (minimum fuss) but worked and had the features built in to start making money. So many come with additional paid features or are simply out of the price range of new marketers.

We have about 600 users during the past year alone.

    Download Manager and URL Protector
    Sales Manager
    Refund Manager
    Joint Venture (JV) Manager
    Charity Manager
    Affiliate Manager

    Autoresponder Manager
    Template Driven

I think Jimmy D. Brown offered a 52 week elearning course a few months back. I did not join, but his comments were of the same nature about people joining and then dropping out after a while.

It seems that when there is a definite schedule of information to be followed and a definite time to finish the training the members know exactly what to expect and how long they must commit to it.

    I recommend

1 - DLGuard (not really a membership management software)
    2 - EasyMemberPro

DL Guard acts like a membership site and has solid features that hackers cannot get around

EasyMemberPro is nice looking but there are many of the sites built on this script that appear to have their backdoors exposed for some reason. I use it and haven't had any real problems to date.

In 2004 when I started my IT Freelancer website I used VisionGate but wasn't too pleased with it.

I've done a lot of research on this topic over the years and currently my preferred option is Drupal - it seems to be more robust and flexible than Joomla! but like a lot of OS projects it is very poorly presented. Also I have yet to use it in earnest yet (I am paying for a 'drip feed' modification before I use it) so I may not know what I am talking about :-) See Drupal case studies | drupal.org for some good examples.

Currently I intend to use DL Guard combined with GetResponse for a 'Subscription Profits' course that I am developing - basically you set up content folders on your site for Day1 etc. and then use DLG to provide unique URLs per customer.

I also have a full Fantasos licence which can also do the job of course but it is not the easiest thing to use! However it provides a complete online business management solution and I may well offer hosted accounts via a WSO soon. If anyone is interested please send me a PM for further details.

    Cheers ...

I also spent a lot of time researching membership scripts and ended up with DL Guard. Although not technically a membership script it does the job nicely and pretty simple to setup and the price was right.

Overall a good solution as long as you're not looking for it to manage your content.

In my opinion content management is best left to Wordpress or Joomla not a membership management software.

    Hi,

Wow, you've opened a 'can of worms' with this one! I've been playing with several software packages, Wishlist Member, Your Members, OpenCrypt, JVM (JV Manager 1.x), John's Little Script, DAP Digital Access Pass. All of them have their advantages/disadvantages.

Find what works best for you - and then post here what you can do with it... I'm finding that sometimes the limitations take too long to correct, or get the programmer to work on, even with some of the bigger names in this business. Also, I would like to see full Word Press integration, not always easy to find...

    So here's a short list:
    ===============
Memberspeed: A ton of features, but can take a while to configure. Once I got it setup I ran into some problems with it running in my hosting environment. I'm sure it could work well for many, but I'm also trying to implement custom protected PHP scripts which are not easy to do with it.

DAP - Digital Access Pass: great customer service (evenings) by the author, looks to be tight wordpress integration, not sure how well their mail list manager works in 'throttled mode'.

Wishlist Member: Great WP integration, however I ran into problems in some areas, and time to resolve them was too long for me. I was in the middle of launch, and really couldn't wait. Unfortunately no affiliate system available.

JVM - Great for setting up a single source (website) for selling all of your digital products/subscriptions and then selling from that system - but a real bear to setup, and quite unfriendly in that regard - if you can hack it though, it seems worth it.

Your Members - tight WP integration, developers are willing to work on missing pieces, though you may have to wait a while for developers to fix or complete things. Unfortunately - I didn't have that much time.

Amember - I've not tried it, but looks a winner, been around a long time, WP integration, drip content, affiliate system, coupons, all here.

OpenCrypt - tight protection, runs in PERL, not tight WP integration, reasonable monthly pricing, possibly offers more features then all of the others, but a little difficult to configure.

That's all I have for now, I've not heard of Simple Member Pro, it looks really great, the only problem I see is it only allows PayPal as the payment processor. I've had people shy away from signing on when that's the case.

HTH - please keep me informed on how you find the others working for you...

Not sure where you got that Simple Member Pro doesn't accept credit card payments. SMP uses PayPal which accepts credit cards for payment. With PayPal you have the choice of paying with a PayPal account or using a credit card.

    Hi Johnny,

I've been looking at SMP and it looks great, good job. One thing looks different though, I could've swore when I looked at it 1 week ago the price was $97.00, did you just raise it to $197.00?

Regarding the credit card payments, I'm talking about accepting direct credit card payments, such as through Authorize.net. From what I've heard recently, the issue with PayPal is that once a credit card expires - with PayPal the subscription is terminated and can result in a lower stick rate. Have you ever thought of writing an Authorize.net payment module?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[715773].message }}
    • Profile picture of the author Johnny Slater
Yes I did just raise the price back up to $197. The script has sold for double that at times but I had lowered it to $97 around the middle of Feb. The lower price was a temporary sale price.

Even at the current price its way underpriced when you look at what the script can do and the ease of use it offers, not to mention the list of features not found in any other solution.

        Hi All,

Software: > I myself like Mike Filsaime's ButterFly Marketing Script.

I'm testing that out right now, it does look impressive so far... it also has support for Authorize.net, but there are some strange little 'tweaks' with setting it up, I'll have to see how it ends up, there's a lot to setup with this, and you have to do some funky things like setup multiple memberships to offer upgrades, also, not sure how well the integration works with recurring payments - I don't think recurring works with Authorize.net, you have to use PayPal to do recurring with it - not my favorite, but I can live with it. The support forum is well stocked too.

Janet: > what do you recommend now?

Have a look at something like EasyMemberPro (Easy Member Pro - Easy to use + Powerful Membership Script), or InstantMember (http://instantmember.com), both of those are easy to work with and seem to be fairly well supported. Unfortunately they are lacking slightly for what I want to do, but it won't affect you at all. I would not recommend starting with a membership website, what you want to do is build credibility in a market first, and a list... then you can think about leveraging those contacts toward a membership/continuity program - don't buy into all the marketers claiming it's 'easy as cake', it's not - selling memberships is harder than selling standard products... build your base with low-priced products, then work toward a membership system.

Josh: > http://nanacast.com (my own service) all

I've looked at that, it seems impressive, especially coupon system, but what's the cost, and if it's tied into a monthly expense, I'm not sure I can see getting started with that type of system - maybe later, if I have enough members I can consider it... it looks similar to JVM, but better

Johnny: > Yes I did just raise the price back up to $197.

I know it's probably underpriced, but there was nothing on the page about the sale ending soon, or even an email from you suggesting that the price would be going up soon - at which point I would have more strongly considered purchasing - now, I have to think twice about whether I can spend the money... Is there any chance it will go down again anytime soon, or that someone who signed on at that lower price would have a chance to upgrade at a lower price?
        {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[716844].message }}

Right, OK folks, what would you recommend to a newbie <- Oh how I hate that word!

    N. Ewbie has very little pc skills, knows how to turn it on, turn it off and get access to the internet. They want to quit their JOB and have been on so many lists for so many years, all they get this year is Membership sites..... you got to have one, it's the only way out of poverty! or Just Over Broke (JOB)

Remember - limited pc skills, not even done ftp or even set up a responder list, but N. Ewbie has been fed the dream of "Quick Bucks" - what do you recommend now?

Just a little experiment, nice to get some answers

    Thanks,

    Janet

or even if you know some other scripts not mentioned
http://nanacast.com (my own service) allows you to create an unlimited number of membership sites and membership blogs and manage them all from one central location without installing a single script.

Here is the features list and guides explaining how membership sites are created using Nanacast:

Josh: > http://nanacast.com (my own service) all

I've looked at that, it seems impressive, especially coupon system, but what's the cost, and if it's tied into a monthly expense, I'm not sure I can see getting started with that type of system - maybe later, if I have enough members I can consider it... it looks similar to JVM, but better
The most expensive thing you can do is build a membership in the wrong system just because you thought you were going to save a buck.

The power of our system is that it can and will make you more money if you use the features like one click upsell/downsell, micro continuity, and integrated physical on demand print and ship as well as physical continuity automation.

If you were to add just one upsell to the back end of one membership site you could likely increase your entire bottom line by 20-60%...

But with our system you can create unlimited membership sites with unlimited one click upsells and downsells on the back end of each one and manage it all from one centralized automation system and all without installing a single script.

I dont like companies charging a monthly fee for a software. Thats a rip off in my opinion. what if users dont want thing slike unlimited membership sites etc? Why hold them hostage. The software has to be extremely superior to be charging a monthly fee when the rest of the compeition are charging a one off fee. It better have gold nuggets in it. lol.

I currently use Easy Member Pro and its working quite well and their support is excellent and they get back to you promptly.

I have tried a few others. SMP is also a good program and JS provides excellent support.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, I guess.

I'm not using Josh's product though I might in the future if my business model calls for it; however as hosted e-commerce solution makes a lot of sense to me due to:

      • The ability to do nearly-continuous upgrades and fixes... and deploy them much quicker than if each system was installed on its own server
      • Support issues are way easier to deal with if everyone is using the same "version"
      • The level of technical expertise required by the average end user is far less than if they had a separate installation
Each of these are advantages, both for the vendor and customer.

You just have to decide whether the features are worth the cost to you, just like you have to make the same decision about other subscription-based services (cable TV, "optional" insurance such as AAA, pre-paid legal, etc).

        Darrel,

What is funny is that if you run a survey and ask people do you want hosted or a script running on your own server then a majority of people will say "script."

But most do not realize the advantages you list which are precisely the advantages of a hosted service. They allow people to focus on profit producing activities like content creation and marketing instead of having to focus on installation, development, and technical support.

I hear from companies on an almost daily basis talk about how they spent thousands trying to tweak and get some script to do what they want only to have to abandon it and look for a hosted solution to put an end to all the frustrations.

Also depending on the company you may benefit from other things as well...

For example our publishers have the benefit of providing their traffic with a gigabit connection to top of the line dedicated servers on a private cabinet. These resources could cost an individual a thousand dollars or more a month. Buying power allows us to obtain better resources than many publishers could afford to obtain on their own.

Additionally you may benefit from leveraged relationships with other service providers. For example we provide the only integrated membership, podcasting, and membership blog systems that can automatically ad subscribers to an aweber mailing list. Aweber does not support this for any self hosted script but because we are a hosted ecommerce service provider with an established relationship we can offer this to our clients.

I'm a huge fanboy for Wishlist Member. It's easy to set up -- even for non-techies -- and works like a charm. It's the core of my business, and I have utmost confidence in it, and the people behind it.

I would 2nd those that have referenced Fantasos (by John Delavera)...

And I think Brian mentioned Contepass with integrates very nicely with Fantasos.

However, I think John has said he is stopping the development of Fantasos (after 18 modification and numerous plugins).

With this said, I believe John is cooking something up of a new platform he has codenamed "D" (and he says it will be "free")... He say it will be unveiled on 05/17/09! Not sure what it will be, but if I know John, it will be pretty incredible.

Has anyone else heard about this?

I recently used drupal for a membership site, I have done over a hundred sites with drupal but that was the first membership site. It was easy, I used their ubercart module to handle the processing and drupals standard modules did the rest. I of course added a few modules like voting etc. and I got a theme from drupalthemesonly.com I went their because they don't force a backlink and my client didn't want one plus wanted it too fast for me to do my own theme..

Site was up in about an hour( I tweaked it and added functions for about a weak though, but it was great)

      @TheRookie,

The problem with your solution, is that while it certainly works as a membership site in that it acts as a walled garden and accepts recurring payments, there are so many specialized things that you will need as a marketer - like say...

      1) Content dripping: Make sure that not all of your content is available on day 1. So drip content like an email autoresponder drips content.

      2) Email autoresponder

      3) Affiliate Program

      4) Email broadcasting

      5) Content personalization

      And so on.

You can probably live without these features, but in order to really achieve success with a membership site, you will definitely need all of the above, and you will need a solution like DAP (see my signature below), or you will end up patching together many such modules, and will have to pray that they all work together.

      Just my $0.02.

      - Ravi Jayagopal

There is a lot of good info here. Now for me to add my .02. I am using memberspeed to develop my membership site and I love it. It definitely is not the easiest software to use, but I do like the functionality and the different plugins that it offers. Once you get going with the software it dies get easier to use.

I am looking for member site software for a consulting company. We are not in the business of selling internet 'info products'. Our website is Wolf Management Consultants Inc. A Comprehensive Consulting, Coaching and Training Firm

We are looking into setting up a membership site for our clients. They would have access to papers, training materials (including videos), consulting services, discussions forums, teleseminars (active and archived), business and personal coaching, etc.

What package would best accomodate our needs?

    Thanks,

  • I own a developer copy of Wishlist but I was really disappointed at the lack of focus on the design of a great site ... most of the effort goes into the installation of the software. Unfortunately Wishlist are not prepared to sell training on how to get the best out of their product...the training is closed until an undisclosed date which is of course no use to me! As I need it now. I also discovered they have a number of plugins they provide to their insider members but if you purchase that membership you cannot buy past bonuses, which kind of seems weird. So Im dropping them and Im looking for another solution.

To be fair to Wishlist they are great at sales but not selling your customers essential training on how to get the best out of the product that does not sound very good marketing to me.

I have some training that I want o put in a a members area so I can sell the courses . i.e. a 6 week course, 3 month course...etc. I was hoping that there would be an out of the xbox solution that I could adapt as I can't believe Im the only person that needs this...I notice some provide a demo..but when you buy the software you have to figure out for your self how to make that work. Bit like buying a kit car! I want to buy a car with options to change some stuff.

Any recommendations..only from people that have spent money and are not an affiliate or from a plugin provider. I was considering a hosted training solution anyone tried one of those?

I am just getting started setting up a site with DAP but so far I am very impressed with the customer service, the amount of features and how easily and powerfully it seems to integrate with wordpress and vbulletin.

The documentation is also very good.

Not only does it easily do the things I was hoping for that I thought might be tricky (giving certain privileges to certain members, integrating with autoresponder etc) - many of the features in this program are giving me ideas I hadn't even thought of.

I have not used others so I cannot compare it side by side but I am impressed.

I've been using amember (previously tried Wishlist and didn't like it at all, buggy and wasn't powerful enough to do what I wanted).

What I mostly needed was: drip content on wordpress + integration with vbulletin + customization of pages as I saw fit (not just in wordpress).

So amember ended up being the best solution for me. It is powerful but also has a lot of plugins and addons that end up doing what I needed it to do.

It's definitely not perfect and there are things that annoy me about it (the backend could be better for searching and managing users).

But customer support has been one of the best and they always answer my questions and provide custom scripts that fix my needs.

At the end of the day it depends on what you want your membership site to do. Sometimes what you think is "easy" may end up being more complicated than you first thought.. like how I felt about the drip content and a number of other things.

I still come up with things I want my membership site to do that would still require custom coding from PHP programmers.. but oh well I guess I just like more control over my sites.

I have been using Amember for years. The one thing that bugs me about it is that you have to keep paying an annual subscription to receive maintenance upgrades. If it were for new features, fair enough. But the upgrades are to correct security flaws in the original product.

Having said that, I wouldn't use anything else.

      Hey Guys,

I am hoping you can help me. I am putting together a membership site right now and I need it to do the following:

      1. I am not a programmer, so need something very easy to use. (Most Important)
      2. Needs to integrate with Wordpress easily.
      3. Would like to be able to have affiliates promoting it.
      4. Would like to have payments via paypal and another way for people who don't like paypal.
      5. Need it to be able to limit the amount of downloads the members can get in one day or hour, etc. For example, the member content will be audio downloads and also research and interviews. I want to protect the site from people who may join the site and then try to download all the content in one day. But the problem is they need to be able to access ALL of the content. So an example would be if I had 500 downloads available, they could download any of the 500 they wanted, after they reached a certain limit it would lock them out until the next day or something.

I had purchased an amember license about a year ago for another project and never ended up doing it. So if amember is a good fit, then I would love to get it working. The only problem is I'm not a coder and may need help getting it set up. Would anyone be able to offer some help for me? Either with amember? Or with another software that I may be able to do all of that with?

I would also be interested in paying someone to help me install it and get it set up to do what I want it to do. So if you can do that for me then please pm me or contact me with rates at my username at aol dot com.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks....
