Can anyone recommend a good domain grabber or tool for expiring domain names?

There is a domain name that I would like to grab that is nearing its expiry date. However, it is currently listed for sale a quite a high asking price.

I have reason to believe that the current owner is going to let the name expire. I don't really want to develop the domain right away but it does fit in nicely with a series of domain names that I have in the same niche. So there is no urgency for me to get the name or spend big bucks on it, but I really would like to have it all the same - I'm just not willing to pay the current asking price.

Can anyone recommend a good name grabbing/backordering service?

Snapnames.com. Backordering will cost you a minimum of $59, and you may get the domain for that if it does become available. Others will have the opportunity to bid higher.

It's really hard to get one of these any more unless you pony up. If it's really good you may just want to offer the owner direct. Sure you tip them off, but that's business.

Registrars can tie up domains for months while they "test" to see how much they can milk out of the domain.

Back in 2000 was about the last time I was able to target and scoop up existing domains for cheap... then registrars stepped in.
