Guys, Gals,

Whad up

Hey, you know the Download Helper site:

Code:
http://www.downloadhelper.net/
I find these people are a complete bunch of so and so's, kinda saying "hey it's ok if you joined a continuity program and forced to pay a monthly fee without the ability to download the files, well, now you can steal these videos even though the product owner prefers you to watch them online"

I have seen some sites that the download helper and other similar type plugins / desktop software that prevents that from happening.

Does anyone know of what type of code / scripts that prevents / blocks such unethical software from doing its nasty business?

Cheers

P.S
here's an example of a video that can't be downloaded / stolen via download helper

    Loz,

The only solution I know if is to use a service by Ooyala | Video Platform, Analytics and Advertising

They break the video up into thousands of tiny pieces in a different way to most streaming companies.

Trying to download one of the videos streamed thi way is very difficult.

    I hope this helps.

True, but consider what happens if you pay for a series of videos online and then the site gets taken down? That has happened to me a couple of times in one case I paid for a membership site and when I went back it was gone and subsequent emails and such are unanswered. That being said, I like the fact that you can download the videos in the members section of FSM.

Yeh, I know, but FSM is changing to a monthly subscription, and the downloads wont be available until the end of the 3rd or 6th month, they can watch it online until that time.

Is the issue really whether people watch the videos while staring at your site or that the downloaded videos could be misused?

There's nothing inherently evil about a download helper. I use one so I can save videos for later reference or convert them to a format for mobile viewing. If a site had a notice prohibiting the downloading of videos I'd abide by it but I've never seen such a notice, nor would I likely become a member of that site.

The product is not unethical. Some users may use the product in an unethical manner.

Guilty as charged. I forgot I was in the reviews section. My apologies.
