Best Free (or nearly free) Web Editor?

PRODUCT REVIEWS

Hello,

My name is Lawrence and I am from the UK. I just joined Warrior Forum today. I am just getting started with Internet Market and am struggling the web editors that I have been using todate. I have tried the NVU product (Komposer), but really can't get the hang of it and the functionality is very minimal. I have paid for a couple of other such as Really Easy Website Bulilder and Web Easy Professional 7.

Maybe its just me, but I find them all lacking in one way or another. Just curious if anyone knows of something really good thats not too dear (I don't want Dreamweaver or Microsoft Front Page).

Any help out there please?

Hi Lawrence,

Welcome to warriorforum.

You may check out Wordpress.com; you can host it for free on your site. You can use some plugins to tweak it into some non-blog type of site, if that's what you are after.

if you have some capital, go with Xsitepro.

  Wordpress is an excellent start place but it's more of a platform with basic editing capabilities. rather than an editor
  
  Then you have trusty old text edit (or variations) which is probably the best way to edit html quickly.
  
  If you need visuals then NVU is pretty decent and absolutely free.
  
  I like Dreamweaver if you have cash to throw...

  I've heard that DreamWeaver pretty good, but hard to use and costs an arm an a leg. Guess if you do enough website creation and editing it would be worth the cost and effort.

  Do you know if you can create a website with aptana? Most Web Editor sofware can only edit and not create. I would like to do both.

I'm for wordpress. It's highly customizable as there are many themes, plugins for you to fiddle with later on as you gain more experience. It's not a html editor though. It's more of a cms (central management system for your site).

For a free Html site builder Kompozer gets my vote.

Hi Adam,
I tried Kompozer, but didn't really get on with it that well. It seemed very limited, but I guess since it's free, one can't complain. I was hoping there was something a bit better, even If I have to pay a little for it. The posts above have recommended a number of Website Editors, so I will have a look at them. Just didn't think that a full-blown Dreamweaver type of product would be cost effective for me at this stage.

I agree Kompozer is limited, but as you said it is free. You pay for what you get! As a free editor I think its brilliant. If it was $200 I wouldn't be that impressed

CoffeCup has a Free HTML Editor, and if you don't like html, there is another product from them: Visual Site Designer. Affordable price and you can get a 30-days Free trial.

When I made my own sites, I always used Komposer. Now I use Wordpress for everything...and when I say Wordpress I mean a self hosted wordpress site (at wordpress.org), not a free site (at wordpress.com).

what's wrong with FrontPage? You can get it cheap on Ebay.

I use xsite pro for my websites and have also used wordpress, both are great. Wordpress is free, so you can try it and see what you think, Most hosting companies will have an icon for it on their control panel. I have also used NVU to create simple html pages, I agree it is not very user friendly. If I just need to edit an html page I use PSPad, also free. Just google these if interested. Hope this didn't just muddy the water.
