Frank Kern's - Good Karma List Machine

I was really keen to install and implement Frank Kern's Free - Good Karma List Machine Script but as i browsed the comments on Frank's website I came across the following comment:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Excellent product except not useful for Europe. The EU recently passed a law that forbid rewarding people that recommend your product to others by email. I guess they call it abuse of the electronic messaging systems. I personally call it a way to close free enterprise and marketing creativity. What can you do? Move I guess. Frank, is the apartment besides yours still free? So we can share out Internet connection! "
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Being relatively new to IM and Not wanting to break any laws; I thought I would post this in the Forum in an attempt to confirm whether this law exists or not; and too provide a heads up to other EU marketers.

Can anyone then confirm or otherwise deny that this EU law exists?

Many Thanks
Rodopi

I've never heard by this EU law. I'm also interested if it exist and apply only to European Union or all Europe.

Sounds like a load of BS to me, you can do what ever you want, for as long as one abides by the CANNSPAM regulations.

BTW, that script ONLY works if you're with Aweber... sucks for those who are with icontact or getresponse.

I was surprised they didn't throw their affiliate links for Aweber into this promo. Would of added a ton of $$$. And I would of thought if people are going to sign up they wouldn't mind throwing them the affiliate commission.

      Frank's weird!

Frank knows that GEEKS only buy things is they really have to have them and they can't find ANY way around the purchase, but present them with anything that smells a little like an affiliate link and they will one of a sudden rather chose to be eaten by a beast than pay their way to safety. I hear ya and agree. I just figured they'd provide two links.. a non affiliate link and a affiliate link that tells people they will get paid if they use it.

Most would be more than happy to use their link after the amount of good stuff they've given away. Somehow I think they'll do okay anyway

Well I guess he just followed the simple reciprocity thing :

If I sign up to Aweber using his referral link, then I'll feel relieved from the huge gift he's just offered to me. He makes ten bucks.

If I can't reciprocate this way, then the only way I don't feel guilty to use the awesome tools and tricks... is by buying List Control.
            He makes two grand.

Sounds like an easy choice to me

That's a good point, plus it demonstrates an abundance mindset. i.e. If he is throwing away all the affiliate commissions he could have earned from these then he must have the skills to pay the bills...

I managed to lost the .zip I downloaded whene I went to install it however with all this talk of errors and laws against it perhaps it was for the best!

I installed List Machine and spent 4-5 hours getting everything set up the way I wanted it. I tried to log in the next day and the password I set up didn't work.

I thought it might be a fluke, so I removed everything my server, deleted the MySQL database related to the install, and re-installed. Well... I did that 4 times and kept having the same damn problem with this "$12,000" piece of software.

I e-mailed Frank's support a few minutes ago. Let's see if I get any kind of response.

Hey Steve - I have the exact same problem. My client wants to use the script and I haven't been able to get it to work due to the login problem (and lost 2 hours in the process). Could you let us know if Frank's support sends you anything useful?

The other Frank Kern Listmachine thread got deleted, but it had several others reporting the same login problem.

                    Here's the support manager's response:

"Yes, we've heard this from quite a few people, so we're having our programmer work on a fix - as soon as it's ready, we'll release it. Sorry for the hassle."

I absolutely would expect support for free software that is given out during one of the biggest launches of the year. How can you say "I have techniques that will fix your list building challenge" and one of those techniques doesn't even work properly? I don't know about you, but if I didn't know who Frank was I sure woundn't have confidence in buying his stuff after losing hours of work from software that doesn't work properly. It's a credibility issue for me.

And if he or someone in his company never got back to me about it, what would make me think he's got the customer's best interest in mind?

I was going to release a patch (on behalf of myself), but I found out that most of the code was most likely ripped off commercial software .. so no I'm not going to release one

I agree and i did it quite a few times myself even if it doesn't make sense:

1/ You don't lose any money
2/ If you purchase, doesn't the person who referred you diserve a little something too ?

Some time ago I was very happy about an offer so I kept the cookie because I was grateful to the guy and wanted him to be rewarded for that. A couple weeks later, I did clear a cookie because the product I was buying had been promoted to me through email spam and I hate this. It was a good product but still, this kind of promotion doesn't diserve any reward (it would be encouraging it anyway).

In the UK, there is a constant stream of misinformation about the EU. People don't like the faceless, bureaucratic, undemocratic system in Brussels and so tend to believe any tale with a "1984" tone to it.

This sounds to me like a distorted version of the recent FTC ruling. If you're interested in the product, I wouldn't let this put you off.

I couldn'd get it to work on my dedicated server either.
The program uses the Smarty Templates system, which can be temperamental at times.
There also seems to be quite a few permissions issues to solve.
So, I guess Blueshost is the easy option if you weant to use this script.

    One other thing:
AWeber says that "Tell A Friend" type scripts
"are not in any way permitted for use with AWeber."
(see Tell A Friend Forms Are Not Opt-In )

Wonder how they regard the use of Frank's script, as it uses AWeber to send out the original message, which then diverts to the Tell A Friend script?

    cheers,

Good Q, cos it's a bit of a thin line.

Cos really people sign up to receive either a) information, or b) a free product, so what does it matter if you (the admin) referred them, or others referred them?

      hmmmm

Viral Friend generator has been around a few years and no complaint ever came up about that.
I suppose we can just ask the founder of Aweber, since he is a member on this forum.
I'll post him a PM directing him to this topic and we'll clear it up.

Frank's form is just fine, in no way does it have the user input his FRIENDS email addresses and send out more emails from the server to get the friends to sign up.

So My Subscribers Can't Refer Others to My List?

They can, and we do recommend that you take advantage of referral/word-of-mouth marketing, but you need to do it in a way that still gets everyone's permission before you start emailing them.
What we recommend as an alternative is adding a section to your messages that:
      • Encourages Subscribers to Pass the Message to Others
      • Tells People How to Sign Up to Your List
That way, your subscribers can forward your messages themselves to their friends, rather than generating a message sent by you through some sort of form.

I see a couple people already mentioned using Getresponse. I would like to be contacted if anyone has any good ideas how to modify it. Not a programmer, but I can cut & paste. There must be a fairly easy way to change it, since it's such a simple script.

Can't believe he paid $12K for it. They must have seen him coming. He could have probably got it a lot cheaper using one of his aliases. But, to him, I guess that's just pocket change.

I don't agree with the TAF opinion at Aweber, but they're entitled to it. I'm still wondering how something can be called Good Karma if it doesn't work after you install it (you can't get back in the admin panel) and there is zero documentation now that the video has been taken down.

Well this Good Karma List Machine generated a lot of traffic for Frank and now that he made all the money on his new launch the free tool he gave away is being ignored it seems.

But the argument will be, why complain it was FREE, right?

It would be a nice little script to use to build a list though, its just too bad it don't work and there is no update or any mention of it being on the radar for being updated.

I've installed it on Kiosk servers. You just have to know what file permissions need to be changed. As for the rights, you only have the rights that were expressly given to you which means personal use only and you do not have the right to edit the code in any way.

I wiped out the database and deleted the files from my server and then reinstalled.

It worked but then I couldn't not paste any html into the front page box. I logged out to see what would happen and sure enough. No way back in.

It failed again. So I guess it is just a waiting game until the working version is released.

I also had a problem with the front page form field in the back end not allowing you to paste in html.

It kept stripping out the code and just pasting in the text.

        Hi folks,

I never realized that I'd be searching for one of Frank Kern's videos as I did his good karma list machine one but I really wanted to see how to setup to set it.

When I originally watched the video, I thought cool and that I would get back to it but didn't know he'd be so quickly pull it off.

Luckily I found the script and got it installed on my host but I'm stuck at the Aweber configs. I'm new to all of this and just got Aweber a few days ago so what are values for:

        Aweber Merchant ID:
        Aweber Merchant Form:

        ??

Glad I found this forum as well during my search.. looks like this will be an amazing resource!

        Cheers!

In what way is that illegal? Its just the installation tutorial which was freely avaiable on his site b4 it got taken down. Nothing illegal about making it avaiable for people who want to be able to install it. I doubt Frank would even care.

Well, if you're trying to paste HTML as in "I select text on a web page and copy and then try to paste it into the textarea", then yeah, it won't work.

If you do it as Frank shows on the video, and you copy the HTML *CODE*, as in "i hit the Show Source Code button in my browser, copy the code, and then paste it",
        then it should work.

    What a great thread!
    Thanks all.

Regarding the "Tell a Friend" script...
When you send out your e-mail to a friend with that on it & your friend adds their friends names to the list...don't they just get an "info e-mail from the friend who sent it, about your stuff as a "suggestion"...like Word of mouth about a great movie etc"?

Wouldn't it be up to the friends to submit their first request for more info form to you, via Aweber, wait for the confirm e-mail, click that & then become an opt-in subscriber to your list?

That's how I thought it worked.

He distinctly said the software was designed to work with Blue Host & Aweber.
There's a line I'm sure I read somewhere, where it said that it was for "your personal use only"

He's a clever marketer for sure & one I admire greatly.

He nails it with his mindset about how we really must know our markets desires & prepare our products to deliver appetizers, the step by step results towards their desires.

I enjoyed the info he gave out, for free!
No where else in the world would you be able to get this type of info from any business about how they operate, other than the internet!

    Thanks so much Frank Kern.
Thanks everyone on this thread too.
    I have learned heaps.

I'm not sure what your asking for, just Frank's videos or the course itself?

Anyways, I have all the videos and downloads from Franks List Control launch and I'd be glad to upload them for you.

      Here's what I've got:
      • Both Good Karma list machine videos
      • The 4 day cash machine vid
      • Core Influence 1 & 2
      • Mysterious Stranger Video
      • And Franks actual pitch videos (LC pitch, Core Influence Pitch, etc.)
      • All the downloads (Good Karma List Machine, 4 day cash machine download)
      • Also got an interview call with Frank and Andy Jenkins that took place during the launch

Just PM me or email me at if your interested.

P.S. - If anyone else is interested in these materials I'd be more than happy to share the love.

      **EDIT**
I've been getting a ton of PMs about Frank's Good Karma List builder. Unfortunately, I can't reply to your PMs because I don't have 50 posts yet. Please include your email when you PM me otherwise I won't be able to send you Frank's files.

Hey Amanda, thanks for this. It seems you have the inside edge on this one... if/when you hear of public release it'll be great if you could post something here.

Do you know if he'll also be killing the rumour about the supposed "cease-and-desist"?

(I'm just thinking long term about using 100% legal software which I don't suddenly have to stop using one day. I have always loved Frank's stuff and would be hugely surprised if there's anything to the rumour - but you gotta check these things in business...)

I'll post if I hear anything about a patch.

I don't know any details about the cease and desist, but I do know that Frank used a design/build firm to produce the software, so any problems would stop with them and not Frank's company.

I don't want to derail this thread or speculate on the allegations...but if code was used illegally then anyone using it could be held liable. Including those distributing it or using it on their site. Everyone from the coding company to Frank to individual users could be affected.

Again, these are just allegations so we don't if there is any truth to them. But it's not correct to think that the problems stop at the coders.

I used the video posted by Frank (and re-posted by someone on this forum...kudos for that!) and had my entire site up and running in less than 2 hours. I haven't had any trouble logging in to my Admin account over the last week, and I've run a few test emails through the system to make sure it works ok. Everything seems fine as far as I can tell. So I'm a little confused on why some of you are having all this trouble with the GKLM? Could it be hardware/software compatability issues on your own machines?

At a guess, and to the best of my limited techie knowledge, its the difference between PHP4 (the language in which GKLM is written and not always suppported by hosting companies) and PHP5 (the more standard and supported version).

Have PHP4 support on your host, all is well. Have PHP5 (and not PHP4) and all is not well.

So hopefully GKLM2.0 will be PHP5 friendly.

But hey I could be talking complete nonsense... so if any super-tech wants to correct me... feel free!

It works fine on all hosts ... that is .. if you fix the admin login issue .. php4 code CAN run on php5 hosting .. which bluehost is .. and nearly EVERY other host ..

The problem is that it's not Frank's code to give away .. his developers Ripped it off from SocialEngine .. therefore, in order to use GKLM you MUST have a SocialEngine license

Hi, l was able to get a free copy of this a while ago, l can't access the main screen at the moment. But off the top of my head if you type in "admin" then "admin" again it should allow access to the pages or "your code" then "admin".

The software works quite well so it is worth mucking around with, and just use the login page text box as a test for the pages that you can't see after burning all your emails.

And be careful it tables, (keep everything in a small space in the middle of the screen) for all the pages except the download page, so if you put something on there it may be a mess because it won't center it.

                      Good luck.

P.S. I almost forgot to say that l have used this with Hostgator without any hassles apart from the fact that if you have several websites with them and try to install it on any site it will basically destroy the PHP. script on the primary site for all the pages except the home page, so it is strongly advisable to create a new account and install it on the primary site.

I can still use the wrecked site, but there is no SEO on any of my pages except the home page, and the PHP side of the site doesn't exist, although the sitebuilder part works fine.

Have PHP4 support on your host, all is well. Have PHP5 (and not PHP4) and all is not well.

So hopefully GKLM2.0 will be PHP5 friendly.

But hey I could be talking complete nonsense... so if any super-tech wants to correct me... feel free!
Partially correct. php5 is backwards compatible. The problem is the script is broken. After you reset the password you can't get back in.

Hmmm... the script isn't counting new confirmed signups as confirmed referral's. Anyone know why? (programmers?)

It will only be available to buyers from what I've read. Don't expect any updates. It was a launch hype-builder and nothing more. Looks for copycat scripts soon with better features. I'm sure they're around the corner soon.

I received an invite to ShoeMoney today shoemoneyx.com
He has the aweber sign-up box and his viral script works like a charm as I tested it to 5 email accounts I own. I received the aweber double opt-in emails, the thank you for referring emails and the free gift email.

I haven't watched Good Karma video in over 30 days, but from what I remember Shoemoney ran smoother & easier and WORKED. What is Shoe using??

I think Frank did a good job with his idea to give valuable teaching & some stuff away.

It's a shame the gizmo let him down.

I find him to be an outstanding marketer, who I can learn sooo much from.
He appears reputable & a great mentor, so I see no need to doubt his integrity with a FREE gizmo mishap!

Depends upon one's skill levels I guess, is when you take advantage of something like Good Karma or not.
    It left me wayyy behind!

I enjoyed the better gift much more...
    4 day Cash Machine.
I learned heaps from that sequence.

I also like the videos he gave away too.
Took notes, wrote a short overview of the whole "customer know & love" idea he put forth & this has changed my life!

    Good one Frank!

    Good Karma will come...
    Kindest,
    Mary

Just take the text you used to have on the old landing page, and paste it into the home page of your Good Karma List Machine.

Aren't Hostmonster & Blue Host owned by the same guy?

Would it be wrong to assume then, that they both have the same platform & C-Panel?

Amazing stuff you pick up along the way...

    Thanks all!

I guess they call it abuse of the electronic messaging systems. I personally call it a way to close free enterprise and marketing creativity. What can you do? Move I guess. Frank, is the apartment besides yours still free? So we can share out Internet connection! "

Being relatively new to IM and Not wanting to break any laws; I thought I would post this in the Forum in an attempt to confirm whether this law exists or not; and too provide a heads up to other EU marketers.

Can anyone then confirm or otherwise deny that this EU law exists?

    Many Thanks

When starting out... most of my offline ventures (as it relates to gov regulations, Lic etc) I function under the rule of "It is better to ask for "forgiveness " then "Permission". Once the venture has shown some promise... then I operate by the book.

I have started several business on a shoestring, which grew to a nice size. And I have also dropped ventures which proved disappointing and I save thousands.

A new version was always planned for List Control customers - with the additional features etc.

No idea if he'll go back and issue a new version of the free software though.

    HI,
I've just got into IM and have tried quite a few things out over the past months.
They all include promoting affiliates so lets hope that the supposed law against it is just another Euro un-policeable idea.
I wonder who comes up with these things ?. It seems to be one a day at the moment !

    Chin up everybody !!

Actually, in the installation tutorials he was VERY insistent that it may not work on other hosts, but did work on Blue Host & that was the only one he could recommend.

He went on & on about that point.

I hope it all works out for him, as he was trying to help everyone.

Just shows you tho...We don't know everything about a subject; yet anyways!

Reminds me of my friend this week, with a bit of knowledge in that area, she gets a new tool & goes ahead, using her own skills, not looking at the tutorials provided & wondered why there are problems with the new product & totally missed the added benefits the new tool was made to produce...

You just need a webhost with PHP 5/MySQL to install ViralListMachine (much better than GKLM).

Just checking (VLM) it out, seems a little confusing in that if i was wanting to get the viral bribe how would i send the referal e-mail to my friends other than manually? like isnt there a place where i can put say 5 of my friends e-mails or is this off the mark?

I realise I am high -jacking this thread but thought i would share what i have found when looking a little deeper, has anyone heard of Viralinviter - The Most Badass Traffic Software Out there. looks really good and incidently frank kern talks about it in the video on the site and filsame raves about it too. Does look good and filsame obviously believes its better than his own product judging bty the video!

To be honest, all those will just boost traffic you already have. Like, if you got 5K visitors a day, it will boost it to 7K a day.

But if you got little to no traffic, I don't think those "viral" script will help at all.
