Forum Software Suggestions?

Hi Fellow Warriors!

Quick question-- I am about to create a forum for a niche website of mine and I was looking at VBulletin. It costs $295 for the license.

However, I have also heard that phpBB and Simple Machines Forum are great forums too.

I guess my question is:

Is the $295 dollars WORTH VBulletin, or is phpBB better? Or is SMF better?

What is the best forum software out there?

Thanks!
Ali

I think the money is well spent for vbulletin if you can afford it, it is the most used forum script used by big forums. I knew that some of the people won't join a forum if it wasn't powered by vbulletin.

That's what I'm thinking too. I'd rather just pay the $300 and get the best.

But if phpBB or SMF have 95% of the stuff for free, and I wont ever use the other 5%... then the $300 would be a sunk cost, you know?
