Ryan's Social Media Manager?

One of my associates was asking me about Ryan Deiss' Social Media Manager (letsgetsocial.com) - not an affiliate link.

I searched the forum but couldn't find anything, maybe because it's pretty new, apparently Frank Kern emailed about it this morning.

Can anyone pass on some info if it's good/bad/worth it or not so I can tell my associate? (He doesn't get to forums, but was wondering if it's worth it for his job even, to add value to what he does for his contracts)

Yes - the 17 minute presentation is alot longer than that, but at the end of it I decided on the basis of $97 money back guarantee etc that I'd give it a try.

That's when the 'fun' started. The payment system wouldn't accept my Amex or Mastercard (I knew both were fine as had used them earlier in the day). After three attempts I nearly gave up - so phoned the Customer Support line and made the purchase.

I've got a password and login but each time over the past couple of days an error message comes up!. Called Customer Support again and apparently the site is down.

If you're watching Jeff Walkers Product Launch 3.0 pre-launch videos you'll note the things he mentions that can go wrong in a Product Launch.
Seems I'm in the midst of one!

I'm still no further forward! Still can't access the information. I'm buying this course on the basis that my nephew is looking for an additional income source. He's a FB and Twitter fanatic so I figured he might as well get paid for it.

Yep - my associate decided to give it a try too. Not sure how it is, he's been awefully quiet today so I assume he's right into it.

One thing he did say regarding the one time offers/upsells - he paid through paypal and wasn't given any upsell offers, so I wonder if that is a credit card thing? (You know, some systems aren't set up to offer the upsells when you pay by paypal?) I thought it was wierd when he told me that, but maybe they're also just testing and randomly offering the upsells, not to everyone.

He'll probably let me know more tomorrow, I can post then. Or maybe I'll just get it and do a review myself lol (Now even I'm curious)

I'm actually posting a review-imagine that. Not that I can complain-I'm guilty of cluttering threads with chit-chat posts too-but wow-18 posts and nothing but a single review...of an ordering problem. [MODERATOR NOTE: A lot of the irrelevant posts have now been deleted.]

Hang in there isee-I think it seems worth it so far-though I've only gone through a fraction of the site as yet. I had no problem ordering with cc; sorry to hear of yours.

Sorry this isn't more informed-I've only had time so far to look once at a small portion of the program, and forgot a few details:

There is an upsell, but not an oto-it's just an offer to have your social media accounts set up for you to get up and running with professional looking pages quickly if you don't know how yet. The offer is repeated on the inside, with no time limit. I figured that would be silly, since that's one of the things you'll be doing for clients-might as well learn by creating your own to start.

The core of the program is 6 training modules with video supplemented by PDFs. It's really Kate Buck's program; Ryan's her JV partner, and interviews her in the intro module, and after that (so far), Kate takes it. I found her easy to listen to and she does a great job of pacing the info and making it digestible. The modules are:

    1) Introduction: 32:32 minutes
    2) Branding You: 38:50
    3) Service Offerings 22:31
    4) Doing The Work 16:39
    5) Finding Clients 31:31
    6) Nuts and Bolts 22:05

So far I've watched all of the first two, and #5 on getting clients.

Although the intro is fairly basic, it was a decent introduction to what her business and course is all about-I need to listen again, as you'll soon see.

I thought the second one had lots of good ideas about how to get started right so that you look professional, and establish yourself as a credible business. She talked about creating a consistent look, making it work with your personality, and considerations to take into account when deciding whether to brand yourself personally with your name, or as a company. She stresses the importance of always demonstrating your services by having quality pages for yourself on all your social media accounts first-clients look for that. She got into lots of other branding stuff too-pretty good grounding material.

The client getting module was pretty good in a general way-mostly she talks about networking both on and offline, making friends, starting with who you know, not being too "salesy", etc. I was kind of hoping for more step by step detailed methods of landing clients, but there are plenty of those around, and she was speaking from her experience, which has been a pretty natural approach, as opposed to specific techniques like you can find on offlineisagoldmine, and in plenty of WSOs.

Outside of the training modules section, there are 3 other tabs: Resources, Coaching, and Social Insiders Club.

I haven't gotten far, but I found the resources tab contains a collection of links to tools Kate finds useful, also a bunch of wordpress tutorials, some short video tutorials on uploading Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook backgrounds, and Wordpress themes, and a paypal section on how to do everything from setting up your account to creating a buy now button in Dreamweaver.

The coaching tab has a box for you to ask questions for Kate to answer in one of her weekly coaching calls. It says that over the next 4 weeks, Kate will "personally coach you" so you'll "never have a question that goes unanswered". It also contains archived calls (1 so far, but with three spaces for new ones-the second call is tomorrow).

She tries to cover the questions that come in during the week first, and then goes to the live callers that raised their hands by pressing 1, in the order they were received. I've only listened to a few minutes of the first call. I don't know if she gets to all the questions or not, but my impression based on her relaxed style and apparent professionalism and knowledge, is that this could be a pretty cool part of the program. I think after 4 weeks are up, the calls might be part of the "Social Insiders Club" which you get a 30 day trial of, and then you have to pay 20-something a month-not positive on that though.

They could do with an FAQ section, which they don't have so far, but they are adding to the site as they go. I forget some of the details that I probably heard about the insiders club fee in the introductory video, and it would be nice to look my questions up instead of listening to the whole video again.

The "Social Insiders Club" tab includes three topics-Q and A calls, which is redundant-contains the exact same thing as the coaching tab, the Monthly Nuts and Bolts where she says she'll cover the latest trends, tools, etc, but there's nothing there so far, and the insider interview, where she interviews a successful social media manager-and there's one interview stored so far. I listened to about 5 minutes of it before bed last night-seemed pretty good.

They also said, in response to requests, that they're going to add another module that goes into more detail on how to set up your facebook fanpage, so they seem to be responding to members, which bodes well.

That's about all I know so far-it seems worth the price for me, but there are still some things you'll need to figure out on your own, or get help with. I think it's totally possible that with perseverance a person could use this as a guide to start their own successful social media manager career. If I'm right, I'd say $97 is a good investment, but I'm not sure how long they will keep it open, or keep it at that price-it is a class, and I hope they limit the size, just so they can be responsive to existing members.

Oh yes-they have a contact us support number, but I called it and got voicemail. I didn't leave one, but I should, just to see how long it takes to get a response-for some reason, most of the programs I've ever tried never do return their calls, and often don't respond to tickets either-drives me mad. They do give the ticket option as well, and here's hoping they are a lot more responsive than most of the teaching programs out there.

Overall, I give it a B, which could change to an A if they do a great job of adding to it as we go.

    Hope someone finds that helpful.

Thank you Greg guitar for an excellent review! I bought it just because I'm interested in the niche and I'm a bit into module 2 so far and so far I like it although pretty basic. But I'm positive it'll be a great product if they ad a FAQ as you say and give good support. Overall a good product.

I forgot to address this-I'm with Amber; you could start a business with it imo, but you might need to occasionally refer to wiki, google, or youtube for something that isn't covered in enough detail in the course, and Kate, like I said, seems willing to answer all questions. I would suggest supplementing it with some of the great WSOs on methods of getting clients; Imran has a cool free one right now, and Maria Gudelis always puts out great stuff.

I don't think anyone could guarantee you an immediate income though-you might have to get a little creative with marketing, but you probably could be getting clients within a few weeks, and then use referral systems for getting more. I have some great resources on referrals, and I might start sharing some ideas on that.

Feel free to ask-I can't hand you my materials because they are proprietary, and I'd be ripping off the authors, but I can share some of the ideas I've absorbed from various sources; after all they learned a lot of stuff from other people too.

The bottom line is, like most viable business models, you will probably excel if you take massive action to make it happen. I hope you do-it's definitely worth $97 imo.

I've gone through all the training modules, too, and although it's not quite fair for me to say so (since I am not a newbie to internet or to business), I think it's entirely possible to build a service business with what they've provided. In fact, I recommended it to my list as something that they could use by itself, or add as a service to what they are already offering.

It is a little light in the customer acquisition arena, and in the running the business arena, but not as sketchy as some other products I've seen with a much higher price tag. Suggestions and templates are given, it's just a bit light on detail and strategies.

I haven't gone through all their "resources" or the additional "how-to" videos yet, but feel confident that someone who enjoys social media could use this to create a business. I also think it could provide valuable information for someone who simply wants more information on how to position him/herself using Twitter and Facebook, etc.

And I think it's worth the $97 price tag.

Greg and KDarden - thanks for your thorough reviews. I did end up buying it last week for the sake of going through it too... just haven't had the time as I'm pretty busy with a few things of my own still.

Regarding their email/ticket support (from my experience):

Expect canned responses. "Maybe" a person?

I submitted a presales question (under billing I think) - to ask a few things that no one seemed to know (upsells, how long was it going to be live at that price, etc).

Within a day, I got a canned response that thanked me for submitting my request and someone would get back to me soon, but here were somethings that might help, such as why I was being billed $27 a month or something like that for some product (Ryan's-nicheology I think).

Anyway, it was totally unrelated to what I was asking... after I finally gave in and joined to get answers for my associate (and review it myself), I logged back in and closed the ticket since it was irrelevant now.

I got another canned response (same as the first one).

Funny... about a few days ago I got *another* canned response thanking me for my submission and someone would be getting back to me, with the exact same info above.

So obviously no one actually read or bothered to reply to my ticket except by automated response (which was TOTALLY not helpful). There wasn't a spot to ask about the Let's Get Social / Social Media Manager system, it assumed I was another type of customer.

I'm not bashing, perhaps if someone has a real question it might be answered, but after a week and no one actually responded properly, (when it is a ticketing system), I found that a little on the low end of "pre sales". I totally understand emails can be lost, have had that happen myself - but it shouldn't happen when using a ticketing system. (My thoughts anyway, it looked like they were using a reputable helpdesk system, I've used a few that were total garbage, so it's "possible" it got missed I suppose).

I only scanned the members area - didn't see any upgrade options for the monthly part, but again - I only did a quick scan...

too many things still on my plate that I need to finish first.

      Amber

Amber, thanks for your report on the support-for some (maddening) reason, this seems to be the weakness with even the top programs, although surely there are some that are responsive. Every IM teacher preaches to give great support, and so far none I've experienced, except Maria Gudelis and Jason Fladlien have modeled it. I did a trial of Frank Kern's "Screw Google" and created 2 tickets-never heard back. And I'm a Kern fan (who isn't), so it was really frustrating.

I will say that Kate was incredibly patient and thorough on her weekly phone call yesterday-the phone calls are done for the purpose of answering questions, but that's a mixed bag for me, because it took over 3 hours, and for anyone but a newbie, I'd say 90% of the questions were superfluous. I mean, there were a bunch of people who said they'd never been on facebook, "what's a status update?"-that type of thing.

In the beginning of the call, they said please stick to questions that aren't covered in the course, but of course nobody paid any attention-besides, most (like us), hadn't gone through it all yet anyway. Kate would tell a lot of callers that she covered their question, and where to find it, but then would politely repeat it all, and everyone had to ask 3-4 follow-up questions. It's like going to school with people that are 3 grades behind you, with a class size in the five figures.

Everybody naturally wanted to thank and complement Kate, but I started regreting that we were probably spending a good 20 minutes listening to pleasantries-who has time for that. They said they would close the program from time to time to limit the size of it to make the calls manageable, but I kind of think it's gone beyond that point already.

I plan to suggest they do something about it-perhaps have two calls a week-one for newbies, or make the calls into PDF files so people with limited time can just scan it later. You can ask questions ahead of time, and listen later-but you still have to wade through tons of junk that way.

To her credit, Kate recorded answers to a bunch of the questions ahead of time, to shorten the call. I haven't had a chance to listen to that-hopefully it's not as much basic stuff-I'm really considering not listening. Maybe you could listen and tell me if it's all newbie stuff Amber, since I just possibly saved you the trouble of listening to the live call.

Negative as that sounds (sorry-had to get it off my chest), I still feel like the $97 was well spent-even if I never listen to another call. I think the expert interviews will be a way cooler resource.

Hi Greg - thanks for the info re: the call LOL - you definitely saved me 3 hrs!
I'll listen to the others and let you know.

It would definitely be a great idea for them to have two calls - newbie vs. intermediate to experienced marketers who know the concepts/sites.

I'm off to enjoy the pool for the rest of the day... have friends coming over to celebrate my daughter's grad.

I'll be able to listen either tonight or by Monday morning.

can some1 who's got this course pls comment more on the content of the course? particularly the "Nuts & Bolts" of actually managing others' social media accts? I hav an existing outsourcing biz, n social media is def a service I'll be offering, just want the best training on wat to offer, how much to charge, n how to actually do it (to train my staff).

would u recommend this course for the above needs?

She breaks down the kind of offerings you might put out onto the market (the classic Bronze, Silver, Gold type approach) and does talk about her model for pricing.

There is also a section in the later stuff about day-to-day tasks that might match those levels - I think it's a good thing you have some outsourcing in place, as it looks like a load of work (time) for each landed account.

I'd be more concerned about trying to pass the "personal touch" stuff to a VA unless they are really good and you have them involved in picking up the customer's style from the very beginning. ie at every meeting. I'm still thinking it through for myself.

That's kind of where I am with it. I bought the course and reviewed the material. While setting up a site to kick this thing off I was doing keyword research for competition in my area and found that this might not be that easy to break into. First of all, Social Media management appears more of an upsel than it does it's own product. Many Web Development and/or SEO Firms offer SM Management as an added service. Some even offer cheap consulting fees. But what I've noticed is that many of them don't get involved in SM and after the consultation they allow the client themselves to run the SM aspect of the marketing campaign. I think that getting involved in this 'business' may make you a few bucks going after the low hanging fruit but it won't be long term. In order to make this work, you have to mix this into other services you may be able to offer.

I'm finding Let's Be Social to be a great investment for $97. My sister and I have started a business based on this model. In the 3 weeks since I first listened to the promo interview, we've:

      1. Completed all the modules
      2. Identified our niche
      3. Created our service packages
      4. Logo and branding done
      5. Website 75% done and up this week
      6. Fanpage and Twitter up
      7. And started working with our first client.
For a lot of people here, social media isn't rocket science but for so many others it is. Sadly some of those people were on that 3 hour coaching call with Kate, who was incredibly patient under the circumstances.

But if you have social media experience, this is a good opportunity if you pick a needy niche who wouldn't typically be hiring the services of a marketing/pr firm. Lot's of low-hanging fruit out there

BTW - despite my name here on the forum, I'm definitely not an extreme newbie anymore, especially on social media!!

Congrats XtremeNewbie on your starting success

That's what I like to hear - people taking action!

I have gotten through half of the course (fist 3) last week - I've got other sites that demand my time that we're trying to release, so I haven't had time to finish (booked myself on an hour a day to finish) - so far a good portion of it is not new to me, but I've been marketing online for 13 years, so it takes a lot to be new

However, it has given me some new takes on things (and a few things I didn't think about).

Like others, I already thought similar... the opportunity is definitely there (as was mentioned) for the 'low lying fruit', but also - and to me most importantly - to do it for myself and a few clients I already have.

I just have to figure out getting the time to finish the last 3 parts (But I plan to this week).

Thanks Amber At this point in life, if something really "speaks" to me, I don't sit around thinking about it. It really won't take you long to get through those last 3 lessons - the 4th is the most detailed one but easy if you already know Facebook, Twitter, etc. After 13 years online, you probably know this material like the back of your hand!!

My sense is that Ryan and Kate are catching this social media manager niche as it's building momentum. I love being on the cutting edge of a new trend - or as close as you can get to that these days.

I really was surprised though that so many people signed up who have no experience with social media. On that 3 hour marathon coaching call Kate Buck had, I got the sense that there were quite a few traditional advertising types want to add social media to their toolkit.

That call actually gave me a new level of confidence because while I may not know as much as Kate, I know a lot more than a lot of people on the call - and maybe more importantly - more than most people I know

Funny I was just thinking how this is almost my Warrior Forum anniversary - I joined last August. I've learned so much here since then

I just have to figure out getting the time to finish the last 3 parts (But I plan to this week).

Yes, a lot of it - but I'm picking up a few "new" ideas I have set aside a day early next week, that if at worst I don't finish the last 3 lessons this week, I WILL have it done at the beginning of next. I blocked off the time in my schedule to ensure it. (Time crunch on a launch right now this week so I'm trying not to get distracted).

That is one of the key things that will help your success - being at the "start" or near it... and not only that, recognizing it.

That call actually gave me a new level of confidence because while I may not know as much as Kate, I know a lot more than a lot of people on the call - and maybe more importantly - more than most people I know
hehehe - yeah, I'm glad she changed the format a little in the latest call announcement (even though I listen after).

I found this actually this morning (wasn't looking for it, but it's on my list of sites I check out every morning):

It's definitely proof of the way things are headed, for anyone doubting.

Not sure if anyone else has taken action on getting clients etc. from this course? Curious. Or are you just using it for "you"?

I got this course too and I'll have to say that it is an excellent intro into the Social Media Manager field. It is not however the full training anyone who is serious about SSM'ing would need. If you want some examples of whats not covered do a search on monster.com for social media manager and you'll see some really strict requirements that aren't met by this course.

But for $97 this course does give you enough to be able to satisfy the local "mom & pop's" businesses that have no clue about social media. The only problem you'll encounter with them is proof of ROI which is what this comes down to with a local small business or a big corporate.

Anyone interested in a career in this niche I'd highly recommend this course, but with the knowledge that you will need to invest more time and money into training for the more serious client's needs.

I purchased. The course is good enough. The sales funnel is better than the course itself. I have no problems with course, but feel like I've received more value through various WSO's here.

  • It's a pretty solid course for the money. Probably not enough information to start and run an entire business, unless you have a good foundation in IM and general business operation. Still, it's nicely set up, easy to understand, and they even give you the use of their "Let's Get Social" logo...though it remains to be seen if anyone can parlay the logo into an actual asset. I think it can be done - at least I'm pretty sure that I can get some mileage out of it with what I have in mind.

All-in-all, a decent course with a lot of potential for implementation (though it won't be quite as easy as it sounded in the sales-funnel video).
