    Wordpress is just the tool .I think there is no CMS or software can make you rich unless you learn to combine this tools which each other and use effectively .

      I have different preferences, depending on what my site is about. Generally though, my starting point is:

      1. database backup, set to email daily to my gmail account while I'm building my site, then knocked back to emailing a backup weekly.
      2. ping optimiser
      3. wp stats, I love the way the wordpress.com stats present information
      4. broken link checker, for my affiliate-related blogs, this is essential for alerting me if somebody's site has gone/is down... or if they disappeared. If I am promoting something now and in 2-3 years' time they go out of business, I want to remove every post that referenced their product and freshen up that post.
      5. link cloaking
      6. openx, I run this as my ad server

      Beyond that, I think about the functionality my site needs. Two plugins I use on one "self maintaining" site are:
      • post expirator, which enables me to write about something that is time-limited and it automatically unpublishes the post on a date I tell it
      • dd-scheduled-post-shift , which takes my oldest post and republishes it.
      These are very specific needs for two sites I have, so not right for everybody or even every site I have.
