LibreOffice - Anyone tried it yet?

Having recently downloaded Open Office, I'm wondering how LibreOffice compares? Has anyone tried it?

I don't want to download it until I know more about it as I am on a slow wireless account that adds up my bandwidth so fast that it's not safe to blink while working online. I'd really appreciate hearing the pros and cons of this program if anyone can help. (I realize its still in beta, but it does look quite interesting.)

Following the purchase of Sun Microsystems by Oracle earlier this year, there's been a lot of tension around where the Open Office project will go, and it seems that the answer is that it will go elsewhere, to an Open Office distribution known as LibreOffice to be more precise.

A group of 33 contributors which includes translators, marketers, and technical staff have left the Open Office project in order to head on over to the Document Foundation.

LibreOffice is basically exactly the same as the current Open Office suite because it is a new distribution. However, the group behind it will retain complete control over how it changes and the direction in which it heads; something that they are not confident about under the Oracle regime.

Much of the problem stems from the fact that Oracle has commercial software which compete on some level with the open source and therefore free Open Office suite. As a commercial enterprise, it's difficult to see how Oracle would continue to run and expand on Open Office while still retaining their commercial integrity - they do, after all, have bottom line profits to worry about first and foremost.

As bad as OO, and less likely to survive given the lack
    of contributors to the project.
