Alternatives to Aweber

It doesn't matter what the platform is, I don't believe. I am using Imnica Mail now and I really like it. It's way cheaper than Aweber. The only drawback for me is that it doesn't integrate with as much other stuff as Aweber does but I believe they're continuing to add features.

getresponse is another big player.

There are loads of scripts that can be used on your own server or as WP plugins to act as autoresponders but for something as valuable as your list, aweber etc. should be used, especially for the security and reliabiluty aspects of it.

Prosperity Central works pretty good free 1800# with voicemail for anyone wanting to call you.

About 5$ more a month than aweber for the basic service.

I got away from it though because they didn't support attachments in your emails and I use that alot for free offers.

They also have a two tier affiliate program meaning you get a cut from anyone you sign up whoever they sign up.

Mailchimp looks likely to become the 100 pound gorilla in this space (sorry, couldn't resist the pun). It has loads of great features (e.g. want to see who on your list also follows you on Twitter/Facebook?) and it's free if you have a list under 1,000.

One of them already changed the price and the other, I couldn't find the price schedule. They used to have it...

I just took a look at MailChimp and it looks great. I'm just wondering why anyone would use the Pay as you Go infrequent plans when they could use the free monthly service (provided they had less than 1,000 subscribers).

In my opinion today Getresponse is not comparable to Aweber (they messed it up with the last edition, IMHO) but iContact is getting my thumbs up. It's not as fast as Aweber but it is much easier to deal with (think importing lists for instance).

  iContact is what I am going to use with my clients just because of the importing feature alone! That's a huge thing for offline B&M business owners, IMHO.

as said earlier in this thread, if you are doing affiliate marketing than you are not welcome with Mailchimp.

I use Mailchimp for some of my offline clients so they can communicate with their clients and prospects. I really like their user interface and how you can easily create campaigns on a list segment, get detailed reports, and how it integrates with other applications. And I like the fact that you can start at no cost if your list is small.

I use iContact to communicate with my clients and prospects in the Offline world. I like the fact that they don't require double-opt-in on all lists, so I can follow up with prospects I have met to continue the education and top-of-mind-awareness process. I pay about $10 a month.

I also use aweber for most of my affiliate marketing nichesites lists.

Overall, you first have to determine what your needs are, for what type of business model you are going to use the ESP for, how many subscribers you have, will have in 3-6 months time - then you can determine which one is right for you.

But if you intend to use an ESP regularly in a business context - then the $20 - $50 or so a month will be easily made up for in a short period of time.

Profollow does not have the new advanced analytics functionality that Aweber added recently (actually, I don't remember when they added it... sometime in the last year or two).

If you use those advanced analytics, then Aweber is the way to go. If you're not going to use the advanced analytics, then Profollow is a good alternative.

In December Profollow will be upgraded to include the new advanced analytics package... and the pricing will be changing to match Aweber's pricing.

People who are currently Profollow members, or who sign up before the change in December will have a choice... they can either:

I know that sounds like a very stupid question but did you guys and girls base your opinion on the email delivery?

Can I expect that my emails are getting delivered into the inbox rather the spam folder when using aweber or getresponse??????

The good news is that you can check out the deliverability of any autoresponder service for free on sites such as senderscore[dot]org. This helps you verify for yourself all the deliverability claims that you will inevitably run across in your research.

Hi all,

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will look at these tools tonight. One thing to note is that I am not too concerned with setting up an auto-responder. I wanted to collect names so that I can email them of special offers (like coupon codes), or other sales based on the group I am marketing for. Would setting up a list in Outlook suffice?

I actually moved my lists from Aweber to Profollow because of the 10,000 person limit before the next price increase vs 500 on Aweber.
Don't get me wrong, Aweber is awesome. I just wanted to scale down my monthly expenses a little.

I think that Profollow is the "generic" version of Aweber.

I have been looking at the same thing. I really hate the idea of paying any kind of monthly fee. After doing some Googling I found several free newsletter/ marketer /opt-in/opt-out softwares that you can run from your own machine. In other words they aren't hosted solutions. Either you upload em to your server or they actually run from your desktop.

Since I'm running my own Windows server I was looking specifically for ASP based solutions because I really don't want to install PHP or MySQL on my machine. If you don't have those concerns then you choices should be even greater.

BTW if you want to learn about running your own server I have some stuff on that at babblepfish.com. If your ISP is Comcast you probably can run your own web server and host your own web site.

I havent used anything other than Aweber as I find they provide everything I need and at a reasonable cost. However I have heard decent reports about GetResponse - that would probably be the first one I looked at if I were considering changing.

I HIGHLY recommend profollow, it's the private label of aweber, but tons cheaper ($20/month for upto 10k people, and then $10 extra for every 10k after that)

Hey,

Aweber really is a good service packed with features, but some of those features it does have are not necessary. You want something that's reasonable, does the job of sending emails out and can manage your email list efficiently.

I use IMNICAMAIL at the moment because purely it's a lot cheaper than Aweber and it has all the features I need.

In terms of pricing...

Imnica -Up to 5k Subscribers $10
Aweber - Up to 5k Subscribers $30

So if you want something that does the job I'd go for IMNICAMAIL. But if you want something that does the job packed with features I'd pay more for Aweber.

Another affordable alternative is profollow, which is actually the grandfathered "white label" version of Aweber run by Jeff Walker. It's a solid alternative and it only loses out a little in terms of analytics to the present (more expensive) version of Aweber.

Mailchimp is great in terms of usability and it's constantly getting better in terms of the stats and everything else they provide. In addition to that it's also free if you're list size is below 1000.

They've always answered my questions promptly as well.
What I like the most is that it was a one time, reasonable fee

Of course that's because I'm sending the emails, not them...

They have autoresponders, hosting, scripts and lots of other features for the monthly fee.

I have used them for years, mainly for hosting but they are pretty good.

I have used many autoresponder scripts on my host (and had to stop) and for the last 2 years use aweber...will not change it for anything else. Why? because most of these shared hosts and even reseller account hosts don't allow a certain amount of emails to go out on a daily basis...so use caution when using your own mailing list script on your host. Something to consider...

  In my experience the answer is no. My company has tested aweber which is a main stream autoresponder, but we have also tested high profile expensive autoresponder systems. One even cost $4000 a month and we had to travel to London in the UK for a days training.
  
  After about 4 months we could see no improvement in delivery and/or openings.

ListWire is worth checking out. It is free and I'm looking into using it myself. The one drawback I see to it is that once people confirm their subscription to your list, they are taken to a one time offer for one of the creator's products. It fits right in if you're involved in the make money online niche, and you may even get a commission if your subscriber buys.

However it poses a relevance issue if you're in a completely different niche, so definitely consider that.

One of the things I want to find out is if there is a way to opt out of that OTO page for your lists. Even if that means I'd have to pay a monthly fee, it might still be worth it, especially if it's a flat fee that is not affected by the size of my lists.
