I see that Howie Schwartz is launching his latest Apprentice 6 program. Last December, I signed up for Apprentice 5 at a cost of $2,494 and I thought you might be interested in a review of that program.

Just as a bit of background, let me tell you that I am an experienced affiliate marketer and I make a bit of money. Not megabucks, but I'm not a beginner. As a matter of principle I invest a certain amount of my profits into further education so that I can keep up to date in this fast-moving environment.

Howie's sales page (and I kept a copy of it) started out:

"If you have what it takes, if I pick you... you will be in an elite group who has NEVER seen or been a part of my internal, private operation. If you currently have an online business, we'll take it to the next level. If you don't, you'll be 99% ahead of any competition, even if they have years of experience over you..."

From this I presumed that:

  1. I would only be admitted to the program if I qualified in some way: that Howie would 'pick' me because I had what it takes
  2. I would be in an elite group that would get access to Howie's private operation
  3. My current business would be taken to the next level
Throughout the sales page the term 'partner with me' was repeated again and again, implying that this would be a partnership with Howie.

This turned out to be complete garbage.

There was never an 'elite group'. There were weekly webinars where hundreds of people were online. There was no direct contact with Howie: no forum, no opportunity to contact other Apprentices. The majority of the webinars were conducted by 'project managers' who knew less about affiliate marketing than I did and who conducted the events in a haphazard and amateurish way.

The material in the program was laughably basic and there was literally nothing that you could not get for free anywhere on this forum. I really didn't need to spend weeks learning how to create a Squidoo lens.

The tools provided in the program were clunky and ineffective. For example, there was an article submitter where you had to take for ever to set up all the accounts. After eventually managing to submit some articles I could find only one instance of the article actually being published and that had the resource box missing, therefore no link back to my site. To this day, no articles have appeared anywhere else.

I could go on, but it's late where I am. At the end of the program, I had done everything that the course instructed. My sites received little or no traffic and I didn't make a cent. The whole course was a complete waste of time and money.

I have repeatedly asked for a refund but I was told that they had a 'no refund' policy.

I am sadder, wiser and poorer for this experience. If you are thinking of signing up to Howie's Apprentice 6, take my advice and save your money.

Yes, he did email all his list saying he was retiring. That was obviously a lie.

I don't think I will include Howie's Training in my Internet Marketing Diet Plan!

      Thanks for sharing!

I tried but by the time the course was finished I was out of time.

Part of what I bought was a six-month extension upsell (which I now realise was useless). During that time I was trying to get a refund from Howie's support. They were refusing to accept my criticisms but I kept on.

I paid for the course on my AMEX card and they have a 180 day cutoff for chargebacks.

AMEX is the single most customer-friendly card I've ever witnessed. Hell for businesses...a joy for customers. They have been known to file chargebacks well past the normal 180 day period. They hate it when their customers get bamboozled. Contact them asap...explain the situation and deceit. I suspect they will help you.

By the way, AMEX extends any product guarantees by 2x. So 1 yr product warrantees are extended an additional year by AMEX on their dime. If there was a guarantee of any kind, you might quality for this.

Thanks Jesus. I already have contacted AMEX and they have said I am out of time. I got this credit card via my bank (Lloyds TSB in England) and I suspect that it is not the same, fully-functioning version of the AMEX brand as in the USA. They were sympathetic but said there was nothing they could do.

I have wondered about reporting Howie to the FTC but as I am not a US citizen, could I do that? He operates through a US company (AI & JS Enterprises Inc., 65 High Ridge Road, #383, Stamford, CT 06905) so he's probably under their jurisdiction.

Thanks to all who have posted their support here. If this thread deters even two people from signing up to Apprentice 6 then he'll be out of pocket. Howie's made a big mistake in not giving me my money back!

I am sorry to hear your story. I was in Apprentice 3 and found out it was garbage and got my money back. They must have changed their policy. When I asked for refund, I was sent an email saying that they keep logs on my activity and if they saw I was not putting in enough effort they would deny refund.
I reminded them that I kept my own logs too. Every question I asked my "mentor" was never answered. I got a refund and a snotty reply from his customer service that I had basically gotten all their info for free. It was garbage and a waste of time. They should have given me extra for putting up with them.
I can't believe they are still doing the squidoo training...ugh.

Sorry about the experience Sarah. keep your head up. It's happened to all of us..

And i too had a bad experience with Howie. I think i was in the second apprentice. And he had a "no questions asked" refund back then.

I realized pretty fast when i got in that it was WAAAAYYYY over-priced, and below average at best, so i asked for the refund.

And that's when the hoop jumping started. Long story short, though, i finally got the refund after several weeks of back and forth nonsense.

So i pretty much crossed Howie off my list of products to ever buy. Don't care how enticing the sales letter is or how great the product might sound. If it has his name on it, i take a pass....
