Hi all. Who uses MNF?
Can someone explain why in many key phrases increased SOC and the number of searches decreased greatly.

Here, for example, a few niches that I found about 6-8 months ago.
1. violin shoulder rest - 5,400 requests per month
2. clothes drying rack - 18,100 requests per month
3. resin wicker patio furniture - 8,100 requests per month
4. patio chair cushions - 49,500 requests per month
All of these SOC was in the green zone

Now:
1. violin shoulder rest - 1000 queries per month, SOC = 193
2. clothes drying rack - 3,600 requests per month, SOC = 186
3. resin wicker patio furniture - 1,900 requests per month, SOC = 81
4. patio chair cushions - 3600 requests per month, SOC = 108

and so on ...... I'm watching the fall of the search and the growth of SOC

Who noticed it yet, your assumptions?

All of the tools that use Google's data - most of them including Market Samurai and Google's keyword tool itself - are using a "new" dataset. Google has changed how they calculate search volumes as of a few weeks ago.

Search volume used to be calculated as Google.com searches plus all of the various "Google Search Partner" search engines such as AOL. Now it is solely Google.com searches that are counted.

The totals are considerably lower, but by all accounts much more accurate.

        Yes I use it regularly.

It's important to understand what those indicators are - they are thresholds for the SOC (Strength of Competiton) numbers (like low, medium, and high).

SOC is a calculation taking into account intitle, inanchor, and inurl counts from Google. Though high 'Red' indicators are generally very competitive, the lower 'Yellow' and 'Green' and not terribly good indicators by themselves.

This is because a few very strong competitors at the top will show as low SOC, while a lot of lower-competition sites will show as high SOC.

Use those indicators as a very rough guide, and always dig deeper before committing. The best way is to look at the Page 1 results for a keyword you're interested in, and see how competitive those sites are.

      That is correct.

PLUS Google now is making changes to that dataset programming on a regular basis ( about every 3 weeks) so the developers of every keyword tool on the market will have to keep their programing updated, otherwise their search data will be totally inaccurate, or at worst, the keyword tool won't work at alll.

Everyone who owns a keyword tool ( including Micro Niche Finder), had better realize this and check with the developers to get assurances of accuracy, other you are wasting your time.
