The Millionaire Fastlane. (book)

"The Millionaire Fastlane" by MJ Demarco and Amazon has it for less than $16
Buy It and you won't regret.

I have read almost the whole book and I am having a hard time putting it down. I know that there are lots of Get Rich books out there and I have read several of them but this is one that tops them all. If you read all 322 pages you will be inspired. That is about as simple as I can put it.
It is the difference from working the rest of your life and maybe having enough to retire on and being too damn old to enjoy it or getting wealthy at a young age and retiring young enough to enjoy it.
This book just came out in November but I would like to see if anyone has read it or heard about it yet and get some input here.

      Harry Potter? Really? LOL...

At this day and age you really think someone is going to be recommending a Harry Potter book? Isn't the last one out already? Besides, I think just about everyone who cares for HP would have read every single, 700 plus page book by now... My sister included... LOL

Sorry, I had to comment on your comment (redundancy intended)

Any one that is having trouble making money with IM can use this book. This book has changed my outlook on IM.

Read this book and instead of being some ones affiliate you will have affiliates working for you.

If you are an affiliate and you rely on the income, what do you do if the producer of the product pulls the plug?

You own the product then you are in control.

You need a pay raise you raise the price. You need more sales? Bring more affiliates on board.

You need to earn millions then you need to get your product in front of millions.

    You need a product?
Take an existing product and make it better.
Find a product that is lacking in promotion. Make it a little better and then promote it better.

If you dont want to be too damn old to enjoy wealth then you need to get your butt off the sidewalk and out of the slow lane into the fastlane.

How do you spend your free time? (BTW time is not free. You are only allotted so much in your lifetime) Will you spend it playing video games, drinking beer and watching sports? You really need to rethink your strategy.

Wanna know more? Go read the book. It will be time well spent.

At the very least, they will find it entertaining and worthy of a few laughs - especially if they're sick of the prophetic (and pathetic) guruesque advice which preaches a lifetime of mediocrity ... of course, I think most of the folks here are already onto the insanity of that plan which is why IM is apart of their mix.

        Best, MJ
        MJ,

What a surprise seeing you here at WF. I am on my last chapter of the book and couldnt wait to share the excitement. I have read several books over several years and with all that I have read your writings have touched on so many things that I had always thought like the old school way of getting to retirement. To actually see this in print is just freakin awesome!

All I can say is to keep up the good work.

Guys if you want a Damn Good Book on what it takes to be successful in this world then you need MJ's book. MJ is being a bit modest here but I think that he needs to give his self a pat on the back for a job well done.

Thanks MJ for a great read.

Looks like MJ has already brought to mention a good book "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill . This book was so good that I had to read it twice like I will do with MJ's book.

Another good book if you need to get your thoughts together on what you want out of life is "Psycho-Cybernetics" by Maxwell Maltz

You can get them both at Amazon

Some people have read Think and Grow Rich over 25 times and still could not find the secret.

Some have suggested Napoleon Hill was a master salesman and was really leading people to buy his "Laws of Success" where the Real Secret Lies.

Some people who have read both Think and Grow Rich and The Laws of Success many times believe the Secret to be THE GOLDEN RULE

Just thought I would throw this in because I myself have read Think and Grow Rich a couple times.

I will also like to thank you for the recommendation on "The Millionaire Fastlane".

Its been several years since I have read Think and Grow Rich. I never really saw it as a leading to buy his other book. I see it as a teaching of thoughts to help cultivate your mind into thinking the thoughts that it takes to have the mindset of a rich man.
I think that MJ's book modernizes these teachings up to par with what is possible with the internet.
Either way both books are good reads.

MJ's book will teach that to be in control is the Fastlane. I have been self-employed for several years now. Have seen plenty of its ups and downs but I know that when things are not what I want them to be that I have the power to change it. This is hard to do when some one else has the steering wheel.

I glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the help here. It is always good to have another persons view.

I guess that you know that you can go to Millionaire Entrepreneur Forum and join but when I was there it really didnt seem to be that active yet but it should become that way once everyone starts to read the book.

BTW I was on a conference call the other night with about 180 others and I spoke with MJ and he is really a down to earth person. I will read it again as well as I have already started putting his teachings to action.

When I found out about the call I thought that it was for members of my mentors website. I spoke to her about 20 minutes prior to the call and she said that i was welcome to invite anybody. I know that it was a short notice but I posted a thread here on WF and I had one or two warriors respond and hopefully got in on the call.
My friend told me that she would be setting up another with him in the near future and give me time to get some interest generated.

Guys (and gals), pick up this book. It is eye opening and goes against the grain of all the other 'guru' get rich books out there. It boldly calls out the accepted dogma of yesterdays belief system.

Comparatively it is not even as close to as active as this forum, but I've been a member for a few years and if you go digging into the threads, you will find a TON of valuable advice and wisdom from all sort of businessmen and fastlaners. Though it isn't as active, the conversation is lightyears ahead of this forum in terms of the intelligence ratio. In other words, you don't have to wade through so much garbage to pick out the gems. The golden nuggest are plentiful!

There's nothing wrong with drinking beer, playing video games and watching sports. In fact, I'm sure many successful IMers spend time doing this and other hobbies, particularly those that have worked hard and set up passive income streams already.

The key is to keep these things to a minimum or barely at all in the beginning, when you truly need to work and work and work to make it happen. It's about time management.

Glad you liked the book and hope you apply what you learned in tangible ways in your life and your business.

I picked up the electronic version of The Millionaire Fastlane and have been reading it on my nook for the past couple of days. About a third of the way into it, it's finally starting to get into the Fastlane concept. Explaining what the fastlane isn't was a bit long for my tastes, and certainly didn't reveal any earth-shattering insights, but I do get why the author spent the amount of time he did in his explanations. The author has succeeded in keeping me interested, and I think that the message so far will speak to many who hang out in the Warrior Forum.

I've read the book and can say that it's everything that deckman has said it is. This book makes you think about the core of your business. His five commandments are Need, Entry, Control, Scale and Time.

I'm sure everyone on here knows that sales x profit per sale = $$$. But after reading the book I see so many businesses that have no potential at all. Sure the owners work hard but they never understood magnitude and scale.

Magnitude is the profit per sale. You sell an ebook and make $6, it's small magnitude. You sell a yacht and make $200,000, it's large magnitude.

Scale is the number of sales. You sell 100,000 ebooks and you have huge scale. You sell 3 boats and you have small scale.

Profit X Sales (ie. magnitude x scale) in both cases are $600,000. And everyone here knows that. You need one or the other to be high, or you ideally want to be high on both.

So why do people go into a business that does neither? Because they don't think this stuff before they get into a business. I think this now every time I walk into a small coffee shop that sells a couple hundred $5 cups of coffee a day. Small scale and small magnitude, no millionaire potential.

For those of you grinding out articles and working on SEO 24:7 you will never become truly rich that way. I enjoy his style of writing very much. Definitely a good and inspirational read.

I am now getting to the part of the book that is really interesting (the fastlane business). Some "facts" sound a bit... guruesque (12% conversion, 100k visitors per day, etc. ) but that's OK. There's still enough substance to get inspired and review my own business models under this perspective...

I'll have to check this one out. Looks like a solid read!

I have another strong recommendation that would help EVERYONE in their internet marketing endeavors. It's called "Write It Down - Make It Happen" by a lady named Henriette Anne Klauser. It's all about setting goals and how writing them down in various ways that allow your goals to become a reality. I'm nearly finished with the book and I'll tell you one thing - It's one of the best reads I've came across in a couple years when it comes to taking action (which is what many people fail at in the world of IM).

Get it and you definitely won't regret it. Definitely worth the few bucks without a doubt!

If you're interested in book recommendations - yesterday's post on Copyblogger featured 38 books for bloggers. There's a big overspill and some of the books are also suitable for business. You might find some good recommendations there.

Make sure you read the comments too - currently around 100 - as there are a bunch of great suggestions there too.

You can buy direct from the publisher through Amazon and get a deal (don't know for how long). Use this link and look for Viperion Publishing

Excellent book by the way. I read it once through on my nook, then bought a bound copy as well.

A very good book. I just finished reading it. It made me realize a couple of things I've been doing wrong with my business.

A couple of key points from his book that stood out to me (most of them are common sense but the way that he puts it together just kind of brings it home):
      1. The business you create has to be scalable
      2. Most of the so called get rich "gurus" made (and make) their money from.... drum roll please ..... selling get rich businesses! I mean, come on, if you have a multi million dollar business, why would you seriously sell all your secrets? Just to help the "little guy"? Give me a break.
      3. Stop focusing on trying to do what you love to make your money, and start focusing on finding what the market NEEDS!!!
      4. Low barrier of entry for a business is usually a red flag to not get involved. He goes into a lot of details why.

There are obviously a lot more great insights. Just buy the book. It'll help you refocus from chasing "the next big thing" to building a real business.

Also, as mentioned all the way through the book - there's no point being the richest person in the retirement home. Get rich young and enjoy your life. Very sage advice.

It's a fantastic book, I'm happy to recommend it as others have done on this thread.
Cheers, OnePlusOne. I've just this minute downloaded it from Amazon.co.uk to the "Kindle for Mac" app on my Macintosh. It was listed at £7.41, but today it's priced at £7.16 -- I don't know why it's been reduced, but I suppose I shouldn't complain!

I've already read the first few chapters that are available as a free download and they were fantastic, so I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the book. I think that this may be a classic in years to come.

I also visited my local branch of Waterstone's (UK book chain) today, to see if their computer system could tell me when "Millionaire Fastlane" would be released as a paperback in the UK. Alas, the book didn't even show up on their database...

    Deckman,

Thanks for the heads up on the book! You are right, this book is a must read and also very entertaining I might add.

I couldn't help but think of people while I was going through the 3 different types of roadmaps (sidewalk, slowlane and fastlane). I guess the only ones I haven't met yet are fastlane people. I'm not sure where they are hiding in my city. The golf course perhaps?

My neighbor was the 1st person that came to mind when I was reading about the sidewalk. Of course I was the person that came to mind when I got to the chapters about the slowlane. Man, all those lies I've been fed throughout my life about going to school, getting a good job and investing. Luckily I'm in my early 30's and I have a chance to make it right.

All in all, a very entertaining read. To be honest, I always start reading books, but never end up finishing them. But with Millionaire Fastlane, it is the first time I've finished a book from start to finish.

I also learned many concepts and techniques that were new to me and has changed my way of thinking when joining the fastlane.

Pick up this book if you haven't yet! The only part I hated about the book was waiting for it in the mail. . But I guess that helped build the anticipation even more.

Although very good and i personallyy recommend it, the problem with the book is one thing.

It encourages people to not work for other people and also does not encourage pursuing advanced qualifications, unless those qualifications teach a practical skill that will help you with your fastlane.

The conundrum is that most people will never be in a position to identify great needs, hence business opportunities, that they can scale massively unless they first work in a particular market for somebody else first and are trained in the real inside scoop of that industry.

They also would not be in a position to be in those great jobs unless they first had the education to be there in the first place.

It is not a coincidence that many former Microsoft employees for example went on to launch multimillion dollar businesses themselves. They were first educated and then found jobs that put them in positions to spot market opportunities that they can exploit using the skills they learnt in their Microsoft jobs.

Apart from selling lemonade and burgers, it is almost impossible for the average person to think up from thin air or mere observation of truly scalable businesses in which they have no first hand experience in. Opportunities can usually be spotted once you have the inside scoop of an industry. To be on the inside you usually have to work for somebody else in that market, just like the author did with the limo business. If he never worked as a limo driver, he would have never known of the opportunities in that market.

In 2011, a good education is essential to be in those "inside scoop" positions. Every year, a bigger portion of the forbes 400, 1000 etc. richest people includes more and more graduates and people with postgraduate degrees. This is not a coincidence.

I'm afraid I totally disagree with your post for the following reasons:

Firstly there is nothing wrong with encouraging people to work for themselves, it is afterall the finest way to earn your living for obvious reasons. Yes there is a gamble but as we all know where there is high rewards there is more risk, that is business.

Secondly your comment 'most people will never be in a position to identify great needs' is very negative. Whilst you may be accurate using the word 'most there is a reason why this is the case. It is because we are all conditioned from an early age to find a JOB (Just Over Broke) and never
really think outside the box and graduate to thiniking on a positive level, many of us haven't realised the power of the subconcious mind and/or how to change our mindset. No one has to work in a job to be inspired, to identify a market or to accumilate wealth, a job does not do these things....YOU do these things with the right mindset.

Thirdly you mentioned the former Microsoft employees launching their successful businesses and whilst this is true there are literally thousands of successful millionaires who made their fortunes from totally new areas and not from their previous experience....and that's because they did their
research and had the right mindset. Most successful businessmen did not make their wealth from 'inside scoops' as you put it.

Lastly, a good education is not essential to achieve wealth, many millionaires did not have graduate educations, in fact many had very little education and still became successful. Education may open a door for a job but has little relevance to success.

      Just my opinion of course.

      Be happy

Thanks for all the sharing here about this book and others! Personally, I would love for someone to point me towards a book, or site, or Mentor that knows all the ins and outs about Off-Shore Trusts, IBC's, and the Investment options that I have heard are incredible for those who have this sort of set-up for their assets and have a few dollars accumulated.
I worry, that a small town lawyer or Attorney, tax attorney, may not know everything there is to know about such things and if they do know it all, are they biased towards one kind of set-up versus the others.
There have been WSO's here the past year about obtaining lots of business credit with a Corporation set-up, and that LLC's were not as good, because you still have to give your personal info and are held responsible for business loans or credit with an LLC and that you never have to give such info with a Corp.
The person who sold this info kinda left people hanging without much support. I have gotten started setting up my own Corp. and getting a business license from my town, but really want to learn everything about asset protection, eliminating taxes as much as possible and also getting my money to work for me bigtime with some of this hidden knowledge that the wealthy have used for years.

Will get this book soon, it is right up my alley and of great interest to me.

    Hi Warriors

I am so glad that this thread is being kept live, reading all the comments has been very enlightening and MJ's book will be a great read.

    FYI

'Think And Grow Rich' by Napoleon Hill,'The Secret' (DVD),
'You Can Heal Your Life'by Louise L.Haye (highly recommended), the writings of W.Clement Stone and Wallace D Wattles (again highly recommended) all teach the same principles. These principles were outlined perfectly by the one and only Joseph Murphy in his book 'The Power Of Your Subconcious Mind'
I can highly recommend this book and I think it would be a perfect compliment to your
existing arsenal of self help/improvement books.

That said I am off now to purchase MJ's book as i feel after these WF reviews and others that this guy knows his stuff. Always good to purchase from a guy who doesn't really need the cash...

I have read about half maybe of this book, Millionaire Faslane, and not nearly as excited about it, as I was when I learned of it here and when it arrived at my doorstep.

I might be wrong, but for me, it seems 2/3 of it, is blah, blah, blah about the Sidewalk and the Slow lane, over and over and over again.

I had to quit, give up, and just skip to the back third, to read about his thoughts on how we actually achieve breakthoughs or transform our lives, the steps he recommends to get out of the rut, if you will.

Someone here mentioned the book Write It Down, Make It Happen and I am very much enjoying this One and feel it can do more for anyone who reads and implements this method, than the Millionaire book.

the time we spend Writing It Down, is time we are not in Frustration, Depression, Failure, Feeling Broke, Worried and Worn Out by life circumstances we have allowed to pull us down.

The author of Write It Down gives many real life examples of people who have taken this approach seriously, made use of it and realized incredible Gifts flowing their way without end.

So it seems, every book, or method, or course has different effects on each person, so we just have to move towards what feels inside like Truth and Good advice and be steadfast and committed and not Half-Ass about it.

Just Do It, as the slogan says!

    Peace,

I just read a sampling of it (about 30 pages worth). I don't think I would be purchasing this one. It's really just about changing your mindset about accumulating wealth and not following the norm.

It doesn't offer any kind of concrete strategies for creating wealth. Besides you don't need to get rich quick. You just need to build an online business and scale it up.

    Just my 2 cents.

I haven't read it yet but I do not think you can make any judgements by reading just 30 pages out of 322.

Maybe you should read the book fully and then pass comment otherwise your opinion has no substance.

      Just my 2 cents

I believe you are wrong here Michael. What he is teaching here creates 7 or 8 figure sums quickly, while you are Young and that is the whole point. Lots of people accumulate wealth over the long haul, but don't have the energy or health to enjoy that wealth.
What you are talking about, is creating a nice six figure income from home, one that could go south at any time or would require constant work, energy and time to keep it going. He is giving several examples of people who hit the nail on the head, built success and then sold off the asset for a large sum of money. Enough money to never have to do a damn thing again, if you didn't want to.

If you are looking for a book that will magically make you financially independent then dont buy it. If you are willing to let this book change your mindset and then take action you will be way ahead of the crowd.

I wished that I had of taken the risk of buying stock in RFID's when I first heard that it was about to go public but I didnt and so now I am the loser because I wasnt ready to take the risk. Bottom line is That if Nothing Changes, Nothing Changes.

If you werent looking for change then you wouldnt be reading this thread. So now that we have established that you are looking for a change go ahead and risk spending a little bit of money and time to read this book to see if it fits. If it dosent then a least you will know that this is not the change that you are looking for.

There's really nothing new in this book that wasn't already covered 5 years ago in books like Amy Joyner's "The Online Millionaire".

But I would agree that for many people, mindset change is EVERYTHING. The truth is, building an online business, like building ANY business, is hard, repetitive work, with many failed attempts and discouragements along the way. If you don't have the positive mindset and the stick-to-it-ness to cheerfully persevere when you feel most like throwing in the towel, you're toast as an entrepreneur, no matter what business model you try.

So if this book or another can really help you turn around your attitude, get it, absorb it and change your life.

I needed to change my attitude permanently to succeed, and books like this helped. What really made a permanent difference, for me, was spending time with Tony Robbins.

        Mikeey,

There are as many different theories out there of what works and what dosent as there are different types of people. If the same thing worked for every one I personally think that the world would be a very dull place to reside.

This is a difficult review for me to write.

The meat of the book is excellent. It is exactly what I've believed for a long, long time. MJ and I think very much alike and if you are on the sidewalk or the slow lane (by his definitions), this will be a real eye opener for you.

    The problems for me are:

    1. The book could easily be edited to 1/3 its present length and not lose a thing. It does not follow these simple writing rules:

    A) Tell them what you're going to tell them
    B) Tell them
    C) Tell them what you told them.

He gets stuck on rule B and tells you over and over again and it gets boring. I'm a fast reader and I felt I was slogging through this book like I was walking knee deep in a mud bog.

    2) MJ spends way too much time slamming the side walkers and slow laners. What took 103 pages (up to part 5) could have been done in 20-30 pages.

    3) Finally, not really a criticism, but this book is about concepts, not a step-by-step plan. That's fine but people should understand that going in.

    Should you buy the book?

Its hard to say. If you're here on this forum, you probably already realize that the path to wealth is by owning your own business. But there is more to it than that. I believe, for people who haven't figured it out, that Chapter 29-34 are easily worth the price of the book. They describe the qualities necessary for a successful business and many people do not understand this at all.

They buy a Subway franchise and end up working 80 hours a week making less than $100k. They bought themselves a job... a job that sucks. That violates 2 of the 5 commandments MJ describes.

So, its up to you. My advice for people who have not found success is to buy the book, read the chapter summaries, which are excellent, then start reading word for word at chapter 24.

Just remember getting rich - with money is not all there is to life. Make more to give more should be our underlying motive. On our life's journey - get rich in relationships, get rich in experiences, get rich in giving yourself to help your fellow man....

I'm surprised to hear so many people who've read the Millionaire Fastlane concluding that it's "just another book trying to change the reader's mindset".

TMF does try to change the reader's mindset, but there are two key differences between this and other books that I've read:
      1. MJ DeMarco gives us a side-by-side comparison of the drifter's mindset ("the sidewalk"), the salary man's mindset ("the slowlane") and the entrepreneur's mindset ("the fastlane"). This side-by-side comparison allows each mindset (and its consequences) to serve as a reference point for the other two mindsets, and that approach alone sets the book apart.
      2. The bonus is that TMF uses numbers. Rather than using vague superlatives to convey the differences in income, assets and debts of each of the 3 mindsets, MJ DeMarco shows with cold, hard figures that there's only one lane that you want to be driving in.

But this book isn't just about mindset. It also gives a framework for assessing the viability of your plans.

One of the main things that has prevented me from moving forward in the past was my ignorance of which direction "forward" actually was. Some books said that to make money, you had to have a good original idea, while others said that you could do well by improving someone else's idea. Some books said "Start a business doing what you love and the money will follow". Others said that the secret to wealth was by investing in good old-fashioned assets like property, pension funds and savings accounts.

The result of this wide variety of advice was the "paralysis of analysis" -- standing at the crossroads and never advancing down any of the routes, for fear of pouring precious time and money into the "wrong" choice.

And then along came "The Millionaire Fastlane".

From the very outset, MJ makes it clear that his book isn't about living like a pauper for 45 years to feed a pension fund in the hopes of geriatric wealth. And it isn't about a mysterious "secret" that can deliver whatever you want so long as you adopt some hokey, pseudo-religious beliefs. Nor does his book propose that wealth creation can be outsourced to poor countries while the outsourcer works a 4 hour week.

In fact as a "left brain" thinker, I greatly appreciated MJ's tendency to start with life's constraints -- this is how much time you have left on the planet, this is how much money you have, these are the tools that are available, this is how many customers you might reach... -- and work out a solution from there. It gave me the impression that all of MJ's strategies were solidly grounded in facts and realities rather than being the product of wishful thinking.

And as has already been mentioned on this thread, strategies like "Scale & Magnitude" or the "NECST" commandments do change the way you look at business opportunities. I can now look through my own list of future projects and immediately see which ones have the potential to bloom and make money and which will be fraught with difficulties & return meagre income.

So yeah, I love this book. And I'm so very grateful to Deckman for recommending it.

      Hi,

For those in the UK who wants a physical copy of the The Millionaire Fastlane, I ordered my copy from Amazon.com (for about $22 incl. shipping) and it arrived in about 8 days.

It's one the best books I've read on building a successful business, and has led me to re-assess the plans I had for affiliate marketing (as it violates MJ's commandment of Control)

Thanks MJ for writing this book.

      Adrian

Just read and reread parts of this thread, secured the free download, admired the website, the design, the flow, marveled at some of the positivity here on WF and have ordered the book.
What I find so gratifying, is the mindset here on WF, and what this book espouses. For some time now, I've thought that schools and educationers(sic) should ask different questions. NOT...' What job do you want to do after leaving school(which pushes or routes your subject choices towards your 'desired' job). A question that could be asked is...'What do you wish from life, how would you like to live'. Formulate that first and then work on how you are going to support it. Surely 'life and living' comes first, with a strong idea of how to support it second.
Anyway, have bought the book, and am already learning from the author, in regards of how he has his online presence so well done.
Kudos. Thanks to the forum, to Deckman and everyone for so much positivity.Oh have also purchased Think and Grow Rich. Tis amazing what one can buy whilst waiting for a plane home.

I read it, the bottom line is work hard and create a product that can give you passive income. Extremely difficult task for most people, and his advice is believable. I enjoyed his journey as a limo driver on the mean streets of Chicago with brutal winters, to his retirement in Arizona. You can tell this man always had drive, regardless of the struggles he put-up with. Some people are just lazy, and can't make it in life. They don't care. You have to have something that motivates you to wake up in the morning and fight for your dream.

I was in a corparate job and was somewhat dissatified with it when I start reading this book. Was initially hoping for a get-rich-quick book with a few helpfull tips to make some extra money on the side. Think it was the title that somehow suggested this to me, but the book is more about concepts. And it does a very good job of explaining why a corparate job offers mostly a fake sense of having a lot of security. In short it was very helpfull to me, thinking about it I should put this on my reread list !
