At this day and age you really think someone is going to be recommending a Harry Potter book? Isn't the last one out already? Besides, I think just about everyone who cares for HP would have read every single, 700 plus page book by now... My sister included... LOL

Looks like MJ has already brought to mention a good book "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill . This book was so good that I had to read it twice like I will do with MJ's book.

Another good book if you need to get your thoughts together on what you want out of life is "Psycho-Cybernetics" by Maxwell Maltz

MJ's book will teach that to be in control is the Fastlane. I have been self-employed for several years now. Have seen plenty of its ups and downs but I know that when things are not what I want them to be that I have the power to change it. This is hard to do when some one else has the steering wheel.

Guys (and gals), pick up this book. It is eye opening and goes against the grain of all the other 'guru' get rich books out there. It boldly calls out the accepted dogma of yesterdays belief system.

Comparatively it is not even as close to as active as this forum, but I've been a member for a few years and if you go digging into the threads, you will find a TON of valuable advice and wisdom from all sort of businessmen and fastlaners. Though it isn't as active, the conversation is lightyears ahead of this forum in terms of the intelligence ratio. In other words, you don't have to wade through so much garbage to pick out the gems. The golden nuggest are plentiful!

I think that it is the first and maybe the second chapter. Enough to peak your interest with out a doubt.

Yeah, IU'm the same way, but I was able to breeze through this book. It's seriously so good. I've been doing IM for a long time and this book really gave me a lot to think about. It really re-energized me and inspired me to go to new levels.

Also, I know it's unrelated, but Split-Second Persuasion is also killer-good.

I've read the book and can say that it's everything that deckman has said it is. This book makes you think about the core of your business. His five commandments are Need, Entry, Control, Scale and Time.

I'm sure everyone on here knows that sales x profit per sale = $$$. But after reading the book I see so many businesses that have no potential at all. Sure the owners work hard but they never understood magnitude and scale.

Magnitude is the profit per sale. You sell an ebook and make $6, it's small magnitude. You sell a yacht and make $200,000, it's large magnitude.

Scale is the number of sales. You sell 100,000 ebooks and you have huge scale. You sell 3 boats and you have small scale.

Profit X Sales (ie. magnitude x scale) in both cases are $600,000. And everyone here knows that. You need one or the other to be high, or you ideally want to be high on both.

So why do people go into a business that does neither? Because they don't think this stuff before they get into a business. I think this now every time I walk into a small coffee shop that sells a couple hundred $5 cups of coffee a day. Small scale and small magnitude, no millionaire potential.

Am I missing something or is this book not available in Europe?

Yes, there is a Kindle version, which means you can read it on most anything.

A very good book. I just finished reading it. It made me realize a couple of things I've been doing wrong with my business.

A couple of key points from his book that stood out to me (most of them are common sense but the way that he puts it together just kind of brings it home):
1. The business you create has to be scalable
2. Most of the so called get rich "gurus" made (and make) their money from.... drum roll please ..... selling get rich businesses! I mean, come on, if you have a multi million dollar business, why would you seriously sell all your secrets? Just to help the "little guy"? Give me a break.
3. Stop focusing on trying to do what you love to make your money, and start focusing on finding what the market NEEDS!!!
4. Low barrier of entry for a business is usually a red flag to not get involved. He goes into a lot of details why.

There are obviously a lot more great insights. Just buy the book. It'll help you refocus from chasing "the next big thing" to building a real business.

I'm afraid I totally disagree with your post for the following reasons:

Firstly there is nothing wrong with encouraging people to work for themselves, it is afterall the finest way to earn your living for obvious reasons. Yes there is a gamble but as we all know where there is high rewards there is more risk, that is business.

Secondly your comment 'most people will never be in a position to identify great needs' is very negative. Whilst you may be accurate using the word 'most there is a reason why this is the case. It is because we are all conditioned from an early age to find a JOB (Just Over Broke) and never
really think outside the box and graduate to thiniking on a positive level, many of us haven't realised the power of the subconcious mind and/or how to change our mindset. No one has to work in a job to be inspired, to identify a market or to accumilate wealth, a job does not do these things....YOU do these things with the right mindset.

Thirdly you mentioned the former Microsoft employees launching their successful businesses and whilst this is true there are literally thousands of successful millionaires who made their fortunes from totally new areas and not from their previous experience....and that's because they did their
research and had the right mindset. Most successful businessmen did not make their wealth from 'inside scoops' as you put it.

Lastly, a good education is not essential to achieve wealth, many millionaires did not have graduate educations, in fact many had very little education and still became successful. Education may open a door for a job but has little relevance to success.

Just my opinion of course.

I haven't read it yet but I do not think you can make any judgements by reading just 30 pages out of 322.

Maybe you should read the book fully and then pass comment otherwise your opinion has no substance.

There's really nothing new in this book that wasn't already covered 5 years ago in books like Amy Joyner's "The Online Millionaire".

But I would agree that for many people, mindset change is EVERYTHING. The truth is, building an online business, like building ANY business, is hard, repetitive work, with many failed attempts and discouragements along the way. If you don't have the positive mindset and the stick-to-it-ness to cheerfully persevere when you feel most like throwing in the towel, you're toast as an entrepreneur, no matter what business model you try.

So if this book or another can really help you turn around your attitude, get it, absorb it and change your life.

I needed to change my attitude permanently to succeed, and books like this helped. What really made a permanent difference, for me, was spending time with Tony Robbins.

I'm surprised to hear so many people who've read the Millionaire Fastlane concluding that it's "just another book trying to change the reader's mindset".

TMF does try to change the reader's mindset, but there are two key differences between this and other books that I've read:

1. MJ DeMarco gives us a side-by-side comparison of the drifter's mindset ("the sidewalk"), the salary man's mindset ("the slowlane") and the entrepreneur's mindset ("the fastlane"). This side-by-side comparison allows each mindset (and its consequences) to serve as a reference point for the other two mindsets, and that approach alone sets the book apart.
2. The bonus is that TMF uses numbers. Rather than using vague superlatives to convey the differences in income, assets and debts of each of the 3 mindsets, MJ DeMarco shows with cold, hard figures that there's only one lane that you want to be driving in.

But this book isn't just about mindset. It also gives a framework for assessing the viability of your plans.

One of the main things that has prevented me from moving forward in the past was my ignorance of which direction "forward" actually was. Some books said that to make money, you had to have a good original idea, while others said that you could do well by improving someone else's idea. Some books said "Start a business doing what you love and the money will follow". Others said that the secret to wealth was by investing in good old-fashioned assets like property, pension funds and savings accounts.

The result of this wide variety of advice was the "paralysis of analysis" -- standing at the crossroads and never advancing down any of the routes, for fear of pouring precious time and money into the "wrong" choice.

And then along came "The Millionaire Fastlane".

From the very outset, MJ makes it clear that his book isn't about living like a pauper for 45 years to feed a pension fund in the hopes of geriatric wealth. And it isn't about a mysterious "secret" that can deliver whatever you want so long as you adopt some hokey, pseudo-religious beliefs. Nor does his book propose that wealth creation can be outsourced to poor countries while the outsourcer works a 4 hour week.

In fact as a "left brain" thinker, I greatly appreciated MJ's tendency to start with life's constraints -- this is how much time you have left on the planet, this is how much money you have, these are the tools that are available, this is how many customers you might reach... -- and work out a solution from there. It gave me the impression that all of MJ's strategies were solidly grounded in facts and realities rather than being the product of wishful thinking.

And as has already been mentioned on this thread, strategies like "Scale & Magnitude" or the "NECST" commandments do change the way you look at business opportunities. I can now look through my own list of future projects and immediately see which ones have the potential to bloom and make money and which will be fraught with difficulties & return meagre income.

So yeah, I love this book. And I'm so very grateful to Deckman for recommending it.
