Any recommendations for a tried and trusted script, one that has both sequential autoresponders and broadcasts?

Something reasonably easy to install?

No, I'm not interested in renting one, I'm talking about a script.

infinite responder. A breeze to set up. If you need help let me know we'll arrange something. The messages I send do not get put into the spam folder. Its just a really good script. Infinite Responder - Free Autoresponder Script

If you need hosting I've found hastyhost.com to be fantastic. The servers are screaming fast and so is tech support.

I've enjoyed this script (Infinite Responder) for quite some time. Unfortunately, I just changed hosting providers and have been faced with major compatibility issues. Since leaving the host on which it worked properly, I've experimented with it on two others and have not yet been able to enjoy 100% functionality. (The mass email feature ["Create Burst"] and "Run Sendmails" features do not work at all, while regular set up messages seem to go through) I have the cron set up as well (as I did with both hosting providers). I do wish I could arrive at a resolution with it.

Thanks Cypher, but I'm selling commerical software so a GPL script that loudly shouts (OK a link but it's enough) about "free software" is the last thing I need.

The "donation" to remove it is considerably more than most "evil and commercial" scripts cost.

Then again I'm going entirely by memory from what I remember last time I looked at it. I already have a script installed and running but it is dependent upon the developer's site being online for me to access the control panel - and that ^%@ has been offline 3 times now.

The reason for wanting to change is to get away from the 'powered by free version, get yours here' message. 'Powered by free stuff' is no great improvement.

    Thanks for the tip though.

Damned if I'm gonna give in and rent one!

That script requires cron jobs, which my host does allow but which never seem to work properly.

If they have cpanel there is an option to create cron jobs in either standard or the more geeky (which I LOVE) unix shell. And there's nothing wrong with GPL. I've not seen that little advert in my mails, but its probably there.

      Hi Cypherslock,

Do you use the infiniteresponder script for the website in your signature? Because I tried to sign up for your membership site, but I got this error message:

"Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'eheyl_eheyl'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in /home/eheyl/public_html/infinite/functions.php on line 93
Could not connect : Access denied for user 'eheyl_eheyl'@'localhost' (using password: YES)"

I've tried it 3 times btw, with my Yahoo and Gmail address but got the same error message.

    Hi B.

I know you said you don't want to rent, but there's two things that might change your mind. First, your long term results will be much better with a paid service like aweber or getresponse due to the deliverability rate. The second thing is a secret tip to get aweber for less than aweber charges...

AutomateYourList Autoresponder & Newsletters: Unlimited Follow Up Autoresponders Increase Email Deliverability. is a reseller for aweber and costs about a third of the cost once you build your list to 10k or more.

    Just my two cents...

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for the tip but it's not just the cost that puts me off renting.

That is a nice script and I came close to buying it - but should point out in the end I got the paid version of the one I'm already using, 'ALML Pro'.

The service sux and the developer drives you batty with videos and obscure documentation but I love the script and decided to upgrade - even if I did deeply resent giving that guy money considering the snooty responses and other aspects of his customer service.

Then discovered the "upgrade process" is a joke. It's quicker to just install the full version from scratch -and had to manually transfer my 1000+ list!

Happily I already had 90% of the list as a text file from the $7 autoresponder I used previously (which was pants and then stopped working altogether)

Further miseries included that fact he'd put the price up from $75 to $97 - and then had to pay 17% UK VAT on top!

The full version is a kick-ass script though, does everything and easily. I left the thread open if only to help others looking. Much as I like the one I'm using I can't really recommend it, unless you consider a 3 day delay and "try another computer" as a suitable response to a long list of detailed questions.

In retrospect, now knowing the upgrade meant completely reinstalling (realistically) and the price increase, I'd have gone for the one you linked.

autoresponseplus.com, beats every AR currently available.

It's self hosted. So only choose it if you own VPS/dedicated server.

This looks like it could be a nice way to mail my list when my AR goes down. How does it work as far as sending limits? Aren't there limits to the number of emails you can send through your own hosting?
