I'm constantly looking for something to help shorten my learning curve for wordpress. Has anyone used wordpress goldmine?

Have not heard of it. What exactly are you having problems with? Just getting started and everything setup?

Ya. everyone says "just google it" or "search the forum" or "find videos on the wordpress site"

But in my opinion these are less effective ways of learning. I'm looking for a solid walkthrough course involving wordpress.

Something that can help me understand.. The steps to creating a site, choosing a theme, monitizing and what that means, optimizing with seo, how to creat a sales page and when you should create one, what pluggins are absolutely necassary, where to post your articles on worpress before posting them elsewhere, what the site should look when your done, step by step walk through with explanation.. etc etc etc...

To learn squidoo I used pot pie girls guide and it was far easier than guessing how to create a squidoo site or searching a million threads or google. I'm looking for something similar to that for wordpress or a solution.

Yeah, I know how you feel. We have all been there. Every course out there seems to miss out something or leaves you with more questions than answers. I am going to be providing a service soon where people can get in a 1-on-1 online meeting with me while we share computer screens and I walk them through and teach them exactly how to set everything up step by step so. That way they can ask any questions and they will also have a recording of the video they can refer to later.

No, I use a service called GoToMeeting which is like a webinar but two-way so we can talk to each other and see each others computer screens. I can also control the mouse of the other computer if need be. And we just go through it all step-by-step. So special features a needed, just a microphone so we can talk.

I haven't got around to it yet so it won't be of much help to you right now, was just saying that I understand how you feel and that's why I will be offering that service. There's a lot of people out there who need help getting the basics going and there's not really a whole lot of great thorough training out there.

I learned that way. At times it was frustrating and I actually quit for a few months.

But then I came back to it because the html sites I made looked ugly. Glad I came back because now I think nothing of playing with the code in a wordpress theme.

Sorry I do not know any resource like you are looking for to walk you through wordpress step by step.

I have Wordpress Goldmine and this is the book I used to understand WP.

Mind you, it is dated 2008 so some things may have changed since then, but it is a very detailed report and covers everything:

          Installation
          Changing settings
          Themes
          Essential Plugins
          Blog Content Creation
          Monetizing
          Promotion
          Essential links

          128 pages

It also has lots of screen shots so that you'll know what he's talking about.

I bought WP Goldmine by Mark Thompson a couple years ago, on the recommendation of Jennifer Ledbetter (PotPieGirl).

It's a truly solid overview of WP that cuts the learning curve way down. As someone here said, it could use a bit of updating, but there's nothing seriously outdated.

I still find myself referring back to it occasionally to refresh my memory about some detail. Highly recommended.

Thanks you guys.. yes I'm still a little concerned about the update factor but I bet I could still get value based on both your responses..

I have a question... Does it guide you through the sales process telling you what to do and why you do it, not just showing you options. I'm kind of interested in a guide that can walk me through, telling me what to do as I do it. Just so I know I can make a blog that sells. -at least once to build my confidence,. lol (also, does it cover stuff like squeeze pages..?)

              Thanks! -Carson

Mark has forum with a very active group helping each other out. They are always on top of things so there is no need to worry about updates.

Wordpress Goldmine is a great place that i visit almost every day and cannot imagine building niche sites without the knowledge that is freely shared there.

This is how Wordpress Goldmine originally started. The book has been updated since and is a great way to learn wordpress - not that much has changed in how wordpress is set up. Before someone jumps on me - the traffic generation methods have changed but Mark has covered that not only on the forum but in his other books and reports he has written, most of which are free.

The real value behind Wordpress Goldmine is the forum. The forum is the reason why I now earn money every month and sometimes reach four figures. Everything is covered - not just wordpress. Sales letters, affiliate promotion, adsense, building your own product, buying and selling websites , traffic etc etc etc etc.

Mark is excellent at answering questions but that isnt the only benefit. This is the first forum I have been a member of where everyone is genuinely willing to help their fellow members. There is no sarky comments, no bitchiness and nobody gets shot down in flames if they ask a question the other members dont like.

The other great thing is that we dont have any members who join just to fleece the others. If some trolls like that did arrive they are dealt with immediately. The atmosphere is one of shared learning with regular special offers for the members in the form of fantastic converting adsense themes, members who write awesome product reviews for $8 and others who write fantastic content for cents on the dollar.

But anyway you can join yourself for $1 I think. Just google Mark Thompson and you will find his blog. Even if you dont join wordpress goldmine you will learn loads. Be warned though - this guy tells it how it is and doesnt take any prisoners.

We had a fantastic meet up last year for the UK members and one for the US members in Vegas. This year we hope to get some of our US people over to the UK.

Any criticisim of wordpress goldmine - Yes - Mark should have thought about the name as it is sooooooo much more than wordpress.

By the way I joined WPGoldmine in October 2009 after reading a couple of very sensible posts on here from Mark. Used properly the warrior forum really can change your life by introducing you to people who make a positive impact.

I have never regretted joining wpg - it is the best $27 I spend every month and I didnt know Mark or any of the other members from the back of a bus. Now I go in every day or at least every other day. I listen to what the members say and implement the things that make sense to my business.

Now I consider Mark a very dear friend who in addition to some of the people on the WF (Bev Clement being the main one ) has helped me to change my life and allow me to stay at home with my three kids while earning some cash to pay the bills. I run some websites in partnership with another member who I have never met in person but is a member at wpgoldmine. This is not unusual - there are plenty of proper joint ventures going on.

With the right attitude and the want to succeed WPG can change your life too. Can you do it without WPG? Yes of course you can but if you want to shorten your learning curve it is the place I would recommend. I have tried other forums (believe me there are very few things I didnt try as I initially joined the spend money online club but that changed when I joined WPG) but nothing comes close to it.

2011 will be the year I turn that cash into a fully fledged business now my youngest will be one.

            Sorry for the long post

I joined the Wordpress Goldmine community about a year ago and it is a great supportive and friendly community of people sharing their experiences on using Wordpress to build niche sites and a sustainable internet business.

If you are looking to create an internet business, this is a great place to learn and it is not expensive at all. Also very newbie friendly.

Hi there me too me too.

I joined the goldmine forum about a year ago. I was really struggling with my IM at the time.

In December I made my first post on the success thread on the forum as I made my first $1000 in that month.

I have done all the tutorials on there but as others have said, it is the forum that really got me moving and making money. It is a great place to learn and grow.

                  Hi Carson,

I own WPG what would you like to know?

Firstly thank you to everyone who posted nice comments about WPG. (hey rachz..it's $19.97 not $27 )

The main focus of WPG is now the forum, although he book is updated every 6 to 8 months.

The forum is truly the focus and that's not down to me but the members who are happy to share and help each other.

If you have a question or a problem post and someone will help you out very quickly. It's actually more of a mastermind group than a forum. (these are the stats at the moment..Threads: 7,486, Posts: 57,195)

I have some offers on my blog which you'll find in my signature.

It really is a great and very helpful group. It is also my first stop of the day to get a feel for what has happened in the IM world since the previous day. If there is something happening that I should know about that may affect my business, it's usually posted there first. You will find up to date information and an answer to any of your questions about IM, not just WordPress.

Wordpress Goldmine is more like an internet marketing goldmine. I believe Mark originally set up the forum as live support for the WP Goldmine book, but it has evolved into an IM forum that is very unique. The members have a genuine interest in helping others succeed and don't hesitate to share what works and what doesn't.

One thing new IMer's suffer from is "Shinny New Product Syndrome" meaning they have a tendency to purchase every new product that comes out promising riches or shortcuts to success. One of the things I really like about the WP Goldmine forum is products and tools that are discussed have been tested first before encouraging other members to try them. If someone finds a good product and they have success with it, they let other members in the forum know about it.

If you join the forum, you will find it goes way beyond your expectations.

I'm also a member at WP Goldmine and have been for well over a year now. I don't post there as often as I should but I read the forums on a daily basis.

There are a truly great bunch of people there and a wealth of information is available. What has always impressed me is the willingness of everyone there to share in their knowledge and answer questions that anyone has. If you outsource writing, there are some very talented writers there who crank out some great content for great prices. Other tasks you may need performed are available there from various members.

To me, the forum is like a family that's always willing to help each other out. It is rare (I can only remember once) that you ever see any friction there among the members. Many of the members there came in as "newbies" and have successfully cranked up their businesses and actually gone full time.

All I can say to anyone that's thinking about joining is to just do it. I honestly don't believe you'll regret it if you want to get your business off the ground. It's helped me a lot and I'm sure it will help anyone who is willing to put in some effort and take advantage of the knowledge that's available there.

While there is a series of ebooks and videos that Mark Thompson provides with Wordpress Goldmine, the true "goldmine" is in Mark's forum. I'm an active member there and I can honestly tell you that I have learned more about IM there than anywhere else... no kidding. Wordpress Goldmine, over the last year or so, has become the only IM related site that I visit every single day. I highly recommend it to folks, regardless of their IM level, newbie to veteran. The forum has a wide range of people with different degrees of success and all of the active members contribute in some way or another, even if it's just asking questions that others of us didn't think of or were too intimidated to ask.

If you have the money to spare, it's money well spent.

I bought WP Goldmine back in the beginning, and I must say it opened my eyes to what WP could do, with a wealth of information. There was a whole lot of excellent information, all in one place, written in an easy-to-read style.

But it's the WPG forum that is worth it's weight in, well, gold! The people are knowledgeable and friendly, and there are great videos there as well.

Mark is active on the forum, and he's absolutely wonderful about answering questions.

Although I do frequent WF (and I love it here), I don't think I could do without WPG.

This is an unsolicited testimonial -- I just believe that Mark is one of those rare people who consistently over-deliver.
