Best Way To Host Downloads ?

Hi, I notice a lot of pros seems to host downloads and files to download on their own server, for example your promotional pdf or free product to entice subscribers.

Are there good free servers to host your downloads, or is it best to up load strait to your own ?

Do you not have a website that is hosted?! If not then that's the first thing you'll need... Howerver, you could always go the RapidShare/MegaUpload route.

I've got tons of stuff uploaded to a domain that I have hosted! Sometimes I post links in the forums for Warriors to download something that is too big for WF standards... No Biggie. I've probably got about a GIG in one directory.

    Follow the Yellow Brick Road:

Get Filezilla and set it up.

Create a Folder on your Desktop called... I dunno.... "downloads" and stuff it full of .zip's .exe's .pdf's .txt's whatever!

Use Filezilla to connect to your domain/hosting via FTP. Double click to get into your domains directory. Click and drag the "downloads" folder from your desktop to the domains directory. Wait a couple seconds and you're done!

You should be able to go to yourdomain.com/downloads/ and all of the files that were in the "downloads" folder are now hosted on your domain for anyone to download... Should you alllow them!

To add more files/programs - Connect via Filezilla, open up your domains directory and double click the "downloads" folder - Click and drag the files you want to host!

Install Xampp server on your computer then create a "Downloads" folder in "www" folder and use your IP as localhost eg; hxxp: // 10.0.XX.XXX like domain hxxp: // 10.0.XX.XXX give that address to anyone to download anything

I do actually, I have an I-Host account and edit my sites with wordpress. I am however not sure how to upload content and then have it downloadable.

I will try the firezilla and or xampp method, thanks for the input. That helps a lot !

One suggestion is to put the content on Amazon S3 (this costs just a few pennies each month) and then use expiring links to the content. This means that your users need to pay or sign up for the content on your website and can't just share the links.
