I've never heard of them but I would wager that in your situation, you made a wise decision.

As for the product in question, considering what you have outlined in the above quote my advice would be for you to spend some time trying to find free sources (blogs) for the information you need via Google, using terms like 'make money amazon affiliate' and things like that. There are hundreds of them out there.

I've done some Amazon promotion myself in the past, but I would only recommend that type of affiliate marketing for new people as a way to quickly get some sites up in order to learn about site building and to conduct tests, before they move on and build their own business in the longer term that involves transactions directly between them and their own customers, possibly with affiliates promoting them, via their own affiliate program. In other words, I wouldn't recommend it as a long term business model for people starting out now.

There are two main reasons for this -

a) Google are (and have been for some time) actively trying to reduce the amount of 'thin affiliate sites' (Google it) in their search pages. They also have rules which make it difficult/complicated to promote via pay per click, as do the affiliate programs themselves.

b) The larger affiliate programs such as eBay and Amazon are not in 'the ascendancy'. If you think about it, these sites are household names and don't really have a strong need for affiliate promotions anymore (I do have extensive experience with eBay as an affiliate) - and this affects the profitability of these programs, especially to those just starting out.
