All of them I thought?

I would have to log in and see for each site but http://www.prlog.org I use the most and they allow active links. I thought PR9 did too...

  These are not news sites, but sites where you can submit a press release for distribution. The advantage is that 1. They could be picked up by local news org's, 2. They WILL get picked up by the search engines and get ranked at least for a short amount of time., and 3. They can drive traffic to your site.

Freepressrelease.com is a good one too, but you have to pay a $1 per release if you want a link in it.

Look like you were doing the same thing I was doing yesterday... cleaning up my list of 75 free news release outlets.

The recession has killed lots of these types of sites. Many others are offering a very basic free service, but want to charge for the things that are really useful to people sending releases. The times are changing--many of these sites used to offer far more for free than they do now.

  I don't think any one site brings in the most traffic, a lot of factors depend on your niche because some sites are targeted towards niches in general.(although not usually in this case with press release's).
  
  Articles in general?
  
  Well researched articles, fairly well written articles, articles that deliver exactly what the user is looking for, will bring you A LOT of traffic. First from people reading your article, and then naturally from the search engines. Get your links placed in the right spots (depending on the niche) on a few sites/networks and you just might be surprised with the results.

Only problem is some of those do not even allow links and all of them dont allow anchored links. At least to the best of my knowledge.

Free press release sites are garbage.

The often host ads alongside the releases for revenue purposes - and since these ads are keyword targeted, an ad for your competitor could be placed right alongside your press release.

Pretty poor!

Hence, we worked to develop a very affordable press release service with distribution to actual targeted media!

  I've catalogued over 175+ PR sites across 8 different criteria.
  
  And some of the previous posters are correct...
  
  Many free PR sites have been weeded out for one reason or another. In my experience, if you're going the free PR site route, you need to submit to multiple sites to make up for the traffic you could get from the more inexpensive paid sites.
  
  Also, there are other variables as well...how well the PR site does in Google News, the regular search engines, what other sites they have relationships with, how they handle hyperlinks, images, alexa ranking, and more.

well press release is good but when it comes to press releases I suggest you subscribe on PRWEB.. why? because it will totally fill the gap between your site and most authority site. they will even give you a statistic report.. yes its kinda expensive but worthy to have..

Free press release submission sites go down frequently and are completely unreliable.

It's much better to invest $5 and have your release submitted on Fiverr then to spend the time uploading it to free press release sites.

I think that press-releases are dead, they just create a huge mass of links with copied text among websites with low rating. In my case it doesn't work for conversion at all.
