GVO - reliable website hosting?

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone else is hosting with GVO? I am but everyday I go through periods of time where my sites become inaccessible, a very slow, like I am on a dial up connection and time out. I am wondering if other users of GVO have or are experiencing similar problems....

I am sure my end of things is A OK as I have a ultra fast internet connection and optimized computer and all other sites perform wonderfully for me all over the net.

Any comments or recommendations would be appreciated....

Cheers,
Graham

You on their shared or dedicated? We just transitioned to their dedicated hosting a month ago. The move didn't go very well, lots of stuff was missed by them. Not to mention that email outage a few weeks ago didn't sit well with me either. Right now everything seems to be OK, we're going to monitor the situation but will be quick to pull the trigger and move again if any more problems occur.

Their support, while quick to respond, is thus far quite unimpressive as well.

I am on their shared server. I have been having constant problems the last few weeks and I wonder if I should more. It's a hassle to think about though as I have quite a few sites with them now. Also I bought the Titanium package so there is a bit invested in that financially. Maybe I should see what their refund policy is.... I have also done some research on the net and they don't even feature in any reviews of hosting companies. Makes you wonder eh. I initially thought it would also be great from a mlm point of view too but if the service is not up to par there isn't much point is there. Got to have quality along with a good business plan.

I tried them, though it very poor, For shared I have found hostgator to be the best by far and there live support is excellent!

OP - You didn't mention it, but just asking...did you submit any tickets for these issues? If so, what did support have to say?

I don't mean to pull up an old thread, but I am curious about the OPs question too.

So, really, how does GVO compare with their competitors? ex. Hostgator for one.

    Hi,

Things have improved a lot with GVO over the last year as a new support team was created (that actually know what they're doing and are on top of things). Also, the tools such as the integrated email marketing system make it stand out.

      Thanks for your reply.

Are you a member or customer of their products and services, or both?

I ask, because I could really use some assistance from anyone who is an actual member of GVO. Also, if this person has the Payoneer card issued through the company, that would be even better.

          Ok, cool man.

I'm glad that I got a response from someone. It seems in my research to find other GVO members in forums, etc., I've been coming up empty.

So, before I ask my question, if you think that our conversation would be better through PM, then please let me know.

The main question that I wanted to ask, is how to get the Payoneer card through GVO? And what is more relevant, is what is the best way, within GVO's business model, for me to earn money to fund the card?

btw: I wouldn't mind joining you, with your GVO business, if I know that I can get some support. - It would be much appreciated.

Thanks for posting your experience with the company.

As I am currently an affiliate for them, your information will help me re-consider my approach to promoting their offers.

btw: I was wondering, if you are familiar with Payoneer and their debit card? Because it is mainly for this reason why I joined GVO; to eventually get the card.

I've always wondered the quality of this for hosting. Hosting is such an important factor as downtime kills business. I'm with hostgator and am thrilled.

I also use hyperspin's downtime text notification service so I now exactly when there is an issue.. I'd prefer to be text if my sites arent loading rather than find out when a customer messages me 5 hours later.

Southernstorm, I thoroughly understand your feelings. Technical support was online...ONCE, and a promise to communicate with me thereafter was not kept.
Lots of emails from Joel Therien, though, but none usable because of a frustrating
site setup issue caused by GVO's page freezing midway through the process.
Very frustrating, very irritating. "Support" is something they could work on. A lot.

@ajwebs: I did get a response from a different Tech Support chap, and he was helpful, and, to be fair, he did solve my problem.
Then a day later (now) a new "situation" has developed—a simple sign-up from my front page fails due to a MySQL error, and Tech Support is missing again, so I'm trying to get help from Marketing! I'm not qualified to say that this is the norm or not, since I'm new to this area, but I'm keeping an eye on this sort of thing in future.

GVO is the Best Hosting Company. I have several sites and have their Titanium account. Support is excellent. Best thing is try in the late evening to get best support. Use chat line from your back office whenever chat line is open. I am very happy in using their sevice. They are growing fast with new products and lots of tools for internet marketer so some time support is busy. Place a support ticket and they will contact you. You can also check the status for your support ticket in your account's back office.

I've been using hostgator for years and never had a problem. If you are running huge marketing campaigns and use tracking programs, you might consider a different company as they will not send traffic to your site if you exceed a certain traffic capacity.

      Thanks.
I am not a member and I was thinking about joining because I actually watched a 73:00 webinar where Joel Peterson was using the actual conferencing tool. That was great but after hearing all of this, I won't be using GVO...I'm going to wait on PureLeverage to get a little more established.

I've been with GVO twice now since they started, and ready to leave again. THey've had some serious equipment issues apparently and that can happen to anyone - but support -which used to be amazingly great - is now dreadful. My sites have been up and down like a yo yo for the last couple of weeks and very slow - apparently due to DDOS attacks. But twice I have been on hold for live chat and then watched as MORE people were suddenly ahead of me on the chat line...and then I had to leave a message. Fine except that no one ever responds.

Yesterday - my support ticket tagged 'emergency' took 8 hrs for a response and then it was because I finally used the emergency pager system and the IT person sent it up the food chain to an 'executive'.

I admire Joel tremendously for what he has built - he is about as entrepreneurial as you can get!! But I am really tired of dealing with this side of things. The issue is that we have a lot of sites there and it is going to be pain to move everything.....

Looking at the dates of the posts in this thread among others, seems the issues are pretty consistent. I'd recommend that you look at other providers that specialize in the industry and not a provider that provides 500 different "internet marketing" software suites.

On the site it states: "Their support staff is relentless in offering top notch support period." Post after post over the past 2 years when this thread was opened doesn't really say that.

EDIT: Mel, I believe we may have actually spoke on one of my threads about these very same issues quite some time ago.

Yes, we did - Joel actually contacted me directly after that last posting here and based on his efforts and promises - I decided to give them another shot. Ouch....

But there was one very funny part of this recent episode - ONE of the issues was that my IP was blocked by their firewall for a suspicious script that I was using - it was their own banner code for Pure Leverage.....I actually like the meeting room for simple spur of the moment chats but the rest of it.....

That sounds a bit odd to me. Either way, I'd recommend finding a more stable provider. Let me know if you have any questions. Any web host serious enough would be able to move all of your sites without hesitation.

LOL - yes, I agree that it was totally odd - but I thought it quite laughable that their own tech support sent me the log details showing the 'suspicious' script and it was their own banner code. And from there the excuse went on to being another DDOS attack on the server that we were hosted on.

            Too many excuses......

There are a LOT of odd things with Mr. Therien and his band of cohorts. As a user of his services who joined primarily to explore the "5 Minute Mogul" scheme, I soon discovered that I was being kicked around like a football between FOUR companies' "Support" teams (actually the same lot of buffoons in the back)--GVO - 5 Minute Mogul - PureLeverage - EmpowerNetwork.

Never once was an email to my "sponsor" or to Mr. Therien seeking advice and clarification responded to, but what I did get was a ton of auto-generated emails telling me of the latest "hot" news, upsells, "opportunities", etc., etc., which I wasn't interested in. So GVO is disorganized, totally, and their only function is to get your credit card info for recurring deductions, and not risk communicating with customers in a civilized fashion.

Oh, as somebody else in WF advised me, "If it smells like a scam,..." It has been an altogether EXPENSIVE and UNPLEASANT experience dealing with Joel Therien, Blake McKibben, and the whole mess. Even quitting is quite a challenge! No reason why folks need to do this crap when others are doing well enough with honest schemes, and sharing those schemes with with willing opt-ins without scamming them. STAY FAR, FAR AWAY FROM GVO.

I heard the PL membership is growing rapidly, so it maybe that there Tech equipment and support personnel is not grow on a parallel level.

That is because it requires more investments. Perhaps too much cash flow is going out to pay those attractive affiliate fees.

I have seen this happen many times before with companies that need much more operating capital to keep up with demand... then they fall.

None of my 4 websites were accessible yesterday and neither on August 1, 2013. I cannot even access gogvo dot com, except for only a brief 15 minute span. I have a well ranked traffic exchange on here and as soon as GVO is up and running I will migrate that and possibly 2 other sites to HostGator where I have 3 other PTC sites. I will downsize from a Titanium to a HostThenProfit for $9.95, instead of $44.95 . I'll keep the HostThenProfit for the EasyVideoProducer, Autoresponder and the other tools and the C channel IP address differentiation in my total of 100 sites.
I solve 95% of the technical support problems. I have worked with many brilliant Indian software engineers,Oracle DBAs and systems admins. None of them are at GVO.
They must hire from the Delhi slums which is great for the Delhi slums and I approve of that
but they are probably being paid that way too. I will not belabor all the hideous stupidity
they have made me go through. Let me give you one example: I need to send Admin/Support
emails to all members of my traffic exchange of which there are approximately 1120. So
after repeatedly being told that I need my email limit over 999 for one day they occasionally
stop the emails and say I am spamming. This has not happened lately but it has happened
many times after I have told them why I absolutely need to do this and they have agreed to
    extending the limit.

OP, Thanks for starting this thread.

I almost signed up to transfer over from HostGator. What enticed me about GVO was their autoresponder, but it doesn't look like it's worth the hassle. I've been with HostGator for years with no problems, so I guess I'll stay where I am for right now.

Something else I realized was that I was getting a lot of spam in my Gmail account that was coming from GVO, so I was continually clicking the "report spam" button. I'm just wondering how long it will be before Gmail blocks their IP?

I have switched from Hostgator to GVO hosting and I absolutely prefer Hostgator.

I have had sooo many problems with GVO shared hosting. My sites were down today again and they redirected all my website visitors to their Pureleverage salespage.

In 3 months I have had more problems and websites down with GVO than 3 years of Hostgator.

      In my experience they suck

          Vivien
First of, you have 2 posts, both promoting GVO.

Second, have you not read anything above, they redirect your sites to their own offers, they have a lot of down time, you can't use the autoresponder on your own squeezepages etc etc.

If that's what you like then good for you.

I am the person who donot know any knowledge of internet marketing, eventhough how to setup one website also donot know,
but I can learn from GVO Live Training, I gain alot of knowledge, I like GVO service very much.

You see the 2 bolded lines above.

You have been with GVO for 4 years and don't have any knowledge of internet marketing, not even how to set up a website. So you pay for hosting at GVO but have no websites. Oh god you're funny.

I'm glad to be able to find about GVO , so I can make my own decisions.
I think I'll stay with my current hosting company.
Doesn't seem worth it to me to switch, at least at this time.

I got to know lot of stuff about GVO on this thread. I purchased a Facebook course from them which was basic one and after that they invited me for a seminar last year on web hosting & they tried to sell me web hosting offers as well. I didn't attended the seminar and even i was not interested to because it's not a renowned web hosting company, so obviously there is always a certain risk to try with a new or less known player in a particular field.

I was on their Platinum plan (appx $45 /mo for unlimited everything) from about the time they opened their doors. I never promoted the MLM side of it.

I was totally sold on their depiction of their data center, equipment, and connection speeds. I also liked the concept of unlimited everything. I also really loved their "for marketers BY marketers" attitude. They didn't come down hard on you just for pushing the envelope in your marketing efforts.

Over those 2 years, I created about a dozen sites on my GVO account and I while I never had any complaints, I never really knew just how bad the performance was.

I started getting frustrated, however, when I'd work in WordPress. It would take 15 to 30 seconds every time I saved a post or moved to a different place in the dashboard. My sites didn't seem terribly fast, either. But, again, I didn't really have anything to compare them to.

I also REALLY HATED the fact that, by default, they redirect not-found pages to THEIR sales page, rather than my home page or an error page that still looks like it's part of my site. Not cool.

After hearing other people complain about them, I started looking around and decided to give Kingfish85's hosting a try. It was less money for an impressive looking setup. It's not unlimited and doesn't include the autoresponder, conference room, and other stuff that GVO includes, but I wasn't really using those, anyway.

I've been with Kingfish85's hosting for a bit over 2 months, now, and I'm ECSTATIC. His team was able to transfer ALL my domains from GVO without a hitch and at no additional cost.

My sites are now fast. No more lag when moving around in WP. And, Kingfish85 has been absolutely a dream with technical support. And, he has a similar attitude about marketers. He knows your site is for making money and won't shut you down w/o notice just because you maybe went a bit too far with your marketing (though he'll certainly do what he needs to do to protect his servers if you're running something damaging or too resource-intensive). But, the point is, he'll work with you to get it sorted -- unlike some hosts who just shut you down.

I love how helpful he is on this forum without pimping his service.

So, if you're looking for an alternative to GVO, I give him my highest recommendation.

I don't know why anyone uses GVO. It's a minor player, a newbie host, with a spotty record (mixed reviews) from day one. The worst offense was spamming via email and on forums for months at one point, and several sites banned it. (Legit businesses DO NOT need to spam!) It's not even that good of a deal. It's as bad as EIG.

    There are better hosts.
The above suggestion for Veerotech is a good one.

Tried using their autoresponder. It says the broadcast is in queue, but it's already 20 minutes past it's send time.

Is it working as intended? I watched the Youtube demo so I'm positive I queued the broadcast properly.

Just wanted to give a brief update on my hosting decision.....

Finally, I have made the change and left GVO.....for all the reasons that I, Keith and others have posted about in this thread......if you are happy to pay for hosting with a company that has no qualms in using your websites as redirects to their MLM opportunity landing page.......if and whenever, you have a technical issue with one of your sites...then GVO may be for you...(and given my experience with them...I'd say that this is an almost certainty)

And if you don't mind your website going 'down' on a fairly regular basis and enjoy the randomness of never quite knowing whether it's functional or not...then GV0 would be a perfect choice.....

If, however, you are like the rest of us who just want to pay for hosting and have our websites available 24/7, without too much drama and without having our visitors think we are trying to pull a fast one on them with a 'bait and switch' to an MLM offer, then you'd be wise to look elsewhere.....

Based on Keith's feedback in this thread I have finally opted for Veerotech and so far very I am very pleased with their great support and help in moving my sites over quickly.

Whoever you finally chose to go with, don't underestimate the value in having a reliable service which leaves you free to spend time on the things that matter...i.e. building your business and not trying to fix the foundations all the time.....

One more week with GVO and I will switch to Westhost.

They screwed up big time again and I can't handle this companie any longer

      - my server's php version was not updated and when the latest wordpress update was released my websites did not function for a week! Resulting in loss of sales for a wekk.

      - I did not receive any forwarded emails for more than 2 months due to some hotmail block. But they did not mention this to their customers. So I could not respond to potential offline customers that had contacted me

DON'T GO FOr GVO would be the best slogan

      Neil,

Thank you for the feedback here & I'm glad to hear that you're pleased with our service! The same for you as well Keith.

I have been a GVO customer for a few years. This year I moved most of my sites there for the convenience of having everything in one place. That was really nice. But it was a huge mistake. Right now, 12/31/13, for the second time this month - right in the middle of launching a group on fb that was getting pretty good results - the server is down.... again.

My capture pages and autoresponder are on GVO. People are hammering me because the capture pages are not working. We are using a capture page to build a list and deliver the optin to the fb group to join the group.

Total crap service from GVO on fixing this.

I have seen some responses on other hosting, and I want to look at other services. All I need is hosting for 5 sites and an autoresponder. I also need to consider the rules for the new autoresponder on importing lists. I would like to be able to scale it up as I grow, as well.

I am not a techie, so I will need help moving the sites, etc, and my budget is still in start-up level, not an established cash flow business yet.

I read some good info in this thread, thank you all for posting.

Right now I would tell any newbie to run far and fast from GVO. They say they are fixing it, but based on what I have read here that may be a short-term band-aid to cover a deeper issue, and I have had about all I can take of their crap.

I migrated to HostGator several years back. They moved all of my my domains without incident, so no worries there, mate. Their support is also first rate - and FAST. I bought one of their inexpensive hosting packages, and run 5 domains within it.

When I've needed help, I've gotten it within a few minutes every single time. Their support chat system is simply outstanding, and they appear to be located within the continent. I recommend HG highly (be happy to give you my affiliate link if you want it - pm me). Trust them - they've certainly earned my trust over the years.

I no longer use them. Like you I was not happy with the speed issues. There were also constant interruptions and down times as well. I don't like the interface either. Too complicated compared to other hosting services. There is only one reason to use them as a hosting service and that is if you are trying to make money through their program. Other than that, I would recommend going some place else.
