Looking for Reviews or Suggestions . . . Using Video

I'm looking for reviews or suggestions for the best way to put a video on a WP blog or on a static site. Maybe to explain my question better, I provide videos for customers to use on blogs or websites. I receive the videos in MP4 or FLV file format. What's the easiest and best way to be able to use them on a blog or website?

All suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks - Bob M

  • The easiest way? Upload your videos to youtube or similar sites and paste the embed code into WP. There are also free plugins for this that allow you to display your video anywhere you want, like in your sidebar etc.

The more complicated way would be to host the video on your server (not recommended) or upload it to amazon s3 (recommended) and use flowplayer for displaying and embedding the video on your site.

The first option is straight forward, for the second one you'll find lots of free tutorials online. You choose.

Youtube is the easiest way, but it's a bit unprofessional IMO and if your account gets suspended (which happened to me) you are SOL and have to redo alot of work. If you are open to opening an Amazon S3 account to host the videos, you can use different wordpress plugins to display the video or use flowplayer like someone else suggested.

YouTube is definitely the easiest and used by so many people that it's almost expected now.

If you want to embed your own video player you're likely to need VPS or dedicated hosting - definitely will if it relies on RTMP.

I've just installed JWPlayer on a client's site and it's been quite a learning process. However, they've released a plugin for WordPress that eases the pain a bit.

Still takes a bit of getting used to, though.

    Cheers,

    Martin.
