Any Blue Yeti users............

I want to purchase a good mic for my video course I am creating. Does the BY deliver a good quality sound?

Some of the other mics make you sound like you sitting away from the mike and it picks up every sound around you.

Thanks for the replies.

I've been using my Yeti since last year and LOVE it. No problem with it picking uip other sounds and it ROCKS with Dragon Naturally Speaking. Best money I've ever spent. I'll never go back to headsets again.

      Really, Erik?

I was curious about this device as well, especially when using DNS.

What makes it so much better?

Also, how does it react to DNS?

      Thanks a lot!

    It's awesome!

Clear and clean. I've had a ton of my members ask what mic I was using because the audio on screen captures and MP3s are so good.

With some headsets, depending on the quality, dragon will misinterpret what you say. My Dad found this out first hand when he tried to use Dragon with the included headset. Then he switched to my Yeti and said it hit everything perfectly. You barely need to train Dragon with it, though the more you use it the better it is. The nicest thing, besides the quality and the fact that you don't have any mistakes, is that you can use it all day, whereas with a headset you have to take a break because it can get uncomfortable (though it may just be me). Worth the $70 or so dollars I've seen it for.

Agreed with Cybers about Blue Yeti when using DNS. The software seems to be very accurate, but the best thing about it is that you can leave it on your desk and not be constrained by headset wiring. I also use the Blue Yeti for live BlogTv broadcasts, mainly for the same convenience.

However, as with ANY condenser-type microphone you will pick up unwanted hums and other noises from your surroundings. To me it is virtually unusable as microphone for recording podcasts due to my surroundings.

For example, my office is in the basement and I can hear my furnace, my fridge motor, my pc fan, even the ticking of my clock which is like 10 feet away. I had discussions with bluemic about this, and they have as much confirmed that you need a prepped area when recording.

I normally use a Logitech headset when recording screencasts and that eliminates background noise, but if you are stuck with a Blue Yeti and need to improve your audio recording process you can do like I did and create a make-shift sound booth by cleaning out a closet and lining the walls with some blankets.

But really if you have not bought it yet I would NOT buy ANY type of condenser microphone if you cannot create a sound-proof environment. This issue is discussed quite a bit on Lynda.com for screencasters too and is a common mistake made by new users. You would think a more expensive mic would create better sound, and it does - in controlled environments. Stick to a good quality head-set and you will get the quality you need and be able to record in most normal sound environments.
