I like both of these as well. I was using 1and1 for a while, but I got very frustrated with how they operate (even though you can get better pricing).

Namecheap! I was with Godaddy at first, but was told from some other internet marketer's of how their service wasn't as great, so switched to namecheap and they've been great. Combine that with Hostgator and you got a pretty good set up there...

If you want a cheap domain go for GoDaddy. If you want the best domain.... go for Namecheap. Both are best for domain buying.

I like 1and1.com. Cheap, simple platform to manage your domains, and timely customer service.

    Hope this helps,

I've gotta pipe up that I was attracted to 1and1 as a possible combined registrar and host and have been incredibly disappointed since signing up. Good thing they have a 90-day guarantee.

BTW I am leaving IX Webhosting not for technical reasons but customer service (as in, they suspended all of my sites after pointing out I was over my limit on their "Unlimited Pro" package. Get this, I reduced from 80GB to 19 -- on my way to 15 -- and even though I had submitted an outstanding/unanswered customer service request for a list of the largest remaining files, they let their bot upset my life and then didn't give a damn).

I use namecheap and godaddy. If you're looking for Godaddy coupon codes,

the thread above at namepros.com is just for Godaddy coupon codes. I linked to the last and most recent page of the thread, so just backpeddle through it until you get a code you like if you use Godaddy.

As many have suggested, GoDaddy is also my recommendation - but just for buying the domain - I wouldn't use them for hosting.

For hosting you will want to look for someone else like HostGator.

I dont like Godaddy, reason being they want to do yearly subscriptions just for purchasing domains. I really prefer to pay when i want.

I am with dynadot for a long time already.

    Benefits:

    * CHEAP
    * You can pay with paypal
    * Very fast, only minutes after purchase i can work on the domains
    * Very simple domain pushing and admin, eg. setting nameservers etc.

The worst posts in this thread are those suggesting to have the domain registrar AND the host the same company. They must be inexperienced people who just post without thinking.

Holy crap, GoDaddy appears to be winning.

I use both GoDaddy and NameCheap. Every time I say I use GoDaddy, people come out and say "WHAT?! OMGWTFBBQ why would anyone use GoDaddy?"

Well, gee, never had a problem. That's why. Never had one anywhere else, either. Don't see the big deal. It's not exactly rocket science to provide domain registration services.

I had always thought GoDaddy was perfectly fine for my domain registration but recently heard a horror story from a friend who had paid extra for their WhoIs cloaking. When she wanted to LEAVER GoDaddy, they pointed out to her that the terms require her to submit passport ID -- meaning GoDaddy has all of her contact info, her credit card info, her photo and her passport data (can you say Identity Theft waiting to happen?)

Between that and my suspicion that they participate in domain name front running, I was looking for a new registrar.

Now I've eliminated 1and1 and do appreciate the NameCheap fans speaking up loudly. Let me ask -- have you experienced (suspected) front running with them?

    Thanks,
    Paul

I've always used GoDaddy, but I just tried NameCheap because I see good reviews here. I had the absolute worst experience with them that I've ever had with any company online. It was a nightmare!

I bought a domain on Thursday at NameCheap, set it up on my hosting, and just put up a quick index page. When I checked it on Friday the domain didn't exist.

I tried to sign into my new account at NameCheap -- keep in mind that they hadn't contacted me at all to tell me that there was a problem -- and I got this message:

"Your account has been temporarily locked due to suspected fraud a chargeback or some similar violation of our terms of service. In order to verify your account and or purchase, please submit a ticket to following link and select the "fraud control" option:
hxxps://support.namecheap[dot]com/index.php?/Tickets/Submit. After submitting your ticket you will be asked to submit to a fraud verification process. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you as we do our very best to limit and false positives in these situations."

That's fine, I understand companies have to protect themselves from fraud, I just wish they had emailed me. So I did what they said and submitted a ticket....AND NEVER HEARD FROM THEM.

So I tried to sign in to their support system to check on my ticket and couldn't do it.

They say they have 24/7 support so I initiated a chat. The nice lady on the chat said that they fraud team wouldn't be in for 6 hours, which would have put it way after midnight east coast time, where I am. She said they'd contact me.

I woke up this morning to nothing. No email and still no way to check on my ticket since they wouldn't let me log in to their support system. My email is already taken (by ME) and they say my password is wrong but give me no way to get a new password or fix the problem.

So i submit another ticket, which they don't reply to.

So i initiate another chat and now they want a color image of the front and back of my credit card on a pdf submitted through their support system....which has yet to provide me with any feedback whatsoever.

I asked to speak to a supervisor but she won't be in until Monday.

While on the chat I went and bought my domain through GoDaddy. It's up and online right now.

    Screw NameCheap.

The total lack of communication from them is what cost them my business. I really wanted an alternative to GoDaddy but I need to know that a company with which I'm doing business will contact me when there is a problem and respond to my communications. NameCheap failed these simple requirements.

  • GoDaddy overcharges for Privacy Protection. I use both NameCheap and GoDaddy and have not encountered problems with either from a technical standpoint. I've found both of their tech support departments to be very helpful, prompt, and dare I say courteous.

I despise the trickery GoDaddy uses to milk every last penny out of the unknowledgeable.

ALSO... NEVER pay full price at GoDaddy. Just do a quick search for 'godaddy coupon code'. Always find one in about 30 seconds and save 3 or 4 dollars per new domain or renewal.

Namecheap is easier to deal with really and they don't try to sell you $100 worth of needless options before you check out. Plus you get free Whoisguard with your purchase. But once you get used to GoDaddy, especially with the coupons available that saves you a few bucks for each domain, you won't care about Namecheap or anyone else. If you only need 1 domain, however, I would recommend Namecheap.
