We are enjoying a cold war between facebook and Google +. Google is launching Google+ and Facebook is also bringing some surprise next week.

So what do you think ? Facebook or Google +, Which one will be prominent for social media marketing ?

I think it will always be Google. If you check the GoogleLabs, you'll see so much experiments that are lining up. Also, you are more after ranking in Google SERP so I guess, you need to ask anymore.

Google has a long way to go to catch up to Facebook. People are not just going to jump ship because Google has a social network. They are really going to need to offer something different and unique to get people to leave Facebook behind.

Also, without the ability to import everything from Facebook (pictures, etc), people are going to be really hesitant to leave Facebook.

I really do not see Google+ making any serious dent in the Facebook market in the first 1-2 years.

I'd say google +1 will bring more value to web businesses as web users still use google to find out about anything and everything on the internet.. I want to know something I google it, especially before I will sign-up for a service, purchase anything online. So having a good number of +'s on google next to your web URL is definitely the best rating for your online business.

Facebook is where we all hang out and definitely has great impact/influence on your online business. But my vote is for google +1

Well they say HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF so let's hop in my Time Machine, press a few buttons and well what do you know, where are we?

    A little place called Myspace!

Remember how many people were on Myspace back then that is really where a lot of us internet marketers cut our teeth at.

Now Myspace is the place I would go too if I ever needed some time too myself without being bothered!

Don't get me wrong Facebook is still and very well could be a very formidable opponent to Google in general but with Justin Timberlake buying a portion of Myspace and trying to rebrand it by apparently making it more of a place to go for Music and Entertainment networking (I have long wondered why Facebook has been very reluctant to give more attention to that niche at least more than what they since their increase in popularity) along with the potential for Myspace to team up with Google+ in some way shape or form in order for them to help increase both sites popularity.

I would also imagine Google has had to do their homework before trying to launch Google+ but I could already see how it could be much more convenient in the long run too join Google+ they could have features such as:

Not having to sign in to the Social Network, it could very easily be like how it is with Youtube where if you stay signed in to your Gmail account and head over to Youtube and you have account there then you are already logged in. This could easily be done with their Social Network as well.

Special advertising deals where you could both advertise on Google search results as well as Google +

They could change their algorithm to rank Google + sites higher than Facebook pages

I mean the possibilities are endless with how to they could take advantage of being the BEST search engine as well as the fact that they own the most popular video sharing site as well.

However, if they are able to Capitalize on all of their strengths it will most likely take several years before they get the upper hand on Facebook when it comes to social networking and Facebook is obviously making some changes themselves to help protect themselves against Google by try to add their Facebook email etc.

      All things go in phases.

Many marketers think the Facebook craze is just a phase and it will die off when people get tired of it and go onto the next big phase.

Who knows it might just be Google +

Facebook dominates the social media scene and Google +1 is a sophomore . It will require lots of marketing, interesting features to leave behind Facebook. Only time will tell which is going to be more popular but for coming few years FB is going to be there..

Google is known for their quality traffic and i believe people that hanging out in Google+ is a serious one rather than on Facebook. However Facebook has lots volume of traffic.

In my opinion, you should do both, as long as it bring you quality traffic.

Google is the MAN! I am not sure if you guys saw it in the news or not, but GM pulled his investment out of facebook adds, meaning GM is no longer doing Facebook adds, now should tell you something, mind you aside from the fact that GM in general is loosing sales compared to 50 years ago, yet thats something to think about....

    my 2 cents

    cheers

Google is becoming a scary company, and it will be the #1 Silicon company in the next 5 years in my opinion, over Apple and Microsoft. It's amazing how an advertising company can look so much like a technology company, that fascinates me.

Right now though, FB is the king of social media and that's where you should put your efforts for social, at least you should cover that ground first. In terms of advertising, for some markets FB works much better than Google PPC. Maybe for GM, Facebook didn't work well, that doesn't mean FB ads don't work.

For one google builds things because they think that there is money in and that it will increase their advertising dollars. They couldn't buy facebook so they choose to create their own facebook. Facebook on the other hand was originally started as a fun project that had a very serious outcome. Facebook builds things because they see the need for those things in the community which they have built. Google + Is confusing to use for the average user where Facebook is just right. Facebook's IPO Offer may have some negative effect on the image of Facebook but I believe that Facebook will ultimately win the cheese. Who knows Facebook may even be in a position to take over google. Now there is a thought to nibble on.
