Would I Benefit From a Mac?

I am thinking of getting a mac. I do have a few questions though.

  • When making video courses, will it be hard for people using windows or linux to follow along?
  • I really want to create sexy ebook layouts instead of just plain text. Kind of like this?

Does anybody know how to do this?

  • Are there any pieces of software specific to internet marketing that would be of particular use to me?
  • Is parallels good software to use for running windows applications? Is it JUST a virtual system or is it more?
  • Does GarageBand come free with every mac?
  • Is there a sizable amount of open source software that's available for the mac?

Having a mac for Internet marketing solely would be hell, due to compatibility issues. But that being said I have been a windows person my entire lift, but mac's hardware is simply amazing although i hate the OS.

So 2 weeks ago i bought a Macbook Pro 15" I7 2.2ghz computer, and with every mac comes a program called Bootcamp, so i went and bought a windows 7 installation disc and installed windows on my mac. (takes no technical knowledge what-so-ever)

Everything works perfectly you get the backlighting and you get all the mac function keys along with the f1-f12 keys that windows uses, So i have not once used my mac OS, because windows runs flawlessly. You also get the insane speeds that the new macbook pro's with i7 processors get, i have maxed out my computer usage at 20% with several programs open and running.

The only problem with the switch over, is Mac computers dont have a print screen button, which windows uses to take screenshots, so you have to use the on-screen keyboard to take screen shots.

*Edit* Parallels sucks ass, and has sooo many flaws.

      Hi Liam,

I did a quick survey on here about a year ago and the numbers even on WF came out at about 80% PC, 20% Apple.

I look with some lust at the simple things like Presenter and some of the other ways that the Apple kit works, but I still get cold feet when the price swings into view.....

I'm sure it'll happen at some point (after the first big money-maker!) but for now, I'm staying with the PC and the bigger audience.

Nope... command + shift + 4 Oh, by the way you can crop the screen shot in real time.

I love my macbook (just bought in Feb), I don't miss windows for anything except some windows only IM tools. Just install windows 7 using bootcamp and you'll be all set.

Also, GarageBand does come free on all macs as well as iMovie which will help you out.

As far as ebooks, for covers, I use Photoshop and the CoverActionPro plugins. For interior, I use inDesign.

But you could go to Elance, Odesk or Fiverr and have someone create a page backround for you to use for around $5 to $10 bucks.

I personally use Mac and only Mac. I can't stand using Window's based computers, but if you're use to it, it's all just pure preference.

you are going to get mixed feelings .

You have your Mac purists who hate all Microsoft related items even though many apps run by Apple are based on MS tech. I'm sure I will get torn a new one for that but hey .

Anyway its a personal preference. If you have the budget to buy the higher priced Mac go for it But remember many marketers run windows on their macs because it is pretty much more compatible across many different platforms. And Apple does not support adobe flash apps.

If you are on a budget just get yourself an upgrade to your existing PC or a new laptop.

Do some research around the net and see which will better suit your needs. Agai you will get strong opinions from both sides.

      Good luck whichever you get.

I hate Apple AND I hate Microsoft. I'm just trying to figure out which one I hate more. Having a mac may be more convenient for me and for some reason I feel that I'll be able to create more professional(sexier too) products using it. This is partially due to several top marketers I know of that use macs, namely Brad Gosse and Ed Dale.

Macs are totally silent and look good, something that's hard to be guaranteed with a windows machine. That's what first swung it for me, plus the added security what with no viruses.

I have been using Macs to run my business for over 2 years now, and I haven't needed or wanted to use windows once.
