Hosting advice - Hostgator?

I would like to get some hosting in the US (although I'm UK-based) for some niche sites.

The sites 10-20 will all be WordPress and won't receive huge amounts of traffic nor need great amounts of disc space.

Obviously I'd like the sites to be as fast as possible.

I'm thinking Hostgator because I've consistently heard great things about them.

Should I go for Baby Plan, Business Plan, Reseller or VPS?

Just wonder if anyone has any advice on this one?

I use HostGator for my websites that drive traffic to my main sites hosted on Media Temple.
They are good for putting up websites that do not get a ton of traffic. When they start getting to much traffic, you can copy the database and move it over to a more robust host.

I think these days many of the big hosts will all fit the bill for what you need. With 10-20 sites, it will be more managable with the reseller. Other hosts to consider would be Hostdime, Site5 or Arvixe.

Yeah go for Hostgator. It's a reliable server and it's cheap. Another plus is that it has 24 hours customer support. You can either call or chat and they're pretty good at what they do. Just go for the baby plan so you can register as many domains as you like.

Host Gator is a pretty good hosting company
and most people around here will tell you the same

I would just start with the Baby Plan
and then when you out grow the baby plan move up...

but the hosting company I perfer is Arvixe

If they are low traffic sites go the the Baby Plan. You can upgrade the package when your needs are higher. If your not sure contact hostgator and ask for there recommendation.

    Hostgator is probably the best.

I have made an amazing achievement from switching to them. I used to use Go daddy and their support just sucks.

They tend to spend more time on finding women to advertise their offers than offer any decent support.

    Hostgator gets +100

I used to be a customer of HostGator. That was almost two years ago however.
That said, I got nothing negative to say about them.

Now I use Bluehost. It has been great so far.

I use both and both are perfectly good.

Hostgator you pay monthly and Bluehost is yearly so if you are tight on cashflow host gator may fit the bill better

Another "Thumps Up" for Hostgator from me. Their customer service is superb - it is an all-round great company. The Baby Plan should be sufficient to get you started.

At the time i have more than 20 sites on Hostgator and i am very satsified with their service. When i started out, i purchased their "Baby Plan package".I think that this package is value for money, since you can build inlimited websites and host them there.

    Cheers

Ps They also have a very good customer support.

I prefer VPS, for reseller options, but also, so I don't have other people on a server that might crash my stuff. Well, less chance of it.

Host Gator is not perfect, but they have been the best host I've used in over 13 years online.

Hostgator is my favorite. With 10 - 20 sites I'd get the reseller. No need for VPS if you don't have a lot of traffic or need a lot of diskspace. Talk to their chat about your expected requirements. They are pretty good.

I say if you are going to go with HostGator the Baby plan will suit you well. If you are planning on selling a lot of your websites consider going with a reseller plan because it will be much easier to get the website to the buyer having a separate cPanel account for each domain.

I agree micksss Hostgator is a great choice. I host all of my websites on their servers. The customer support is fantastic, not to mention my websites have almost zero down time. if reselling websites isn't the priority then just like you I suggest the baby plan as well and to upgrade when needed.

I've migrated all my customers websites to HostGator. They have most excellent service and offer so many free goodies. For example they will, for free, transfer any website on their servers for free. Chat support is 99% of the time helpful and creative. I got an email from one of their techs last week letting me know I should upgrade my dedicated server to a machine thats twice better. Cost: nothing.

I whole wholeheartedly recommend them. If you're not sure how much you should invest with them try the reseller or the VPN.

Yes, I would go with Hostgator. The server reliability is good and it's cost effective. The 24 hour customer support is an added bonus and they are usually pretty quick to respond. The support desk consultants seem pretty knowledgable. The Baby Plan is the best place to start...you can always upgrade is your business develops and grows.

Never liked HG, they're too big and patronizing. Help yourself to the Warrior special offers forum and ask Joe Veloz what he thinks of HG right now.

I've bounced around hosts for the past few years but I use Site5 now for UNIX and Arvixe for Windows, could not be happier with them. The Site5 "costlier" shared host package gives you twice as much daily bandwidth as HG "enterprise" plan and about 4 times more hourly outbound emails. Then if you need to switch to a VPS then the transition is seamless, I've never seen such a smooth transition from shared to VPS.

I know many are like, "In The Gator We Trust", type thing and that's fine, they have deep pockets to advertise and pay heavy commissions for affiliates for shared hosting plans. It's like the McDonald's effect... You go to a McD's restaurant and say you'll never go back because they gave you stale pop, they're just gonna laugh and move on, Ray's Snack Bar down the road will likely give you a free pop and will remember your name next time you go.

    Just my 2 cents...

    Hi,

Awhile back, Richard Madison here on WF offered his hosting...its called
Hostdeal Cloudflare Hosting...it's closed now but if you search using his
name, his WSO comes up 2nd...you may want to check it out...

    Currently, his business hosting...everything unlimited...is 3.95 mo.

I've been using them since last Nov when I picked up their unlimited Business
    pac...
Sites are up 99.9%, offers everything all the big names do (Hostgator included w/o the er10.per mo fee)...And most importantly, I've never had any issues...

Anytime I need anything, customer service is great...

I look at it this way...I don't care how many bells-and-whistles these hosting
companies have, or their hot-dog prices...
If over the long haul, they don't live up to uptime claims and service claims and functionality claims, their not worth my business...
I'd rather pay more for everything I want than any and all business frustrations
that can come with sub-par hosting deals...

And I've had many different hosting companies over the yrs...and I've learned
thru trial-and-error "money-saving big deals" aren't necessarily that!

Listen, I'm not an affiliate with this company (but after writing this up, maybe I
should consider...I see alot of others pushing everything under the sun for $$. )

I just seen your post and empathized...wanting some helpful advice on your issues...

Anyways, for all you get with Hostdeal...uptime, reliability, customer service...and
    quality hosting...I'd pick them...for 5 or 500 sites...

    Just my 2 cents...
